Is an oyster what I need?!

So I had a quinny buzz & sold it as I didn't like it. Although i loved the carrycot by the time i'd got onto the pushchair big it just started to bug me as was too wide, difficult to push, slippy wheels & generally annoyed me...
I've been lookkg for my next purchase, picked the oyster as it's narrower still takes my car seat, folded on one piece, looks good & I think I like pushing it (only tried with dd 6minths in shop)........ bought it on the mothercare price match in black with car seat clips but arghhh it's on 4week delivery!!!!!
Sorry my question really is it worth the wait, baring in mind I have no pushchair at the mo! Or should I cancel & buy something else??

Would you not find another place with it in stock who can price match? It says they're in stock here and they'll pricematch. They're a also a very good retailer. :) I think the Oyster is a very good buy. I'd recommend buying the air wheels for around £25.

The Oyster is a really good all round pushchair. It seems to work really well all round...there's a lot of features packed into a reasonably priced pushchair. I think it's worth getting, but as Hypatia suggests, I would phone around and try to find one in stock.

I too fancied the oyster but I had a good look at one today in a shop. I was totally impressed with everything until I saw how you have to fold it. I couldn't believe that you have to align the seat with the chassis- get it wrong and things break apparently. Then the folding itself looked tortuous and once folded it was definitely not compact and not light. Although its very nice to push I can't help feeling that it's a pram for those who never intend to fold it up and out in the boot of a car.

Boggler, I'm really quite confused about what you mean. The Oyster isn't difficult to fold, you just have to fold the seat back down as with loads of pushchairs. It's simple, you can't get it wrong except moving the bumper to get it closed properly. And I really don't see what could break on it. You must have had a terrible salesperson showing you if it seemed complicated.

Tiggywunkle · 25/02/2012 23:18

I agree. It's not hard to fold. Simply fold the seat down, press the fold buttons and down it goes. I don't have my bumper bar on which maybe makes it easier. The fold is long when folded with the seat parent facing, but short and chunkier when outward facing. It's easy enough to scoop up and put into a car.

griphook · 26/02/2012 21:57

the fold is the only good thing about it. Please have another look at it before you buy it as when you have the seat unit on the seat is really shallow and the child just sort of slips about in the seat as there is no support, and because when it's in the upright angle it's not upright enough the baby just ends up trying to sit forward more and they look really uncomfortable in the seat, and they end up slumping to the side.

I had trouble with stock as well, try Oxford pram centre (online) great service

Sorry delayed reply..... I'm swung by mothercares 2 year guarantee, so I'm going to stick it out & wait, will have arms of steel after a month of baby carrying!!! However it will give me time to decide on which colour pack to get & find a fab footmuff (any recommendations?) to match Wink
I'm also baffled about the folding, it's one the reason we like it, was really easy & pretty small too..... I agree sounds like a bad salesperson.

My sister has grape with a pink and purple hear Pupabag which looks good and seems to sit well. Have you got a sling to keep you going? I'd get a wrap sling if you don't have one, seen as you'll be using it a lot for the next month.

I've been looking at the Oyster too, does anyone know which car seats fit it? Suitable from birth, can't decide whether I need a carrycot or not.

HypatiaTheProcrastinator · 28/02/2012 20:16

Possible carseats are: Britax Baby Safe and Sleeper (carrycot style carseat), Oyster ownbrand, Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix and Pebble, Cybex Aton, Nuna Pipa and BeSafe Izi Sleep (lie flat or normal style carseat) and Izi Go.

You shouldn't use a carseat for more than two hours at a time, except lie flat carseats. The seat unit is suitable from 3 months so it's not long to cope without a carrycot. You could always buy a second hand carrycot and get a new mattress.

StrawberryMojito · 28/02/2012 20:32

Have been using the Oyster for past 5 months. I use it with the Maxi Cosi car seat which you need a set of adaptors for. I bought the oyster from www.babybabyonline.co.uk (they have £15 off at the moment) and the adaptors from Amazon.

I think it is ok but it has very little storage space under the seat and I had to use WD40 on the joints as it wouldn't fold down at first. I also had a problem with the wheel release button which is situated in front of where your feet are positioned...I found that unless I had the handle fully extended, I would walk too close to the chassis and kick the wheel release button and yes...a wheel detached whilst I was walking along. Not a problem if you fully extend the handle bar and walk a bit further away. On the whole though, once I ironed out these issues, I have found it easy to use and reasonably light weight.

campbelly · 28/02/2012 20:36

hypatia Are you sure about the Britax sleeper? I wanted to get this with an oyster, and 2 different shops (kiddicare and mothercare) told me it wasn't compatible, which made me sad!
I'd love it if they're wrong...

HypatiaTheProcrastinator · 28/02/2012 21:35

Well it has the same connectors as the normal Britax carseat and a retailer mentioned using one in passing. You could try one on the chassis to double check. It might just be because it hasn't been tested on the Oyster.
