In-line twin pram that you can attach the Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix to?

Hi,

I am expecting DC4 in 4 weeks and now trying to think through the logistics of life with 4 kids aged 6 and under : )

I have a Phil and Teds side by side twin that I used for DC1 and DC2 (20 month gap). DC2 wasn't a runner and was 2.5 years when DC3 arrived so I mainly used the buggy board behind the Bugaboo Cameleon. DC3 is going to be 23 months when DC4 arrives and being an active boy I don't fancy my chances of keeping him on a buggy board.

The side by side twin is fine for walking on the school run, although I can't get it into the school building to walk the girls to their classrooms which I need to do till they are in P3 and for after-school activities eg. swimming pool. At the moment DS tends to be strapped in a Maclaren Quest for that type of thing. My concern is that if I have the Maxi-Cosi car seat on the Bug chasis, DS is free and running!

All these prams I have had for years and were bought overseas so I don't know what prams are available in the UK. So I am thinking I might need an in-line twin pram that can take our existing maxi-cosi cabriofix but also have a seat to keep DS restrained. Any ideas?

iCandy Pear or Peach Blossom?

There's also the Britax B-Dual, Mima Kobi, probably the P&T Promdnade out in January, Baby Jogger City Select (I wouldn't recommend it though, personally).

ImpYCelyn · 24/11/2011 15:48

I've got maxi-cosi adaptors to go on my Britax B-Dual.

Fresh01 · 24/11/2011 21:45

Thank you for the suggestions, off to google as I have no idea what any of them look like : )

There's also the Joovy Ultralight Caboose (but I don't know if the UK version has the car seat adaptor), and Kolcraft Contours. Have a look at Best Buggy for photos etc.

Baby Jogger City Select. Bassinet fits on in a similar way to Bugaboo Cameleon and there's a toddler seat which sits behind. Very simple to fold (more so than Bugaboo) and easy to see where bits come out/fit on as they all have easy to identify grey buttons. Maxi Cosi carseat fits with adaptors.

Being in-line, it's a bit trickier to get up pavements where there's no dropped curb, I've only been out a few times as DC3 is still very new, but I imagine I'll find a knack for it.

aswellasyou · 25/11/2011 08:52

Pecan, it's not the fact that it's inline thst makes it difficult to get up kerbs, it's the bad design. I've used three other tandems and all have been easier to get up a kerb than the Select.

Baby Jogger city select! Ive had mine since DS was born 6 months ago and i wouldnt be without it. DD is 19 months and she loves it! I was putting the carseat on it until about a month ago when DS outgrew the car seat (hes a VERY big boy). Now i use the two seats and have the babies facing eachother. They have a lovely chat. I phoned round loads of shops that i found on google. I paid £510 for the chassis, two seats, rain covers and car seat adaptors).

LalasMama · 25/11/2011 08:59

Also, have to disagree with getting it up the kerbs. I think its fine. Its a little bit of a struggle when DD is on the front as shes heavier. But when DS is on front its fine.

Tiggywunkle · 25/11/2011 09:09

Kerbs aren't that easy with the City Select but there's always dropped kerbs. But the general weight distribution is an issue and after ten months mine became unbearably heavy to use - my arms were in agony from trying to keep the City Select in line on slightly sloping pavement. I had a 21 month age gap. I was gutted that I couldn't use it any more because until then I had loved it.

I looked at some websites last night. The front seat on the Baby Select looked very low to the ground or is it usually the younger child you put in that seat? Similar the two seats on the iCandy peach blossom looked very close together. Not sure if this is just the angle of the photos?

No, you are correct. The City Select front seat is very low to the ground but if you are using either the carrycot or car seat then the best position for either really is with the baby at the front. You get a good view of them and know where the end of the pushchair is. The footrest is good so a child is less likely to dangle their feet. The current Peach Blossom seats are close together but if you can get through the baby stage, hopefully by the time your baby is 6 months old, the new Blossom kit should be out, fingers and toes crossed, and that gives much better spacing plus two similiarly sized seats both of which sit upright. You can decide when you get to the seat stage whther to swap your Blossom kit or not.

Tiggywunkle · 25/11/2011 10:24

Just bear in mind you may have to order some pushchairs especially the iCandys. Some shops only need a week, and others a month, plus you need to order in store. I know you don't have long o go, so this may influence a decision.

Tiggywunkle · 25/11/2011 10:25

Sorry, You need to order iCandys in store, not the others.

Fresh01 · 25/11/2011 12:54

I had forgotten how hard pram buying is! Over 4 years since I had to pick the side by side twin.

Thanks Tiggywunkle for reminding me about the ordering part. I am due 4 weeks today but DC3 arrived a week early. However, the girls will be on 2 weeks school hols over x-mas so as long as I have something worked out for start of Jan.

The icandy's don't seem to be sold many places, even to go see, or is it just not in Northern Ireland?

There should be a list of retailers on the iCandy website.

Fresh01 · 25/11/2011 18:06

D'oh thanks for that : ) You would think having looked at their website that may have occurred to me......... 3 shops within 5 miles so might need to have a look tomorrow.
