We used one for 5+ years. No problems and very robust. Good if you're a bit taller as extendable handles.

workshy · 01/01/2012 19:11

I used to have one and absolutely loved it

strong and sturdy and really high adjustable handles which was fantatsic as I really struggled finding a pushchair that I didn't have to bend over to push (I'm 6ft or 6ft 2 in my boots)

people seem to have fallen out with maclaren but it was the best pushchair I have tried

TheSkiingGardener · 01/01/2012 19:15

Excellent reliable robust workhorse.

saltyair · 01/01/2012 19:33

That sounds great - thank you - they are in the sale at mothercare at the moment. Are they suitable from birth (expecting first child so am complete novice!!)

With all the others - used it for 3.5 years and just had it renovated for dd who is due this month. Agree mclaren oddly unfashonabke for no good reason I can see

Gigondas · 01/01/2012 19:36

Salty we used it from birth with no trouble

stressheaderic · 01/01/2012 19:36

I have a Maclaren Quest - it is fab. Been on and off loads of planes, in and out of car every day, we have worked it to death for 2 years and it's still as good as new.
But DD is only small and slight so it is perfect for us, whereas friend has the Techno for her bigger heavier DS and she says it's a brilliant pushchair too.

Maclarens may not be blingy with alloy wheels, trendy colourways and fold down into a 1 inch square cube, but I still think they're the best.

RandomMess · 01/01/2012 19:38

Not good if you're very short IME but I am well below average female height...

RandomMess · 01/01/2012 19:39

Oh and if you fancy something more pram like and rear facing pick something up 2nd hand local to you off ebay or similar then move onto your lovely Maclaren Techno

Gigondas · 01/01/2012 19:39

Quest is good (agree fab for travel) but think it is only suitable for 3m up

saltyair · 01/01/2012 19:39

I'm 5'7"....That's about average, I think....is it? actually, I have no idea if that is average or not...

Yes we had a silver Cross Freeway for DD when she was a newborn which was lovely and snug and a real 'proper pram'. It was a dream to push and perfect for our winter baby. These are all over Ebay and can be picked up really cheaply.
We switched to the Quest at around 3 months but still used the big pram sometimes, for longer walks or on cold days.
This arrangement worked perfectly for us, and we'll do the same again for DC2.

5inthebed · 01/01/2012 19:54

I'm 5'6 and found the XT was great for me to push. DH is 6'4 and he pushed it with ease as well. It is suitable from birth but I'd buy a liner as well to make it a bit more softer.

RandomMess · 01/01/2012 19:54

5'7" is above average height Envy

I love the mac but not from birth. I mean you CAN but honestly? I always use something with air tyres for the first few months. You need proper suspension as babies still have the moro reflex (they throw their little arms up in the air when you go over a bump) so really, as comfy as possible and biggish wheels is best.

Depends where you will be pushing it though. It doesn't hurt them to have that refles but it really disturbes their sleep and my almost sole purpose for going out with the pram was to get mine to sleep, well, whether we went out with that intention or not they always did.

I liked them to have a good sleep if they were going to have one.
It makes them more fun when they are awake Smile

So yes get a mac but try to borrow or get a second hand thing with a bit more absorbency of paving, just to use while baby is tiny.

JenniferEight · 01/01/2012 20:03

Sorry for typos, and my 'honestly?' wasn't indignant!

saltyair · 01/01/2012 20:06

Sorry Random! Just how tall are you?

Air tyres? Eh? I'd like to avoid getting something and then having to get something else....

Jees..this is complicated....can they go in a sling when they first come out?

i had exactly this from birth for dd1 but she was a summer baby so it wasnt too cold etc. suited us just fine.

fivepies · 01/01/2012 20:11

My DD went in her maclaren XT from birth (it lies flat). Had no problems and have never heard of air tyres! DD liked the bumps and would sleep even when going over cobbles.

Gigondas · 01/01/2012 20:18

Also had no issues with dd from birth- air tyres never even crossed my mind as an issue.

Gigondas · 01/01/2012 20:21

Salty yes they can depending on sling. Used one with dd too. And completely agree re not getting another once baby older - quite why you would want the faff and issue of storing/selling a second buggy beats me.

I also love how light , easy to fold and store Mclaren is.

Oh and dh 6' 2 and has no issue with this (swears by mclaren as used them for my older dsc too )

SnapesOnAPlane · 01/01/2012 20:26

Techno XT (or the XLR) will be fine from birth :).
I worried about air tyres, suspension and all sorts too Blush. I'm just a pramaholic though, most people aren't. If you're in a city/town centre with no big bumps or non-flat paved walking, don't worry about it. If you're hoping a maclaren will do for hiking through the woods, that's another story Wink.
HTH

saltyair · 01/01/2012 20:27

I have quite enough clutter without adding to it!

Can I ask what sort of sling you used Gigondas?

It's great getting some input from sensible people, my DP's only response has been 'can we have a cool one, you know with all terrain wheels'...... Hmm

HandMini · 01/01/2012 20:27

I used maclaren from birth with a phil and teds cocoon (attached) in it, that worked well. I have only one complaint with maclaren techno and that's no bloody luggage space under it, esp if totally flat. Other than that it's magnificent, esp if you use public transport or are pushed for space at home

saltyair · 01/01/2012 20:28

Hiking?!
