Pushchair for 20 month old and newborn

I'm looking for a tandem pushchair for a 20 month old and newborn. I'd like something that I'll be able to use for as long as possible and can also be used as a single. I've looked at p&t dash, explorer and vibe and didn't love them. Haven't seen new verve, the first model doesn't sound good but I'd like 4 wheels. I like BJCS but worry it will get too heavy as dc's grow. I like the sound of the new iCandy peach blossom but no release date as far as i know. I'm due in 5 weeks but can manage without a double in beginning. My single is a cameleon which I like a lot, although I wish I'd planned ahead!

If you can wait for the new Peach Blossom then long term t will be a tandem with longevity and a fab single. But I know it doesn't get officially launched until March and that's no indicator of when it will arrive in stores, although I believe it is now in production. Beyond that, there seem to be issues with most tandems on the market. Three of us here had Verves which got refunded after chassis issues. Beyond that the best tandems for a newborn and toddler are probably the Pear and B-Dual. But it really depends what is important to you. But in your shoes, I would make do and buy a new Peach Blossom :) For a few months wait you will have a fab pushchair that lasts years.

Thank you for your reply, it's been incredibly helpful. Great to know that the new peach is on the way. I really should have posted here ages ago, I've practically been dreaming in tandem buggies lately! I will take your advice, we can definitely manage with what we've got for the time being. Thanks!

Keep your eye on the iCandy website because there are snippets every few days on there.

boysenberry · 05/01/2012 16:03

I'll be sure to do that, thanks. I didn't mention before that I'm in Dublin so I wonder if it will take longer before it arrives over here. My local iCandy retailer said they are just waiting for a date, she had no info other than that. I'll have to wait and see!

I spoke to iCandy earlier and they were talking about a release date of the middle of the year :( I dont think I would hang on because that to me sounds like June / July :(((

boysenberry · 05/01/2012 22:25

Noooo!!!! :( I thought I was home and dry. Back to the drawing board it is then. I will look at the Pear and B-Dual. i haven't given either of those much thought before now. I did spot the P&T Promenade online but again there doesn't seem to be a release date here. I saw it available to pre-order on a London based site but is also more expensive than the Peach. I would also be unsure about buying a brand new P&T model as it could end up being taken off the market for improvements to be made. It looks nice though if. I really appreciate your expertise, thank you Thanks

I know....don't.....I was disappointed too.
I would be reluctant to buy a new P&Ts too....every model to date except the Sport I believe has had some issue with it....

boysenberry · 06/01/2012 17:16

I'll probably avoid them altogether in that case. Im not a fan of the large gap between the seat top and the hood either. Out of interest and if you have time to reply, does the clicking of the peach hood bother you? Is it an entire new version of the peach that will be coming out or just the converter and second seat?

OP posts:
Tiggywunkle · 06/01/2012 20:32

I believe there have been modifications to the Peach. I know the basket is bigger. I was told the new hoods wouldn't be as noisy (because I didn't like it) but we will have to wait and see if it's actually been altered. I also hope the one handed recline button is a bit more decisive too. I suspect that there will be changes but apart from the basket which i was told about, we will have to wait to find out!

boysenberry · 06/01/2012 21:54

Ok so I am now officially waiting Grin! There are some nice bargains in the sales at the moment, I'll hit them next week and see what happens. I might buy something with a good resale to keep me going for a couple of months until the peach arrives. Thanks so much Smile

Enjoy waiting. I dont think you will do much better than some of the fab under £300 deals on a B-Dual that are around at present. You can sell them second hand for similar money!

mummy2l · 07/01/2012 22:05

I have the same gap between my dc's and have a p&t. If I had my time again I'd go for the b-dual instead most defiantly. Dc2 is now 3.5 months and already grown out of the cocoon. It's also a real faff to try and get him in and out of the bottom if the double seat is on top, I have to take it off to get him out gently! Also the double kit can't recline for ds1 to nap of we are out and about which can be annoying! The b-dual has two good quality seats and one can lie nice and flat for the new baby. I was looking at it today and wishing I could swap!! HTH

boysenberry · 08/01/2012 09:50

Another vote for the b dual, thanks. In ROI they are selling for €399 with 2nd seat. The non sale price is €549. The second hand sellers are looking for only a bit less than sale price which is promising if I sell it on!
Mummy, which model p&t do you have?

