Baby Jogger City Mini or something else till age 3.5/4

Currently got an Icandy Peach which I love, but will be looking to buy a pushchair that will fold in one piece and that is lightweight for quick trips with DS currently (a tall) 9 months. BJCM seems to be all the rage, can anyone advise the max age or weight that a child will be able to use this till and sell it to me? Why do you lurvee or hate it

Choosing a stroller/pushchair seems to be as hard as the initial travel system decision aaarggghhh!

BJCM is excellent, largely because of the easy peasy one handed fold (with baby tucked under the other arm and you still walking along - should you wish!). It will last probably until they are 4/6 depending on their size. The maximum weight is 50lbs in the US but it is only tested to 15kgs here in the UK (as is standard). The seats are large and roomy, there is a toggle recline to any position you like from upright to flat. The hood is enormous. It's flat in your boot and sides neatly into a gap to store. I love mine. However I am about to swap mine for the 4 wheel version as I am a one handed pram pusher and this makes the BJCM a bit tippy especially in car seat mode. But I love it.

I agree the BJCM is excellent for all the reasons that tiggywunkle said. the only downside for me is that ds outgrew the backrest earlier this year so we have had to move onto the bjc micro. I did prefer the mini though. He is on the 75th approx for his height. He would enver have outgrown the weight limit I don't think!

LOVE LOVE LOVE the City Mini. My friends big 2 year old does not look even remotely like he's filling it when he climbs in.

Genuinely one-hand fold, get it in my mini, the sun hood is excellent- you'll never need a parasol. It won't be outgrown and i wish i'd had it far earlier Grin

I bought it for the same reason as you- 9 month old, wanted a lightweight stroller. My friends neighbour does enormous amounts of research into everything and recommended it, she got one, then i did. We all totally love it!!!! much prefer to my friends mcClaren strollers...

Thanks for the replies.

Tiggy do you know which of the bigger chainstores will have the 4 wheel version in stock already? I think I might take my 3.5 niece along, get her to tell me if she thinks its comfy.

I have absolutely no idea...sorry! I only know of a few independent stockists. It would be a case of phoning say John Lewis, Boots and Next to see if they have it.

I loved it til mine outgrew the straps at only 9.5months. It's lightweight and easy to fold with baby in arm, but isn't good on uneven ground. Feels like it might topple.. Does anyone else have this problem with the straps I find it so frustrating as it has been great in the city apart from that

MaybeAMayBaby · 27/01/2013 20:13

Yes straps are annoying. I bought the attachable tray to keep my DD in when she got to 18 months. She had it from birth and it is still great. I'm the only one of my friends who have managed with one buggy. My DD is nearly 3.5 and she still looks very comfy in it. Her head doesn't come to top of the chair and I've even managed to get the straps on her during a tantrum a couple of months ago (but no way with a coat on).

Shop around for the best price. The high street seems expensive. I got mine for about £160. A lot of places like mothercare charge an awful lot more. Think I got mine from babyworld?

MaybeAMayBaby · 27/01/2013 20:15

Oh, and I think it's fine 'off road'. I lock the front wheel. Have used to to go across a field when walking dogs.

Ok, the straps is easy. I can absolutely lay money on you having them double. Everyone thinks they have undone them fully but they haven't! You need to have a single strap, not a double one - it arrives double when you buy it and people dont fiddle enough with it. Slide the slider buckle right to the top and keep undoing until the lower harness is single. The straps are absolutely MASSIVE when undone properly!!
