Going around in circles...

oh God, I am so sorry, there have been so many doubles threads on here recently and I have read them all -- the problem is that everyone's requirements are different! So I am going to try and make this my last post before actually just biting the bullet and buying something. Too much research making my head spin!

I need a buggy for a (nearly) 3 year old plus a newborn so that we can go on country walks uphill and use on the beach, but also put the buggy in the car and go around the shops. I have just been given a Maxi Cosi carseat for the newborn, which would be great to be able to click onto the buggy if he is asleep.

I was about to buy a P&T Sport second hand but am now confused. Version 1 or version 2 ?! Or doesn't it matter?

And even more confusingly, what about the Mountain Buggy +One? Is it better than P&T? But don't think I will get one for under £300, so probably not even worth thinking about.

Then, someone said the MB Duet was the same size as the +One and better.... so now I am totally confused. It looks much wider than a tandem, P&T or +One.

I have always had BJs, but am worried that their double would be far too big and heavy around the shops, in the car etc.

I know there are others out there, eg the Twist, but I am getting bogged down in research and just want to make a decision!

I love my old BJ City Classic, so will be keeping that, and want to buy a double buggy that I have for six months to a year and then sell on. (unless anyone knows anything about the doubles seats for the Baby Jogger you can get in the US!)

Tiggywunkle, is Best Buggy your website? If so, apologies, I have just emailed you this question. If not (how come you get to try so many buggies you lucky lucky thing?!) then thank you so much for your patience and advice - along with everyone else who posts regularly. I PROMISE to go away after this...

PS does anyone know: is this a version 1 or 2? Think it might be v1 because I think the red strap hanging near the handle bars is for closing it up, rather than the automatic lock on the v2??

thanks!

Is have a p & t sport, use it for what you describe, love it. I don't think you'd regret it. have had two v2, so can't comment on v1.

To be honest, you have a tough one really. If you had the money, I would probably recommend you the +One. However the car seat would not clip on at the same time as a toddler (well not officially but if I had a car seat adaptor it would be one I would like to try). I am worried that your 3 year old would be too big for the doubles kit when on top in newborn mode, or for the doubles kit underneath if you had a P&Ts that takes a car seat on top. You could really do with trying your son out in both modes in a shop - bearing in mind that I believe the Explorer has a higher hood height than the Sport, and that in 3-4 months time, he will be even bigger!
I dont know about you, but when we go to the beach, my toddler walks, so would you need to take a double to the beach? Ditto re a country walk? You are keeping your BJ Classic, so would that do the off road bit or do you really need an off road double?
If you can get by, then to be honest I would send you off to look at a second hand Peach Blossom ideally (but they are still a lot second hand and the older versions have shorter straps), or a Pear, or find a bargain B-Dual to do the shopping / car seat bit.
If it helps my 3 year old has changed dramatically almost overnight on her 3rd birthday. We still use a double simply because she's unpredictable / whingey / tantrummy / is tired at times and it simply makes my life easier for shopping and longer walks, but she is walking a lot now. I bet you only use a double for 6 months.

Hi, thanks as ever. I guess I would only use the car seat when using the buggy as a single if I went for P&T or +One... if I was using it as a double, eg in town, the baby would have to go in a cocoon or whatever.
We live in the middle of nowhere, and it is really hilly, so I really need the double for the way back on a walk when my 3 year old gets knackered. DD1 walked from the age of 18mo for an hour a day, but DD2 is a bit of a lazybones! We live ten minutes from the beach, so beach isn't just lovely sunny days, but a lot of walks are done along the beach in the freezing cold, hence needing a double there for whinging toddler... Justifying myself!
So unfortunately, yes I really do need an off road double, rather than the beautiful Peach Blossom. Is the B-Dual ok off road?

Otherwise I think it has to be P&T or splash out on the +One. Bit concerned about the 6 - 12 month bit in the +One though... although very interested in your comments about how your toddler changed after 3rd birthday. DD2 turns three in March, so here's hoping!
What kind of resale value do you think I would get on the +One?
There is a P&T on eBay really close to us that sells at 8pm or so tonight, so quite tempted by that.
thanks for the help!

PS, if I did buy a P&T I would (as you suggest) probably only use it for 6 months, then sell it again on eBay/Mumsnet. Then I could go back to my trusty BabyJogger.

I think the +One does become problematic after 6 months to be honest. I think if your 3 year old was walking more then it would be easier.
The B-Dual was pretty good off road. Its not really meant as a off roader but it made light work of our beach. I have to say something like a Nipper or Air Buggy Mimi would be better though. Can you split your budget and get an off road side by side and an inline second hand for £150ish each? It is possible lol! If you got the P&T and it didn't work out then you would more than likely get your money back anyway.

Thirstysomething · 29/01/2012 19:48

ok, thanks heaps, DH would sadly hit the roof if I bought two, so think i am going to bid on one of these p&t's

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170770147908?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_540wt_1146

or www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320834074456?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2648#ht_865wt_1146

and then sell it on if it doesnt work, and go with B-Dual or +One

Thanks so much!

The Swift is a single though isn't it?

Thirstysomething · 01/02/2012 14:10

Argh, keep missing out on Ebay P&Ts. Anyone have one they want to sell me?! Good condition and post to Cornwall...
PS Why was the P&T sport so much better than the new explorer?
