First Wheels Pram

Hi
Im due to have DC3 at the end of Feb. DS is nearly 4 so is fine to walk, however DD will only be 12 months so i will need a double buggy.
I have bought (2nd hand) a first wheels city twin complete with a carry cot for new baby.
However ive been testing it and its quite complicated to unfold/assemble and heavy. Im wondering if ive bought the right pram. Does anyone have any experience?
Im now thinking of selling the pram and buying a Cosatto You 2 Twin instead as it looks much easier to fold unfold.
Does anyone have any advice?

The First Wheels is a big beastie and also too wide for many doorways. It looks pretty and people like the looks but in reality most people swap. However I dont think you should go for a Cosatto You2 Twin either as side by side umbrella fold pushchairs tend to be heavy to push.
What is your budget, and do you definitely want a side by side. Do you have any other requirements?

YellowSparkle · 26/01/2012 23:40

Thanks for the advice. I want a pram thats quite lightweight (if thats possible for a double) easy to push/ handle. I dont mind the style/ type as long as it is suitable from birth. I have a large car boot where the pram will be mainly kept.
I dont really want to spend more than £300 and dont mind getting a 2nd hand pram in good condition.

I aslo forgot to mention that it need to be easy/quick to set up. Thats one of the main reasons im unsure about the First Wheels pram.

If width is no issue then look at an Out n About Nipper. If width is an issue look for an Air Buggy Mimi or a Baby Jogger City Mini. All are easy to push and relatively lightweight for a double and are suitable from birth.

YellowSparkle · 27/01/2012 08:43

Thanks Tiggy. I think width will be an issue as it needs to fit through most door ways when im out. Are the other two prams easy to unfold and set up?
Would they be better than a maclaren techno twin?
Which pram would you recommend as the best double as im going to sell the First Wheels due to size and assembly time.

You couldn't get easier than a Baby Jogger City Mini to fold/unfold! You just pull a handle in each of the seats and it folds like that. Then just flick it open to unfold.

I don't know about the Mimi but you could probably find a video on YouTube.

Tiggywunkle · 27/01/2012 18:14

The Mimi is a simply flick open and its up if I remember correctly. Its a squeeze of two buttons to fold. Only marginally harder to do than the easy peasy lemon squeezy Baby Jogger ie easy!!
I would never buy a side to side umbrella pushchair. They are without exception much harder to push than a more structured pushchair.

YellowSparkle · 27/01/2012 20:04

The baby jogger looks very good and less compliated than the First Wheels. Thanks for the advice!

Also would you recommend a side by side pushchair over a tandem?

OP posts:
Tiggywunkle · 27/01/2012 20:49

It's personal preference. For me for every day, if I only could have one double, it would be a tandem. It's just much easier and problematic in shops etc. For walking, I do like a tandem. I have just put one of my favourite side by sides on the pushchair selling board though which may be of interest as its like a First Wheels but simpler and narrower.

YellowSparkle · 27/01/2012 21:10

So if i was to go for a tandem, which would you recommend?
Is it the Air Buggy Mimi that you are selling?

Yes but thats not the one I thought for you. Its the Love 'N' Care Twingo. Its near the top of the list.

Re a tandem - it really depends how much you have to spend. The best for me has been the new iCandy Peach Blossom 2. But the Britax B-Dual is good and much less money. The designer of the Kidz Kargo Duellette has managed to get a car seat onto it and hopes to have seats suitable from birth soon - if that happens, then that would be a good tandem to look at. I liked the iCandy Pear too and they are pretty reasonable second hand.

YellowSparkle · 27/01/2012 22:00

I did originally want a tandem, however was put off by comments that they could be heavy and difficult to push. The icandy pear does look like it is reasonably priced 2nd hand. Are tandems easy to get out of car boots and set up?
The Love N Care looks like an great side by side option. Reminds me of the First Wheels with the seats being able to face both ways. Its the main reason i bought the First Wheels. Have a M&P Sola at the moment and like how the seat can face me. Is it easy to set up/ put away? One of my problems with the First Wheels is that its quite tricky to fold away as theres three catchs and that its so big i dont think its practical in a shopping centre.

The Pear is reasonably priced second hand. It does take a minute or so to set up and may be a bit faffy - you need to open the pushchair, open the pip convertor frame (that is flat packed), make sure it is on right, then put the seats on. Its not hard but its not a flick open and you are done job! The TwinGo is a flick open and go type - like the BJCM. Simply unclip the clips holding it together at the sides and if I remember correctly it then just flicks open. Folding - you slide the middle catch up, and the slide the two catches up at either side and it folds in half. So yes, much easier - a 5 second job - oh and then you can put the side clips back on if you wish to hold it all together. The only caveat is that the seats have to both face forwards to fold with them on, or you can take the seats off.

Tiggywunkle · 27/01/2012 23:31

iCandy Pear
TwinGo

YellowSparkle · 28/01/2012 18:38

Thanks for all the information. Is the Icandy Peach Blossom 2 similar to fold/unfold as the pear?
Think its looking like its between the Baby Jogger and the TwinGo. Are they ok to get round shopping centres etc?
How much are you seeling your TwinGo for?

OP posts:
Tiggywunkle · 28/01/2012 19:39

The Peach Blossom 2 is easier than the Pear to fold / unfold. The side by sides should be fine around shopping centres. The TwinGo is on the pushchairs selling board (link at the top of this topic). The TwinGo is bigger than the Baby Jogger but you gain the seating options.
