M&P Sola, iCandy Cherry, or Babystyle Oyster?

First off, I know people have posed similar comparison questions before, and I have read and digested those threads, so this is really just trawling new wisdom and any advice you can all offer which is particular to what we need. I am 25 weeks with DC1 and really quite clueless.

The shortlist of three has come about because they tick all our boxes, which are:

  • Carrycot option for tinies (I know you can get away without this on some - pushchairs, but we really want a proper carrycot at first)
  • Not massive, but reasonably solid
  • Reversible seat
  • The option of using the chassis with a carseat, though I do think this would just be used for pretty rare swift errands.

We will mostly be using it around a pretty congested town, though might also want to do some longer walks on pavements and would hope to tackle outdoor walks on paths (think National Trust garden stroll rather than fell running). We're unlikely to be on public transport much, more likely to take it on trains than buses.

We were impressed by Which reviews of the Sola, but haven't been able to see it in the flesh yet. The only place we could get it, other than online, is about an hour's drive away. This in itself is a downside, because I worry about the inconvenience of either of those options if we have a problem with it. Our local Mothercare stock the Oyster, and we could get the iCandy from John Lewis with a 3 year guarantee.

The price difference between these isn't really material, though if two are equally good I wouldn't say no to some savings. We aren't really interested in any kind of pram kudos, and I think all of these look good enough for our requirements.

I'd definitey rate longevity and quality pretty highly -- we'd really like not to buy another pushchair for a good while. With that in mind, I'm probably most wary of the Oyster, having read lots of reviews of all three.

Any thoughts? I'd be really grateful for any views!

Ooh what on earth could need deleting on a thread like this? Blatant adverts maybe??!!
Will you update on colour choice please?! Which Oyster did you go for? I didn't like the material on the plush...

VeronicaSpeedwell · 15/03/2012 15:44

Ooh sorry, I've been a bit busy since last post. I liked your colour shortlist though Soozy, we have similar taste! We did also really like the Sand colour we saw in Mothercare but not enough to pay an extra £70 for it. We haven't ordered yet, we were too exhausted by the decision making Blush. I haven't seen the Plush, so not really considering that, but we're going for the brushed silver chassis. Red Tomato is definitely a contender. I like the electric blue too, but am not sure if some people would think it was a boys' colour (I don't give a monkeys, but wondered). I also suprised myself by liking the Claret, but now wonder if reminds me a bit of a school uniform I saw around a lot as a child. I could really do without so much choice Confused! I don't think we'll bother with a colour pack for the carrycot though, since it already has a hood and apron.

Hello VeronicaSpeedwell and co.
I was reading this as I'm trying to make the same decision over the buggy as you did a few months ago and I wondered how you'd got on with the Babystyle Oyster after all? Were you happy with your decision? How is it holding up and is it any good off road? I'm choosing between the Babystyle Oyster (but have seen some criticism that it doesn't last) and the Uppababy Vista (I can only find glowing reviews but it's more than double the price) and am trying to decide if it's better to just spend the money upfront of the Uppababy or if the Oyster will do the job.
I love the look of the Oyster and it seemed very agile in the shop but don't fancy having wheels falling off!
Hope everything is going well, and would love to hear your thoughts if you can spare a couple of minutes.
Thanks so much.

So glad I found this thread, due in December and really beginning to think about which system I need. This is so useful. Kind of had my heart set on an icandy peard each or cherry but have also heard good things about the Oyster and Vista.
I think what will swing it for me is which model is best for negotiating buses. Any thoughts welcomed and apologies if its been mentioned before.

Does anyone have any views on the Oyster standard vs the Oyster plush please

Tiggywunkle · 14/08/2012 15:11

2blessed I think any of your four choices would be fine on a bus. But the Oyster is narrow and is a one piece fold if you had to fold it. The Vista is a one piece fold but large to carry onto a bus. But I don't like the seating position of the child in the Oyster. The Mutsy Evo is similar in a lot of ways to the Oyster and folds in one piece too but it has better seating position - but it's wider. Even though it's two pieces the cherry can be carried in one hand (baby under the other arm). The Peach can be folded one handed, the chassis slung over a shoulder, seat in one hand and baby in the other. The Peach is my favourite :)
