Silver Cross 3D Pram system....has anyone got one?

I've kind of set my heart on this system because it appears to tick all the boxes we require. But I'm just wondering, before we make a big purchase, if anyone has come across any issues/problems with theirs. And also, what has made it the pram system of choice for you.

It's the first system which caught my eye, and after having a lengthy demo instore yesterday, I just want to be sure.

Thank you Smile

What boxes does it need to tick? And what is it you like about it? Honestly, most people with a pushchair like this end up getting a stroller at 6 months. It's really expensive for what it is. Do you not want something that faces you when in pushchair mode?

I had a Mamas and Papas Pliko Pramette which is pretty much the same thing. It was really long folded, suprisingly bulky, the wheels weren't great, suspension wasn't very good and felt heavy to push with the basket full. I only usedit to 4 months so it would only get heavier. These are common complaints about the 3D too.

I'd look at something like the UppaBaby Vista in that price range. It does everything you could ever want in a pushchair except going properly offroad.

It's crap :o

Have used several with various aged children (Am a nanny) and unless the child is a teeny baby and it's in the flat mode...its awful...rickity. crap to push and the seat looks uncomfortable for the child

I love mine!!!! DS is now 2.4 and still use for him although i am due DC2 anytime so will be reverting back to pram mode.

It does depend on what you want though.

Personally I would not buy the car seat because it is very fiddly and heavy and only lasted 9 months. I never put it on the chassis as it is very easy to transfer a sleepy baby from the car seat to the pram. But it has worn very well.

The pram is gorgeous if not used in that mode for long. Very pretty and quite traditional looking. My hood doesn't clip down properly on one side though which is very annoying...wish i had noticed and got it swapped when new.

The push chair has been fab! very roomy, DS still fits in with plenty of room. You can hang loads of bags over the handles. Feels very sturdy.

It fits in small car boots ok, heavy getting on and off buses but i think that's true of loads of prams.

The basket is not the easiest to get loads of stuff in but adequate.

As it has lasted for 2 children I would say money very well spent.

xx

Ah conflicting reviews, just what I like Grin

It hadn't actually occured to me about the baby not being able to face me when it came out of the pram bit. So, that's something I'm going to have to think about I guess. What appealed to me was the fact that it folded down quite small, and would fit in the boot of my little Saxo. Also that it looked quite traditional in pram mode, which appealed to me. I want baby to feel secure, and more importantly comfortable. Toys r us have a deal at the moment where by you get the car seat free and its all only costs £299. I really don't want something which looks over modern, or plastic. And the price needs to be right too because we are on a tight budget.

Any more ideas anyone - I am a complete novice Blush

at that price i would get it! the car seat is perfectly functional and you're saving £100!!!

aswellasyou · 30/12/2011 15:24

That is a reasonable price (Mothercare and others are doing the same deal), but I still wouldn't get it! Grin The carseat's lovely though, and really good for a newborn becasue it's unusually reclined. They've also just announced the release of an Isofix base for it. You could actually get a second hand 3D for less than £100 very easily.

Have you looked at the Babystyle Oyster? It's a really good all round pushchair and can be bought for a similar sort of price. You can buy air tyres for it that make it nice to push too.

4 out of my 6 baby antenatal groups friends had the 3D (yes, it is that popular). All of their average sized babies outgrew the pram very quickly (3 months max) and all of the mums were sad and reluctant to switch to the rear-facing pushchair mode so quickly.
(One friend had the 'denim effect' one which faded a lot in the sun so do be aware of this).
When in pushchair mode, they all find it a bit rickety and the babies do slump a bit. It is very snug with the footmuff though. Haven't seen many older babies in them.

We all had the Silver Cross carseat. We all agreed it was heavier and bulkier than Maxi-Cosi etc but offered great protection and was well padded and babies always looked comfortable.

I'd avoid it personally. Surely there's a reason you don't see older children in them. And if it's small in carrycot mode, can you really see yourself putting your 4 month old forward facing?

If this is the style you like, I'd look at the M&P Pliko Switch, M&P Ultima, Hauck Eagle, BabyStyle Lux, BabyStyle Prestige, Bebecar Vector, Bebecar Grand Style or Bebecar Ip-Op. These all parent face. The Ip-Op gets good reviews too.

Well after all that, we had the car seat tried in the back of my car and it just wasn't stable enough. Something about the seats having too much movement, and I just wasn't happy.

Back to the drawing board...will look at the others listed above Smile

Oh I forgot to say, the car seat is very long, I struggled to get it in my car.

Yo can always ask for more advice about anything else you see. Smile
