Pram confusion....iCandy Cherry, Bugaboo Bee or a different model?

Hi

This is my first post - I'm expecting my first baby in early March and have got bogged down in pram confusion. I wondered if any city dwelling mums could offer their opinion on the iCandy Cherry and Bugaboo Bee - or any other designs they recommend.

Just to explain - we live in a second floor flat and I'll have to carry the pram up and down the stairs every day as there's nowhere to leave it in the main hallway. As we have to keep it in the flat, it will need to be folded up each day for storage purposes.

The main criteria for me is that the pram is light enough to carry up and down stairs. We loved the Bugaboo Bee for this reason but I was put off by it not having a carrycot. We have a Moses basket so it's not that I will put the baby down to sleep in the carrycot at home but I just prefer the security of a sturdier carrycot when out and about. So that brings us to the iCandy Cherry....we loved this as we could buy a separate carrycot but I'm worried the frame is bulkier to carry.

I hadn't originally planned on spending so much - I had my heart set on the Mamas and Papas Urbo and it was discounted as well - but then I tried it out in the shop and could barely lift it!

I'd appreciate any helpful advice - one other thing is that we don't have a car and use public transport so whatever we get needs to be bus/train suitable. Oh, and we're probably moving out of London in the next six months so this whole stairs thing will no longer be a problem!

Thanks.

I havent had time to read through all the replies so apologies if I'm repeating any of the above, but I had exactly the same thoughts as you re the bee not having a carry cot and bought the Cherry. When it arrived, I hated it - it was bulky and cumbersome, so exchanged it for the Bee and never looked back. Its truly a great design, SO light and nippy - and as I'm quite small this was really important. Its perfect for cities, brilliant on the bus, compact, and I really haven't found the lack of a carry cot a problem. My daughter was born during the freezing cold snowy weather in 2010/11 and she was so cosy and comfortable in the Bee's cocoon. It is also great not having the buggy come apart in two pieces. Definitely go for the Bee! (its also more stylish IMO..)

Another vote for the micralight here. It has a carrycot which is rear-facing and suitable from birth (or you can use a car seat, depending on the one you have, and save some money) and it is a dream on stairs, due to the large pneumatic back wheels. I've taken mine through the Underground and on holiday, it coped with stairs, cobblestones, sandy beaches (just tip it back and it goes like a wheelbarrow on the beach and there are very few buggies that will do that). It folds really well, easily and fast, with one hand, and fits in our very small boot. Genius pram.

It also has a buggy board you can attach if you have a second baby while the first is still young, and you can get fab upgraded handles which make it even more ergonomic.

daisylou I have PM'ed you regarding the Micralite Toro carrycot and the Bugaboo Bee+ - it fits on perfectly with the adaptors and makes a lovely pram, and then buggy :)

When we lived in a 1st floor flat we had a Cherry and could easily pop off the carrycot, fold the frame and carry both upstairs, one in either hand. I found this easier than carrying the baby up separately, leaving him upstairs then going back for something that folds in one piece but this would vary from person to person I suppose. I thought the cherry frame was very light, never felt like 11.5kg with the carrycot to me but the stats are usually right Smile Def agree with the Baby Jogger City Mini 4 concept also though particularly now they do the range of carrycots as the fold is SO easy. Really can't comment on how either would work on the bus though, perhaps in that scenario the one piece fold really is king. It really is very hard to find something that ticks all your boxes that's for sure. Good luck!

What about a Mamas and Papas Luna? They have a soft carry cot that you can attach, fold up really small and are nice and light. Easy to push as well.

Think baby jogger in purple is 3 wheel not 4
John Lewis don't have 4 wheel yet (crap hole these days) so look on baby jogger website
