I need a teensy weeny pushchair for a 3 month old

Even after insisting i would only ever be a one pushchair family and finding The One that will last til my LO goes to nursery, I am in a pickle.

We are going on a lovely caravan holiday, in a month, and she's just too heavy for me or DH to 'Sling' it everywhere. Trouble is I have a tiny old Micra, and our current pushchair (Maclaren XLR) fits fine, in the boot, but leave no room for anything else. I need luggage to fit too.

Is there anything out there that folds super tiny? I know of the work of Quinny, and that would be ideal, but I think unsuitable for under 6m as it doesnt recline. Am I asking the impossible?

Whatever I do get, it will have to be a Gumtree jobbie, as I cannot spend the cost of a brand new buggy for what is essentially, a week away.

can't you fit the buggy across the back footwells?

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 28/02/2012 22:12

Get / borrow a roof box for your car?

purpleroses · 28/02/2012 22:13

Go for a fully reclining stroller. Not sure which brand, but they're by far the smallest folded up and as long as they recline fully would be OK for 3m as long as you wrap her up warm if it's cold.

get a better sling/carrier.
I still use the ergo with my heavy 2y old without probs.

Iggly · 28/02/2012 22:15

Get a better sling? Do you have a baby bjorn by any chance? Not great for heavy babies IMO (I gave up after 4 months). An ergo or manduca are very good.

Car seat only fits in the front, as my car is so old that the back seatbelts are roughly half the length of standard ones. (No airbag in the front passenger seat)

Therefore DH goes in the back. Could put the stroller on top of him, I suppose Grin OR pile all the luggage in the back with him.

Purple, I have a fully reclining stroller, which is the one mentioned in the OP. May have to have a play this weekend with what I imagine ill be taking, see if I can wedge it all in.

No bars on the top of the car, unfortunatley, so would be a very costly expense to add them (not planning on keeping the car past another 6mo)

Yes, its a Bjorn style one (Mothercare own brand I think)

Will have a loo at the slings mentioned here, thanks

My friend had a petite star zia which reclined and folded compactly. Can't link as on my phone-sorry!

How much does your dc weigh? I sling my 21lb 15 month old and he is just that bit too heavy now. Search mei tai

Where are you going on holiday? Can you rent a pushchair when you get there? We did that one year.

Grumpla · 28/02/2012 22:22

Another recommendation that you get a better sling! A mei tei , or a soft structured carrier (SSC) like an ergo, beco etc would see you well into toddlerhood comfortably. Baby Bjorn types are basically useless past the first couple of months and as well as wrecking your back / shoulders also don't hold your baby in a particularly healthy position.

Having said that, if you really want a buggy i have an old style Zapp and although it doesn't recline at all you can get adapters to fit the maxi-cosi carseat onto the frame.

I think there is a new Zapp where the seat can be parent facing - not sure if that now has a recline too?

But a decent sling would be cheaper than a new buggy (and IMO much snugglier and more fun Smile )

I think ill take DD out more in her sling, see if it improves for me and her. She seems like a bit of a nosy parker, though, and I dont think she particularly enjoys not having much to look at except my top. Would definetly rather buy a better sling than a second pushchair.

I still carry DS (21lb 16mo) in my close parent sling for long trips. Climbed all over mid Wales with him in there not that long ago :) Look for another sling Wink
otoh have you looked at petite star zia? Ours sits behind the driver's seat in the footwell of the rear passenger seat (so only obstructing one side of the back seat) when folded up if you take the wheels off it's even smaller

woollyideas · 28/02/2012 22:29

If you have an old micra you can usually put half the back seat down*, so DH can sit in the back and the 'boot' is effectively extended alongside him.

Yawner247 · 28/02/2012 22:29

I second the petite star zia....it's our holiday/trip to town pushchair! Fab lil buggy reclines fully and has a five point harness with padding and with the cosy toes super snuggly...wouldn't recommend the parasol though it's a bit crap...better off with the sun sheet thingies over the whole pushchair! scummymummy · 28/02/2012 22:31

I think I'd make dh be uncomfortable in the back with the maclaren wedged under his feet or something! I'm mean though.

SecondTimeLucky · 28/02/2012 22:31

Yes, definitely buy a better sling. My DD2 is fairly petite, but nearly 9 months and I could happily carry her in my Didymos slings for hours. We went away recently and the only reason we packed the buggy was so DD1 could ride the buggy board on longer walks. Should have just taken two slings and not bothered...

TruthSweet · 05/03/2012 19:48

Def. get a better sling - I have carried my then 17kg, 105cm just shy of 4y DD2 in a ring sling in a hip carry pretty easily (she had arthritis at the time and needed a lift home!) and I used to carry my then 10kg 18-22m DD3 in a wrap sling in a front carry very easily.

I am a weakling by the way and have a bit of a dodgy back and weak hips so it's not because I am strong!

I did have a MC Baby Bjorn style carrier and nearly crippled myself carrying DD1 in it for 10 minutes looking round a house when DD1 was about 5m (and teeny tiny at about 14lbs or so) so it's definitely the sling and not the weight that makes carrying a baby/child easier.
