Am I mad getting a Bugaboo for a nearly 3 year old?

Am thinking of getting a Frog as loved it when he was younger - nippy and easy to push but has four wheels (and parent facing, bonus)

He is 1m and 16kg (99% centile for height, around 25% for weight so doesn't put on weight fast) - and I need it for school/nursery run

Would you - or would it be heavy and clunky with such a big one in?

Cheers

i bought that one, from mountain buggy, my plum footmuff will be coming out this winter for my cameleon and xari, i have sold on my mountain buggy now, i just did not use it that much, but was lovely to push,[too many pushchairs] Smile

I think you would be bonkers to spend that for a nearly 3 yr old....but of course if it's what you want and you can afford it then fine.

Personally I have the Argos most basic buggy at £25. It's the sturdiest, lightest, most foldy uppy buggy ever. I use it for the school run which is just under 2 miles and back....plus all the shopping en route. I also bump it up and down the set of 10 steps to and from my front door. The poor thing gets dog's abuse really, but after a year and half of daily maltreatment it carries on doing the do. Brilliant.

i have a frog and my 3 yr old is too big for it.

but i also have an out and a about nipper, 360, there are always loads on ebay, its lightweight and a breeze to push ( i have dd 9mths in it and ds4 sits on the front on the footrest..prob not recomended) and its still a doddle and easier than a phil and teds etc.

i think they are £150-£180 new but you can get them easily secondhand :)

Oh and to add - my dd is same age as your LO.

codandchipstwice · 03/10/2011 13:01

Thanks - we actually have one of these and it's DH fave pushchair - but it causes agony to me to use, literally hands end up as claws afterwards - but will make DH happy :)

'Troll' doesn't mean 'people who disagree with you.'

HTH

BedHog · 03/10/2011 13:40

Firstly, it's really bitchy to call people trolls when they are only trying to help.

Secondly, you didn't mention your DS's heart problem, you gave the impression that you needed a transport solution for the school run, not necessarily a buggy. 'Am I mad getting a Bugaboo for a nearly 3 year old?' would suggest that you acknowledge a 3 year old in a buggy is unusual.

Thirdly, if your son had a Frog when he was younger, surely you know how suitable it is likely to be for him now? Why did you stop using it if it is so great? Confused

I give up - I really do - and am logging off from this

I just don't understand why if people have nothing constructive to add they bother adding things which aren't constructive or helpful - rather than just moving onto something else - I certainly wouldn't bother posting negative comments on a thread if it was not relevant to me

firstly, she got rid of her frog when lo was younger, so was asking if it would take a larger child, she did not ask if you approved of a 3 year old going in a buggy, you came on here to attack and pass an related comment, so unless you are going to answer the question in the maner it was asked then SOD OFF!!!!!! and yes people like you will your comments really make me Angry

pramsgalore · 03/10/2011 14:05

related should have been UNRELATED

BedHog · 03/10/2011 14:18

I think you'll find it was Barryshitpeas who doesn't approve of 3 year olds in buggies, not me. I simply suggested a bike or scooter as alternative methods of transport, as many of my friends children use them to and from nursery, and OP might not have thought about using one. OP hadn't mentioned heart problems so how was I to know?

Then to immediately be called a troll and told to sod off, twice, is not very nice. And what comments were unrelated?

Think I'll stay away from the pushchair topic in future - it's even less friendly than aibu. Sad

Another vote for the City Mini (even the 3-wheel one). It has a really tall back and folds quicker than anything else on the market. With the footrest and and single wheel at the front, your DS will never jam his feet in it. The single handle is also soo much better than the 'horn' handles of a Maclaren.
You can get a real bargain if you buy 2nd hand.

nicolamumof3 · 03/10/2011 21:06

geez whats the obsession with making 3yo's walk everywhere? Everyone's circumstances are different It really annoys me when someone posts a thread here about an older child using a pushchair and they are just told..'make him walk' not really helpful is it?

mogs0 · 03/10/2011 22:15

How about a micralite? I used one for my ds, quite a few years ago granted but it was great for getting to and from nursery. I think ds used it on and off until he was 3 1/2.

I think sometimes people used to forget that I couldn't drive when ds was younger and that we couldn't just hop into a car if we didn't feel like walking any distance or were under time pressure.

MULLYPEEP · 03/10/2011 22:20

I find the chameleon too heavy with my tall 27 month old. It makes the steering a bit wonky. I use my maclaren now.
