I need pram ideas. Like that's a surprise. I gave my pram away after I had my son as no more babies were happening. Ever ever ever. It was a silver cross classic sleepover, lovely for a baby but pants for my very small and slight toddler boy. My friends with kids all have kids at least five years old, so no advice from them... Halp! PleaseConfused

Bullet points ahoy for easier dissection of needWink

I am due in December.

I have a budget of £400-500.

I hate three wheelers.

Needs adjustable handle height.

Air tyres are lovely.

Carrycot a bonus - separate or 'converter'.

I do not drive, piddly baskets are made of evil.

If it is carseat compatible it would be handy, but not necessary (see above, though I have friends with cars and we sometimes go on jollies).

I walk a lot. Bus sometimes. Buses are roll on types, my route very poorly used during the day.

So. What do we think? There are a few shops in my area that have demo models out. I just prefer to talk to mums first, rather than the young lasses in in one shop who have no kids (I asked) and the grumpy old bloke who runs the other one Grin If you can offer some suggestions I have something to go on, other than panic and temptation to stick the carseat on a go-cart and buy a brolly >_

Home Emmaljunga prams have about the same rep as the Babystyle pleather ones around here Wink If I were going to get a 'proper' pram I would get a Silver Cross, but the bus company here are very very down on people with gargantuan prams. Some drivers even refuse to allow them on.

Time I have had a Luna. IT was wonderful for my older child, but a friend had one for a newborn and it went over so many times it was unreal. Not stable at all because the whole thing is so light! Dream to push though

Honey I like carrycots. I walk more than I bus, so I thought one would be a bonus as they are better for the baby in the first few months.

I have looked at some of the other ones suggested. The Uppababy has potential, if I can find one at a decent price. The violent orangey yellow colour appeals to me:)

The Toro looks like it has a really wide wheel base, and am not sure I would get on with the handles to be fair. It's an interesting shape though!

How about opinions on the following, suggested by friends who're not on here:

Petite Star Kurvi Match?
Hauck Manhattan?

Thanks for all the advice, the thought process continues, slowly!

The Babystyle Oyster isn't 'pleather' Confused

It looks really lovely, with about a dozen choices of fabric colour including a nice dark red I'm eyeing up. I saw it in Mothercare yesterday and it also scores very highly on Which apparently, it's the 3rd best pram in the market according to them.

The only off-putting thing is the name 'Babystyle' which I think is a bit chavvy tacky. Is that why people on here don't like it or am I missing a fatal flaw?

MonkeysPunk · 18/08/2011 14:53

I think the uppababy Vista possibly has a wider wheel base than the toro. However it has a much larger basket, and higher seat.

The babystyle oyster is ok, but looked quite small and low to me in the showroom. I am tall and I like a big pram! Quality wise in terms of chassis and wheels I believe the vista is maybe a little superior. The oyster did look much better than a lot of the other buggies in babiesrus though.
I don't like any of the silver cross stuff since the company liquidated in 2002 and the name was bought out. It's not the good old quality stuff any more.
I would say the Vista is nicer quality and easier to use than anything they make, now. I've found modern silver x to be plasticy, heavy and not so light to manouver personally.
I also dislike the silver x umbrella folds for their cheap feel. I am a bit fussy and a self confessed pram addict though! Grin

titferbrains · 18/08/2011 16:15

I can confirm that I measured the wheel base for Toro, it's 62cm and the Vista's width at widest point is 64cm. The box is sitting in my front room, am eating now before I faint then will get to work on putting it together!

Have not had problems with width of toro except on one particular type of bus where I have to get on at the back because it's too wide to get on at the front. But it's not a bus I often need to get.

stripey I was meaning the carriage Babystyle prams like these which are the absolute pinnacle of taste and refinement in the nastier areas of the city where I live. Similar to the Emmaljunga ones, hence the reply I made to Home :) I had no idea the oyster was a BS pram:)

Surf's here Grin

  • Thanks Truth

I am officially declaring it cool as beanz.

It's so clever and small and a breeze to fold and unfold. No good for big dc's but I can easily see myself tootling round theme parks / zoos with it on my back till need, its sooooo light.

DD climbed in refused to get back out so always a good sign Grin

Shit, posted on he wrong thread Blush

Might be something to do with you lot being on here Hmm

I had this one open re: carry cots didn't ?

Honeydragon · 18/08/2011 19:10

I was going to suggest, if you want a carry cot, than I would have loved a Icany cherry, my friends is lovely, I adore the carry cot. It's a real trooper and again has a small foot print but does big pushchair stuff.

I cannot believe I dismissed it as a option for dd when she was nb for being too shiny Hmm
