Pram options for tall folks

Hi, I'm expecting our first baby. I'm 23 weeks, so I have plenty of time (I think) to decide on a pram, but it is so confusing!

I've been seriously considering:

Mima Xari
iCandy Peach (possibly Jogger, but don't know when that is coming out)
Baby Jogger City Select, but I understand that there is a new model coming out, but not sure when it will be available in 2012 in the UK. I'm due in March.
Uppababy Vista (haven't seen it in person, just read the reviews)

I was very keen on the Mima as baby will be quite high up in the pram, but DH preferred the iCandy. He liked the way the chair and cot clicked into place. I like the iCandy too, but I like the Mima carrycot stowage system and the height of the chair.

I'm a fan of BJCM, as I love the way it folds down, but I think the handlebar is too low for me. I'm 5'10 and DH is 6'1. Maybe the new BJGT could do the trick.

I discounted Stokke as I think that it is difficult to collapse. I liked the idea of it, but couldn't cope with the reality of it.

The Joolz also seemed a bit more awkward than the other prams to take the seat off, so it doesn't rate highly for me.

It is hard to find all of the prams in one place to compare them all. I've read lots of reviews, but does anyone have any feedback that they can share with me about why they chose any of these prams in particular?

Any rumours as to when the iCandy Peach Jogger will be available or the new Baby Jogger models in the UK?

Thanks!

Thanks Prams

I was right! I thought it must have been a different pushchair I'd read about. The fold isn't a great shape though. Similar to the difference folding the Oyster with the seat on backwards.

saoirse86 · 24/11/2011 21:15

That might mean you can fold it forward facing but it's not so compact. I've found that with a few pushchairs but I have an enormous boot so it doesn't matter if it's a bulky fold.

I've actually only very briefly played with a peach (and obviously not with a peach jogger) but I love the Mimas. I think they're just beautiful and if I had the money I'd buy that rather than an iCandy. Just my opinion and based on nothing but looks! Grin

I took so long to post that there are lots of crossed posts and clearly it's all been sorted!

pramsgalore · 24/11/2011 21:21

saoirse86 mimas are a dream to push and use, but no good for shopping, thats where the vista is better, they are both really lovely but the xari is more eye catching, its a thing of beauty [shallow i know] Grin

Saoirse never buys anything much anyway so she'd be fine with a Xari. And then I could push it! Grin She made me pay for the B-Dual so it's her turn to buy a pushchair. Wink

The Mima chassis' are stunning - the way they fold and unfold is so elegant. I love the seats but am I the only one who wishes they did a flatter seat for every day use?? But then it wouldn't be an iconic Mima would it??? Lol

pramsgalore · 24/11/2011 21:44

no, i like the egg shape, but in white it does look like an egg, but i do still love it and get loads of lovely comments on how lovely my pram is, people stop and stare, at the pram, not my model like figure and stunning looks [i wish] Grin

saoirse86 · 24/11/2011 21:47

I suppose it doesn't matter what you look like when everyone's looking at the pushchair! It's like having a newborn, or twins, or babies who look like twins, you can guarantee no one would even notice if you still had your boob out from feeding! Wink

Tiggywunkle · 24/11/2011 21:48

Don't get me wrong, I love the egg shape too, but sometimes I longed for two lightweight flat seats, especially when both Kobi seats needed to go in the car! But like I said it then wouldn't be a Mima! The seat shape is part of the experience :)

saoirse86 · 24/11/2011 21:54

A Mini Countryman boot is plenty big enough for it so it'll be fine!

Thanks for all your comments. We've decided to go and visit a shop that carries, iCandy, BJ, and Uppababy near us in Croydon on Saturday next weekend. Not sure if they carry Mima, but I will enquire.

Does anyone have an opinion as to which pram is easiest to push up a hill? Our current location is below the hill going into town and we may be back here with the pram.

Thanks!

All three ie Peach, Vista and Xari should be easy to push up a hill. I don't think you will find much difference but I suspect the Vista may feel the lightest?

LAF77 · 06/12/2011 12:35

Just a quick update, we ended up buying the Peach Jogger. The shop miraculously had one in stock in an appropriate colour, so we decided to bite the bullet and take it. I can't believe I made a decision!

I think that the iCandy snaps into place better and the wheels move sideays better when put next to the Uppababy. One of the things that made me nervous was when the sales assistant was showing me how to collapse the Uppababy, after we had been fiddling around with it, and the seat fell off because if wasn't completely clicked in place. The iCandy does seem to be very emphatic when the seat comes on and off.

I really liked the sweetpea colours and was disappointed that you couldn't get them for the jogger.

DH was really pushing for the iCandy, so hopefully, he will be happy to push the pram too!

That's great that you have made a decision. The Peach Jogger has literally just arrived in shops this week, so you must have one of the first. Enjoy it!