We have the explorer! There doesn't seem to be a perfect tandem on the market at the moment but the b-duel does seem pretty good for the money :)

boysenberry · 10/01/2012 08:40

Yeah the perfect tandem is currently not with us. I just realised that's you on the other thread, hope you got your new chassis. Thanks for advice Smile

Hi - I was about to post the exact same question with exact same age gap (due June 01st) just to see what answers came back, although I think my mind's made up!.
My decision seems to have whittled down to a Baby Jogger City Select or Phil & Ted's Explorer - my problem is I really don't like the idea of the P&T's seating arrangement - not only does it seems inflexible (especially in comparison to Baby Jogger) but I hate the idea of one of them gazing at the back of another seat, and then ultimately the fight over who sits where when old enough!). Getting them in and out also seems quite tricky in P&T. I'm happy to put a bit more money in and get the Baby Jogger as hoping to have a third with similar age gap again so should get good use, and can easily go back to a single afterwards too.
John Lewis have Baby Jogger in all the colours - and bigger storesoften have them in to look/try/see etc. I've had a sinlge baby jogger and can't fault it - the fold mechanism is sooo easy. The double has amazing flexibility, and even with two on board as toddlers the shopping space is massive (which is my only critiscism of their other singles - city mini model). Can also get the standard add on's for comfort like buggy board, parent and child consoles, etc...
I am pretty sold on the Baby Jogger City Select I have to say, after doing a lot of research/asked friends/tried them out, etc... so thought I'd pop it on here as an option for you.
Hope this helps! There are a few places I've found online that will do a 'package' of everything (incl or excl baby car seat if you need a new one too, or add on's) so it's worth asking...

Tiggywunkle · 10/01/2012 14:23

I used to be the biggest fan of the BJCS until the day at 9 months when it got so heavy that it made the inside of my arms hurt. I gave up with it shortly after. I had a 21 age gap. I don't feel like I got value for money TBH. My baby had only just gone into the second seat.

Tiggywunkle · 10/01/2012 14:23

21 month!

boysenberry · 10/01/2012 23:12

Thanks MrsH2010. I did look at the city select but I ruled it out for the same reason that Tiggy mentioned. I have to say though, every time I see two children in a city select I always notice that they look very happy and comfy. The seating arrangement possibilities appear to be endless! I tried my aunts P&T Sport loaded with her 3 yo and my 18 mo and found that heavy too but that is an old-ish model. Or maybe it's just me! Grin

MrsH2010 · 11/01/2012 09:39

It's difficult isn't it! For every person that says BJCS or PT is great, there's another that swears it's the worst purchase they ever made! Going round in circles!! I think both will be heavy after a certain age gap I guess - I can't see that if you stacked the BJCS chairs in the same arrangement that PT is in that it would be any less heavy simply due to chassis, etc...?? Might be wrong! I'm the same as you though - and every time I see kids in it they seem happy as clams, whereas I have friends who have quickly outgrown PT simply because of seating arrangement and looking at the back of another seat all the time!
(Hadn't realised PT also had blow up tyres till yesterday which isn't a plus!!)

boysenberry · 11/01/2012 21:06

Definitely another disadvantage of P&T. You would need to carry a repair kit or something, not my area! I had a look in a couple of shops today and, of all the tandems available, Im still a big fan of the current iCandy Peach Blossom. Again it isn't perfect but the new model sounds like it would tick all the boxes for me. Now Im deciding whether to go for it now or wait and get the new one while using something temporary in the meantime. Hope you've decided!!
