Silver cross surf v quinny buzz. Expertise needed!

I cannot even decide what to eat for breakfast never mind which pram to get. These 2 look good in the shop...but what about real life?

I need something that will cope with walks to school, can be an isofix travel system, I wasn't bothered about a carry cot with the surf but would get one with the buzz as it doesn't seem too flat. We live in the countryside so preferred the air tyres and I have a largish boot which will cope with these 2 push chairs, but have you found them too heavy lifting in and out of a car?

feel fed up, fat and fatigued. last time I didn't even pick the pram, mum and hubby went to get it as we had an early arrival! ( bebe confort Lola) 6 weeks to go and counting!

pram tsarinas - I need you!

Avoid the Buzz like the plague.

Bonkerz · 09/01/2012 09:18

I love my buzz!Grin

Honeydragon · 09/01/2012 09:20

Bonkerz ....really? Shock

Grin sorry it's not very often I meet a fan as they are heavy annoying things with a stupidly wide footprint

sleepevader · 09/01/2012 09:22

Got to say neither! Dont think either will cope with the countryside and both seem quite wide.

Does it have to parent face?

I haven't found It wide at all. I have the older style buzz 3 and love the wheels and love the seat. DS is comfy in it. It's perfect for town as basket is big and accessible. Folding is a slight pain but no more than my pliko if I'm honest!

Bonkerz · 09/01/2012 09:27

I can fit the buzz in my boot fine and I like that u can just pop seat off and fold wheels separate and that they stand so can be slid in a footwell (have a multipla so loads of foot space)

Bonkerz · 09/01/2012 09:28

I have had lots of buggies including the pliko p3, Luna, perfect, zapp and the buzz is my dream buggy!!

PotteringAlong · 09/01/2012 09:29

I lOve my buzz too...!

EnjoyResponsibly · 09/01/2012 09:31

I loved my Quinny. I got an enormous amount of satisfaction from going " Voila!" when erecting it (small things y'know).

I found it very easy to manoeuvre and the air tyres made it very easy on my wrists on hard ground.

I walked MILES with mine and wore the tyre treads out.

EnjoyResponsibly · 09/01/2012 09:36

I got mine (just) into the boot of my Golf.

I also liked the clip on bag, very handy.

DS slept for hours in the reclining chair.

I hated my Buzz! Hated, hated, hated it! It's 67cm wide, which is really doubles territory. My current single pushchair is 56cm wide and when I got rid of the Buzz (to the first offer, couldn't wait to get rid!) it felt like pushing a buggy in comparison! The surf is 58cm wide which is much better.

I did like the fold/unfold of the Buzz. I'm surprised anyone thinks it's a pain because you literally just push the buttons and down it goes, no faffing. And it folds nicely with the seat forward facing. I also have a multiple and couldn't fit the buzz in the boot flat which annoyed me. When I've got an enormous car and a single pushchair I don't want to be taking a wheel off or have it upright taking up all the space. Hmm

The wheels on the buzz aren't exactly all terrain type wheels. I found the front wheel was pretty useless on anything but flat, non-muddy, non-leafy ground. The wheels on the surf are probably no better tbh.

The baskets on both are rubbish. The buzz basket is very shallow and so open you can't really pile stuff up in it. You can get the 'buzz box' which is actually a bag, but that's small too. It's just suitable for the rain cover and nothing else really. The surf basket is seriously tiny too. I know they're supposed to bringing out a new bigger basket soon, or maybe they have already.

