Stupid question about bumping prams on stairs

I feel a bit daft asking this, I'm sure it's a really obvious answer! I've never bumped my pram up or down steps, is there a knack to it, or is it literally just roll off the edge of the step onto the next one? I've got an oyster, and an obaby stroller, I'm guessing it would only work with the stroller! Also, how many steps is it ok to do this on, eg we live in a second floor flat, stairs aren't steep but I assume this wouldn't be recommended on so many stairs?

Don't worry, it's not a daft question if you've never done it before! There is a knack to it, as well as to going up/down escalators. You need to go down/up on the back wheels, with the front wheels tilted up and clear of any steps. A few practice runs with an empty buggy, and you should be confident enough to do it with baby.

If you are out and about, there is usually someone friendly and helpful around to help you with the steps, and if no one offers, don't be afraid to ask! When doing this, always make sure you go at the handle end of the buggy, and go up with the handle side first, or down with the handle side last otherwise your baby will tilt at a horrible angle (learned from experience when my baby slid in a heap to the bottom of his carricot!!).

I have both an Oyster and a Maclaren stroller and I actually find it easier bumping with the Oyster as the wheels are bigger and have better suspension, but in saying this the stroller is lighter so a bit easier in that respect.

You mention you live on the second floor - are you able to leave your buggy downstairs, or perhaps in the car if you have one? This way you avoid having to bump up and down each time you go out.

Thankyou mrsd I think I do need to have a try with the pram empty first. It usually lives in the boot of the car, but would be nice to take it upstairs occasionally eg if it's raining so DS doesn't get soaked when I carry him from the car!

I struggle with this too, and have come to the conclusion that I need to be taller and stronger. I'm 5 foot nothing, very petite, and just can't do it! Going down especially, once I've bumped down one step I can't safely reach the handles to bump down the next one without falling on top of it! Maybe I'm doing it wrong. Confused

I usually take the baby out, lie her on her blanket in the hall, then go back for the pram.
