New? model Baby Jogger City Select?

We're looking for the Baby Jogger City Select for two girls. I've been searching for a used one on eBay and came across a listing for a NEW MODEL one. Apparently, the seat has been improved over what's currently selling. Is this worth any premium? What do you lot think?!

IMHO, no the changes aren't worth the extra money. The differences with photos are documented here
The biggest difference was the addition of a board in the back of the seat but I didn't have any issues with the original seats.
The only caution I would say is that mine became too heavy to use by the time my baby was 10 months and my eldest was 2.5years old. So be aware weight does affect the usability of this pushchair. If you have two newborns, then get one, if you have two 18 month olds or one child nearing two, then you probably want to try them out in it.

We have one actually :). As far as I know, they've only been released in the US so far.

We had to import ours, which was a real pain (and extra £££). We were really lucky to sign a purchase contract before the new distribution rules kicked in on Jan 1st this year. Baby Jogger now prohibits distirubtors sending their products outside their country. So unless you have friends/relatives in the US/Canada, I don't think you'll be able to import one now.

So if you can get one locally, it's a real bonus.

Our friends have the local/previous model, and honestly the seat IS much better. It doesn't 'cave' under your child's bum due to the board, and it being a bit deeper makes it more comfortable for an older toddler. Our firends' daughter is 3.5 and has to push herself right up to the seat back to get comfy.

BTW, the warranty would be void in any case if you're buying second-hand. So in that regard, it makes absolutely no difference whether you're buying a UK or US model.

TwinkleWunkleChristmasStar · 05/12/2011 15:54

The 2011 City Select with the board in the back of the seat has been in the UK for ages. The 2012 version seems to just be a change in colour to all black seats with coloured hoods.

elk4baby · 05/12/2011 15:56

It really depends on the size of your children really, whether you'll see a difference or not in the seat being deeper :). But having a larger one gives you that extra bit of insurance that they'll be comfy even if they end up being quite big. That's the reason why we decided to import anyway. Our boy is quite tall for his age.
Oh, and having more support under their bum and back is never a bad idea Wink.

Just to add, can you link to the Ebay item. I have seen one listing that says "new model" but that City Select is actually the older 2010 version as that colour way (the Diamond ie grey colour) is not a 2011 colour!

CantRememberLifeBeforeKids · 05/12/2011 16:07

The stitching on the seat is vertical and it looks as though the support board is there. And, as in your description of the differences, the emroidery of the logos is in the same colour as the fabric. I'll enquire about the footrest stops and will update when the seller gets back to me.

Here's the link to eBay

I've looked on some US sites and they seems to have the Diamond as the current colourway there....

I've just looked on the Baby Jogger US website, the Diamond is still there as a colourway :).

I think it looks quite nice actually, for either boys or girls. And you're not restricted in what colour accessories you can us, as it goes well with any colour.
My DH really like pink... well, everything... on our girls. Most of their clothes are pink :). I don't really like the clash of pink with red, the all-black looks really depressing to me (something to do with black being a funeral colour really puts me off black buggies). So our only options are the Amethyst or the Diamond.

I take back what I said. This is a 2011 City Select because of the stitching etc, but its not a UK City Select. Like I said this isn't a 2011 UK colour way and all UK pushchairs have to have the black centre panel and footrest to meet UK fire regulations and pass safety testing. I would have my concerns re whether the bassinet meets our safety standards too.
If you have any issues at all then you will be able to get any warranty repairs done on an imported City Select. With a UK City Select, the warranty extends to second hand pushchairs and if you needed new forever air tyres or had an issue with the chassis then you would still be covered as a a subsequent owner. I had to have two sets of 'forever air' tyres on my City Select, so it is something worth bearing in mind.

CantRememberLifeBeforeKids · 05/12/2011 16:47

I thought the carrycot was exaclty same, except for the colour....

CantRememberLifeBeforeKids · 05/12/2011 16:50

Also, are you sure the warranty extends to the second owner?!
We had a City Mini single for our first (DS) and because we bought second-hand, Baby Jogger refused to cover us. It was a simple thing of the harness buckle snapping, but they still made us purchase a new one, because we were not the original purchaser.

I had a Baby Jogger City Mini Double which was 3rd hand. The wheels went funny at the front after about 8 months of very heavy use and I called Kooltrade and explained what was happening and they sent out a full set of wheels for free.

I did tell them we bought it 3rd hand and they didn't care so long as the chassis number was legit.

TwinkleWunkleChristmasStar · 05/12/2011 21:52

Aha, Truth, it was you who got the new set of wheels. I was asking for another MN on here about hers being covered. Apparently all 'forever-air' tyres are covered under the lifetime warranty. Whether other wheels are covered is still being debated! The chassis has a lifetime warranty as well. Fabrics aren't covered, nor is 'excessive' wear and tear eg to wheels.

TruthSweet · 05/12/2011 22:36

Just remembered it was one front wheel that went wonky (kept locking straight) and the back wheels got loose on the hub like they were slightly too large (happened to my Loola Up wheels too but I had to pay for those!).

CantRememberLifeBeforeKids · 06/12/2011 11:19

The seller confirmed that the footrest stops are there, so it's definitely the new 2011 version.
They have relisted it to run longer though. There's the link.
