Quinny Zapp help!

I have an iCandy apple for my 6 month old. It's great and suits our very rural area (no pavements). But since we have to fly quite often I decided to buy a 2nd hand Zapp as it looked small and light, perfect for travelling and suitable for our carseat.

Got one half price on ebay, and while it looks in good nick, it has arrived folded and just will not open. Watched the manufacturers youtube clips and it seems that the bit at the base that has to slide out just isn't sliding out -no matter how hard I pull it.

Is there a knack to it I'm missing?

think you push down
and then pull?

Nope, not working...damn, thought I'd got a bargain.

Lift up the hinges at the back of the pushchair-they should start to seperate outwards as you lift. Make sure the brake is on. Then put your foot on the pedal, press down and slide backwards. Keep spreading the back wheels apart as you do it. The rest is easy, but this is probably the hardest pushchair in the world to unfold. I assume it's new, in which case it should loosen up the more you use it. I have no idea why they made it so difficult.

Put some WD40 or similar on the wee bar bit and squirt it round the grey thingy with the number on it - try and get it in around the bar bit (it's been a looooong time since I had a Zapp)

It's stiff and it's needing loosened.

And for some ironic reason, Zapps like to open themselves up as you carry them. Hmm Fantastic design there Quinny!

Get some of the velcro roll that you get in B&Q and rig yourself a loop to close it shut otherwise as Hypatia said it's a massive pita

Good idea hathor! :o

They are pain to put up until they are well worn in!

EmmaNicole · 03/02/2012 19:07

I have a zapp, it may help if you pull the back 2 wheels apart a bit before you slide part 3 towards you....hope that makes sense. I haven't had an issue with mine being stiff and I really like it.

Glimmerberry · 03/02/2012 19:47

As I said, its second hand so would have thought it'd be worn in. Will see if I can get any further with it tonight now DS is in bed. Looks like the sort of thing that could be difficult if knocked out of alignment and it wasn't particularly well wrapped for transit.

Done it. Bloody hell that was hard work. I decided that before I gave up and starting harrassing the ebay seller I'd at least try WD40-ing it. So set about taking off all the fabric to keep it clean and see what I was doing properly. Taking off the fabric is a bit of a job in itself, but I want it mainly for short quick trips with my car seat so had to do it anyway....

But then without the fabric it suddenly became easy to put it up and down! No idea why but hey it works, it was a bargain and seems to be a great little unit for porting the carseat about.

Really glad since I'd already bought some accessories!

I'd give it a wee squirt of WD40 I think before you fold it up, just in case Grin but glad you got sorted

ItsMyLastOne · 06/02/2012 12:34

I'm glad you sorted it. I've had my zapp for about 10 months. It's not been used much so is really stiff. I finally used some WD40 the other day and it's loads better. No more being on my hands and knees trying to open it up in a car park! Grin
