Phil and Teds advice please....!

After seeing Dsil Phil and Ted, I'm looking into getting one for DS who is 19 months. We've previously had the Bugaboo bee which we sold as it was one of the older ones and he was looking a bit snug and thought a more lightweight buggy would be more suitable - we replaced the Bee with a Maclaren Quest which I almost instantly regretted - yes, generally it's a good lightweight pushchair but I find it a nightmare to push and I walk everywhere as we don't have a car. I miss the ease of pushing the Bee and now we live nearer the river etc I'd like to get a pushchair that's a bit more robust and easy to push.

I'm wondering if a Phil and Ted pushchair would suit and if so which one would be best? i.e The explorer or the sport and what the difference is between the two?

I like the look of the this Sport one and this Explorer one but are they the newest ones available?

Would be grateful for any advice!

Thanks

The explorer is the new sport. If you want something my aside would be don't. It weighs a frickin tonne. Even empty I find it hard to heft into the boot. Laden with a toddler and a newborn I have to take detours to avoid going up and down curbs

Errr...if you want something lightweight my advice would be don't... Is what it should say

Dw and I both love our P&T Sport. I can tell from idly looking that the new version (didn't realise it was called Explorer) is an improvement on ours - just a few extras which have ironed out some small niggles.

Above that in price (I think) is the Dash and the Vibe, the vibe being the most expensive and I believe the lightest.

Sport/Explorer is heavy, but definitely robust and well-designed.

ive had almost all the p&t's the verve is by FAR the best of the bunch,(newest model)however,if you dont need a double, there are a lot of others you could be considering...

mountain buggy swift
nipper 360
bugaboo cam

are but to name a few, what are your requirements/price bracket?

My P&T sport is great if I don't take it out in the car, it's just a bit heavy and a bit of a pain to get in and out of the boot so I keep a Maclaren in the there, since you don't have a car that shouldn't be a problem!

It is quite heavy to push but it is also quite robust so I don't mind to much. I don't use the 2nd seat much any more, but it does come in handy for day trips etc as you can fill it up with stuff. Second seat also comes in handy of course if you unexpectedly get pg again! If the later definitely wasn't going to happen I'd look at a nipper, same big wheels, very robust but much lighter and easier to push.

Look also at the TFK range eg Joggster, Baby Jogger City Elite, Easywalker Sky and Qtro as well as the Nipper and Swift. There's loads of pushchairs out that are lighter but yet a bit more robust.

Thanks for all the advice. I went into John Leeis yesterday and spotted the Mountain Buggy Swift so I'm considering getting that - any opinions? I used to have the bugaboo bee and loved the funky colours - miss the brightness of it and wished I could find a slightly funkier lightweight 3 wheeler!

Just that the handle is low - it looks high but it's not. Plus the fabric bunches up behind the child's head when you pull up from a recline but your DC is older so it's less of an issue. I am guessing you saw the fold too. It's pretty long.

RunningGuerita · 01/11/2011 15:29

We've been using the MB Swift for 13 months now (from birth) and love it. DH is 6ft tall and the handle is absolutely fine for him and for me (I am 5ft6). The fabric bunching isn't an issue, just a minor adjustment and to be honest we don't put the seat back that often anyway.

That being said if I were buying a buggy for a one year old (so you weren't going to use the carrycot on the swift) I would consider the Nipper as it is cheaper and has the same features: ease of use, etc. But if you use buses a lot, I would go for the Swift as it is narrower than the Nipper and P&Ts.