So, in my opinion, the Buzz is good for nothing really, and the Surf is better for towns and someone who doesn't need much storage space. I honestly don't think I'd get either, but if I was pushed I'd say the surf. But if I had the surf I'd want another cheap all terrain type for the countryside. I wouldn't want my pretty surf getting dirty anyway! Wink

Tiggywunkle · 09/01/2012 10:42

I am sat here writing about the Surf and I have to say I am more than a little gobsmacked that two pages of the Silver Cross catalogue are pretty much dedicated to how good the air suspension is on the Surf and how it can tackle "a rugged beach, a tangled knotted wood"!! The front wheels are tiny and I have to say I would love to see the Surf on both of those terrains to see how it copes!! I would be very surprised if it goes more than a foot or two! I have had pushchairs with bigger wheels falter on a beach or rough ground! I would love to hear if anyone has a Surf and finds it great for off roading! There aren't many pushchairs I would take through 'a tangled knotted wood' and I can't say the Surf is the first pushchair I would recommend for off roading!

aswellasyou · 09/01/2012 15:20

I'd go with the Surf of those two. I actually like the idea of the Surf (hated the Buzz. Seriously, 67cm wide? What were Quinny thinking?!) and I see loads around here where there are lots of cobbles and wonky flagstone pavements and they really do seem to cope very well. They also look like you have to put no effort into pushing them. I would be concerned about the seat size for when the child is older though. Unless you have a short child like I do. Wink

Have a look at this thread too OP www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pushchair_chat/1374757-icandy-peach-vs-quinny-buzz-3-4

Neither!

Quinny Buzz is still a good seller after all these years but I cannot fathom why. I guess mostly first-timers who don't have any experience (yet) of what they really require from a buggy and how it will work in practical terms for them. Never sold one to a second or third timer. See above!

Silver Cross Surf - quality/reliability issues still ongoing with these. Problems with the fold mechanism, problems with the telescopic handle, rear wheels not staying on, bits of trim on the seat unit constantly falling off. I could go on.
Personal opinion, really crap baskets (you get both these days in the price) with v little space to actually get anything into them. The baby nest which is supposed to be able to replace the need for a carrycot is often complained about for giving babies an odd seating position and generally rickety build quality.
On top of all that Silver Cross have just (1st Jan) hiked the price by nearly 30%! To my eyes it just isn't worth it.

For a v similar price to the Surf you can get an Baby Vista. Superb build quality, well balanced making it easy to manoeuvre and tip back to climb kerbs etc (the Buzz is dreadful for this), HUGE storage basket with great access, large carrycot included in the price (which is ventilated, so suitable for overnight sleeping), Maxi Cosi Cabriofix/Pebble adaptors included, good UV sun visors built in (let's face it, parasols don't actually work do they?), good sized quick release wheels all round so will take on some pretty challenging terrain (although if you're a beach person you really need something with large fixed/fixable wheels all round).

Just my twopence worth really. I think you would get better value for money and a good deal more satisfaction with a Vista.

Sorry, that was a bit longer than I thought!

TeaandCake · 10/01/2012 00:15

Bugger, will try that again Vista

TeaandCake · 10/01/2012 00:16

*Uppa Baby Vista. Doh!

Bonkerz · 10/01/2012 09:17

Teaandcake: I'm a third timer and a childminder so have had my fair share of pushchairs!!!! Still loving the buzz!!!!!

aswellasyou · 10/01/2012 10:45

TeaandCake, do you work in a pushchair shop? Envy

TeaandCake · 10/01/2012 20:56

Bonkerz - if it works for you then keep on doing it! It's refreshing to hear of someone who is satisfied with their choice and it's working out them. Long may it continue! I'm forever hearing about people's disappointment in their buggy and it's a bit depressing.

Aswellasyou - yes, I do work in a fab nursery shop and I LOVE it!

Tiggywunkle · 10/01/2012 21:38

I think 99.9% of Buzzes must be sold by Mothercare! It's the one pushchair that does tend to stand out in that shop as being pretty, smart and shiny, and every first mum to be always visits Mothercare to look around! Every time I go in there, a Buzz is being demoed! Even I almost succumbed to the looks once! It does look deceptively small too.

I agree totally re the Vista :)

saoirse86 · 10/01/2012 21:53

Teaandcake where do you work?

pramsgalore · 10/01/2012 22:31

lol, i always looked at the buzzes only because of the way they unfold Blush never got one though

pramsgalore · 10/01/2012 22:32
