I am clueless when it comes to picking a pram and just chose a cheapy travel system for my first baby, without doing much research, which I regretted.

I need a double, preferably not a side by side as I find it hard enough to wheel my current stroller through narrow gaps in shops!

A few things I would like are.... the parent facing option, and the option to change it into a one seater if only taking one child out (is it even possible to take one of the seats out?).

Any suggestions welcome as I need to start saving now LOL

Thanks :)

Baby Jogger City Select?

I've got one for my twins and I like it. It is long and heavy with two in, but most twin buggies are tbh, esp. if you want parent facing.

It's very comfy for the kids and there are endless combinations of seat / carrycot / carseat that work.

How old is your eldest?
Do you need anything else other than the above ie car seat / carrycot option, storage basket, off road etc? It's worth bearing in mind as the PP says that tandems are heavier, longer and also none are perfect. There will be a compromise somewhere!
Have a look here at Best Buggy under the tandems section to start you off. The Pushchair comparison tool at the top of the page will allow you to see statistics and photos side by side. There's also photos on the Side by Side comparison page, plus a long piece about finding the right tandem.
My suggestions are:
Britax B-Dual
ICandy Peach
ICandy Pear - not much storage space
Bebecar One & Two
Baby Jogger City Select - depending on your age gap / size of children
Phil&Teds Classic or explorer - but look at the storage options
Certainly if money is an issue, there are some fab deals on the B-Dual at present and it's a very good tandem.

Thanks for the replies! Will look at all the buggies you have suggested and that website.

My oldest will be 13 months when the baby is born.

oops, forgot to say that I would have liked a car seat as part of the buggy.

When is your baby due? There are a couple of tandems out next year that might work too: the Jané Twone or Phil and Teds Promenade.
I think all of the ones suggested here will take a carseat. There aren't many, if any, current ones that don't.
Are there any more specific requirements you have? Eg. suitable for off roading, maximum width, particular folded size to fit in a car, etc.

I have a Britax B-Dual and highly recommend it. It's extremely versatile, you could have the baby at the bottom (in a carseat, soft carrycot, hard carrycot or just the normal seat) and have the older child facing you on the top. There are some really good package deals here and there's a 5% off code on their Facebook page too.

Ds was 16mnths when dd arrived, I had an icandy pear and it was fantastic.

Dd could be in a carrycot or carseat whilst ds was in a normal, fully reclining for naps, seat. I could have them both facing me, it turned on a sixpence for a tandem, dream to push, and can be a single! Once dd was 6mo they both went into seats and I have many happy memories of them both laid back snoozing. Baskets great size and the break is very reliable! Oh and handle has loads of heights.

It was perfect! I really loved it. Stopped using it when they were 2 and 3 and got a phil and teds due to different lifestyle. Nothing compared to the pear!

JjandtheBeanplusPud · 15/11/2011 00:15

tiggy I have to disagree my pear had fantastic storage underneath, my friends peach otoh was rubbish!

Baby jogger city select all the way! I love mine!
20 month gap between DD and DS now 2 1/2 and 9 months.
Used maxi cosi car seat when DS was small (you needs special adapters that just clip on).

Now they are both in the 'proper' seats I tend to have DD (eldest) near me, facing away so I can talk to her and DS in the furthest seat facing me and DD. They've started to interact now and it's really lovely. Plenty of storage underneath and on the back of the seats - If I need more I just put both seats facing me.
The other great thing about it is that they can switch seats (I let DD choose which one she wants to sit in to coax her into the pushchair!) and they can both lie down (there are 3 settings).

It's easy peasy to steer (even with the two of them in it - 13kg and 9kg!) and to take the seat off to make a single and I even take mine on the bus and another single pushchair is still able to fit in the pushchair space with us, so it isn't as big as you'd think.

Good luck!

Tiggywunkle · 15/11/2011 00:51

How on earth did you get anything under the Pear?? The frame takes up all the access routes. The most I could fit under was a couple of books that I slid through the gaps!!
As for the Peach, I have had two basket fulls of food underneath the lower seat and in the basket. The Peach basket is one of the largest baskets I know!

JjandtheBeanplusPud · 15/11/2011 01:10

Just lifted the 'blue' seats leg rest and stuffed, we used to go to the market and get a weeks meat fruit and veg under it!
That said I had a skiphop bag for raincovers that I strapped under the 'yellow' seat. Honestly had no issues with the basket but my friends peach she had issues as the back seat had no adjustable leg rest, she was a test driver though so maybe they changed this hand on heart I thought my pears basket was really good.

Tiggywunkle · 15/11/2011 02:15

Aha, I didn't have a hope of lifting the blue seat with my eldest in. In fact when I tried to recline her, she actually got stuck because I couldn't get her upright again!!
I also have the new Peach Blossom with the soft lower footrest which moves easily out of the way, so that will explain that one! Its also got a slightly bigger basket (but it doesnt seem to be that much bigger) I keep forgetting my Peach is different! However if my baby is asleep then I do recline my baby to get more shopping under and so it shouldn't make much difference which lower seat you have because both end up horizontal.

Janiston, I can vouch for p&t for two 'toddlers' so no cocoon, they actually love it in the back Hmm

twiggy that explains it lol. Ds often had his legs up, he's 4 and ft school now and wears 2-3 clothes so by no means a big boy!

Tiggywunkle · 15/11/2011 10:56

My daughter now starts requesting to go underneath any pushchair before we even park the car! She loves being underneath!!!

JjandtheBeanplusPud · 15/11/2011 15:35

I had the same, we'd enter a car park and the screeching would start, we had a rota Hmm. For that reason alone I waved goodbye happily to my vibe.

Tiggywunkle · 15/11/2011 15:41

Thankfully my youngest doesn't argue...yet! But I sometimes need the baby to go on the bottom as the recline is better for napping, or I need access to the basket!
