quinny with maxi cosi car seat

I have bought this buggy for DD aged 3 months. But when I put her in the car seat, her posture doesn't seem quite right, she seems too upright, and the seat just doesn't seem to support her body, and she keeps slipping down. Her head seems at a strange kind of angle and every time I look at her In it I think that can't be good for her! We have an extra cushion that we put at the bottom so it can be used from newborn age. But she still seems a bit small. I saw a woman using it the other day, and it seemed like the car seat was tilted at a different angle so that the baby was more lying than sitting. I'd like to do this but don't know how! Can anyone help?
Sorry for confused sounding post, i'm so sleep deprived I can't think properly!

Are you saying that you have the wedge cushion in? It should be in for some time. I think the instructions say how long but I know I took mine out too early. Do you think it's your baby's position in the seat that is wrong, or the position of the seat on the chassis?

shygirlinthecorner · 30/11/2011 09:01

hi twinkle, still got the wedge cushion in. I think it's the position of the seat on the chassis (didn't know it was called that! ) that is the problem, I see there is a blue cushinony thing for her head, and if her heads in that I assume that's where it's meant to be, but her body seems to slip down the cushion a bit, I was assuming that the chair should be flatter so she is more lying than sitting but not sure how to change it?

Are you lying her in it so that the crotch strap is sitting against her crotch? I can't see how a baby should be able to slip down unless I'm not understanding properly. Does she seem alright in it when the seat's in the car? ie. Is it just the angle on the chassis causing the problems? Also, make sure the straps are tight so that there's no wriggle room at all. Hopefully you pull them tight anyway, but I've seen loads of babies loosely strapped into seats and I think parents perhaps don't always realise they need to be pulled tight for the baby's safety.

thanks as well as, I think I do have the straps too loose, will check if that helps. I don't have car, just got the buggy. Because the car is in an upright position she can slip down/kind of forwards on the wedge cushion, it's hard to explain without a picture!

Maybe tightening the straps will make a difference then. The tightness isn't as important if you're not using it in the car, but it may hold your daughter inh position more. I can't think of anything else to help you, but if you're still having problems, go to the car seat chat section and ask there.

if you don't have a car then does she really need to be in the car seat bit?
why not just use the pushchair or get the carrycot for it?

saoirse86 · 30/11/2011 14:27

Is it a Quinny Zapp or Quinny Buzz? If it's the Buzz then I'd just try her in the small seat unit (ie not the XL one) or in a dreami carrycot. If it's the zapp then the seat fabric isn't going to be suitable for ages so you'll have to persevere with the car seat.

It does sound a bit confusing. I did have the Buzz and still have a zapp. I have used the car seat on both chassis' and they both seemed absolutely fine. I certainly never found either to be too upright. Like aswellasyou said the straps need to be nice and tight. You shouldn't be able to pinch the strap at all. I know it's not so important if you're not using it in the car but these pictures should help. If the straps are tight enough I can't see that it would be possible to slip down.

The other thing is, are you sure you have the adapters the right way round? They are angled so if you have the right one on the left hand side it'll tip the seat forward.

I hadn't thought about the adapters! I wouldn't be surprised if that's the problem, shygirl. I seem to remember that they have R or L written on them.

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 30/11/2011 16:29

sorry but why are you using a car seat on your pushchair, when you don't have a car, its really not good for a baby to be in a car seat for any length of time, could you not use the seat or get a carrycot maybe, i read a while ago its not good for their spine and breathing to be in a carseat for more than 2 hours and this should be avioded if poss, of course if you are catching taxis, getting lifts from family and friends then i can understand why you would be keen to have the car seat on.

shygirlinthecorner · 01/12/2011 10:00

thanks everyone, will check the left and right are the right way around. Reason I have car seat without car (do I really need to justify?!) is we bought the buggy for travelling, and will need to get lifts, taxis etc. I have another buggy where she can lie flat, but the quinny is good because it is small and DH hates the bigger pram. Presents, I am well aware of the dangers of car seats, hence my post, I at least want her to be in the right position when she's in it! I have moby wrap which I use most of the time, will sometimes put her in buggy after feeding if i haven't got time to retie wrap, definitly not using for long periods.

shygirl, you don't have to "justify" yourself at all. we were simply asking as obviously using the seat would take away all the issues you have currently with the car seat!
there are a lot of people out there who don't realise the risks of small babies being in car seats for prolonged periods. I don't think it's wrong of anyone to point that out just in case you weren't aware.

we're just trying to help

thisisyesterday · 01/12/2011 10:04

p.s.. did you know you can leave the moby tied and take baby in and out? saves time re-tying it each time

shygirlinthecorner · 01/12/2011 13:12

sorry, of course you're right to point out, good for anyone else reading too . I knew I could leave moby wrap on, but not sure how to get boobs out with it on!

Did you find out if it was the adapters causing the problem? I just can't think of anything else it could be. Confused

I always find with my Moby that once I get DD out it seems to all move about and I can't get her in keeping it comfy for me without having to retie it. But then she is 14 months and about 24lbs! Grin

saoirse86 · 04/12/2011 19:45

Right I think I've got it! [hopeful]

If it's the buzz you have then the bits where put the adapters in move into 3 or so positions. That's so if you have the seat unit on you can recline it. Maybe they're just in the upright position. I can't remember how you change the position without the seat unit on, but I feel like there was a button you push as you turn the circle bit. Or you could try putting the seat unit on, reclining it, then taking it off and putting the car seat adapters in.

If it's the zapp then I think it's similar. IIRC the chassis is the same for the zapp and zapp xtra. If it is the same then it must do something similar to allow the xtra seat to recline. I can't try my zapp ATM as it's at the GP's house.
