This is amazing. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SILVER-CROSS-BALMORAL-COACHBUILT-PRAM-GREAT-CONDITION-ROMANY-/220963045973?pt=UK_Baby_BabyTravel_Pushchairs_GL&hash=item33726c8255#ht_1386wt_1270

There is a part of me that wants it, just to see the reaction from people. The black ribbons on the bedclothes do remind me of coffins/hearses though. And I live nowhere near Skegness. And I don't have a spare £500 knocking about.

Not keen on the bedding, but the pram was pretty normal when I was little! Have fond memories of dsis and me, one each end being taken to/from nursery.

Nothing remotely Romany then!

Bearcrumble · 02/03/2012 16:38

With the Chanel Cs painted on - normal?

If it didn't have the Chanel logo on it it would be a beautiful comfortable pran for baby and toddler.

blushingcrow · 02/03/2012 16:44

My mum used to push us all about in a pram like that back in the day.

passmeanotherpineapple · 03/03/2012 09:03

How would it fit in a caravan??!!

bagelmonkey · 03/03/2012 09:10

Maybe you get a dartmoor pony to pull it along behind your caravan?

planetpotty · 03/03/2012 09:23

I used to live in the NE with work and in Darlington every second buggy was one of these. I was the odd one out with a travel system Blush

Not my taste but I don't think there ugly I just think my buggy was easier to manoeuvre and sling in the boot.

stressheaderic · 04/03/2012 14:04

Those frilly 'prams sets' are a rite of passage where I live, every one has them. The new thing seems to be to get child's name embroidered ont he top fold-over flap.

Also popular in my area are white leatherette prams with wicker carrycot. I see far too many of them.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 04/03/2012 14:07

Loads of people have those frilly pram sets here. Usually accompanied by a gold hanging dummy or teddy.

Bearcrumble · 04/03/2012 14:51

The North really is another country. You never, ever see an old coach-built pram in normal bits of London. I may have seen a couple up in Green Park/other big parks in the centre of town being pushed by very posh nannies.

I had a coach built for dd. it was the best £15 at a boot sale purchase I have EVER made. She spent her first two years lounging around in it. She was never scrunched up in a travel system, or exposed to the weather in a buggy. She was snug and comfy and airy. I've still got it in the loft for my next my grand babies. However, that one appears to have been pimped, and is fairly horrible!

Tiggywunkle · 18/03/2012 20:39

Thanks for alienating the entire north of England Bearcrumble. I like the way there are 'normal bits of London' too.......

Where exactly do you live?

codandchipstwice · 19/03/2012 13:11

And, ahem I live in a normal part of London, and my mum is in a v v normal (ie expensive - next to Richmond Park) bit of London and we do see coach built prams often - in fact our local babyshop sells Silver Cross coach built prams for a small fortune. Plenty of emmaljunga (think that's what you means 1944girl) here too - as well as what I assume is a Polish made called xlander which is also popular

Safmellow · 19/03/2012 18:49

I live in the 'abnormal' north Grin. I have seen a few of these around - am always astounded by the sheer size of the wheels. They seem to appeal to younger mums mostly.

It's a bit of a backwater here without any major pram/pushchair stockists, I have been known to stalk people show extreme interest when I see something out of the ordinary. Nearly passed out when I saw my first BJCM in Tesco last year and bombarded the poor lady with questions :)

homeaway · 20/03/2012 16:47

I bought one second hand for my second dc , I paid around twenty quid for it and it was great. Baby went in there, toddler sat on the edge and off we went. Great for walking to the shops etc but not ideal for the car. I got a pushchair for going into town and all the dc fought over the kiddy board :). I have kept the big pram but not sure if any grand kids will use it....

Pootles2010 · 20/03/2012 16:49

Good lord, there are different bits to 'the north' you know! I've never seen one like that!

tethersend · 20/03/2012 17:00

"You never, ever see an old coach-built pram in normal bits of London."

I've got a vintage one and will be cracking it out in Victoria park around May time Wink

lizandlulu · 20/03/2012 19:02
