Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle or Swift.....

I'm trying to choose between the Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle and the Mountain Buggy Swift.

I want ONE buggy that does all things - it has to be capable off road - but also good for everyday - school run and some shopping!

It is not for a newborn - but for my boy of almost 3y - and it has to last until 5y - as we have a really LONG walk to school and back - 3 x in a day really - because of dropping off and picking up siblings - around 6 miles a day as of September - so you see - the little lads legs are just not going to manage all that walking as well as his pre-school activities (unless he's going to spend his whole time there sleeping)...

One thing that concerns me - I will be buying "blind" - unable to get to a shop that stocks them prior to making my mind up - although I'll be getting out the tape measure to check it'll fit in our hallway and car boot.

How is the quality - I have a mountain buggy breeze - bought recently in the sale - sadly I missed out on the larger model that was apparently on sale just a short while beforehand.

I LOVE the compactness, and the quality of the breeze - but I would wish for more space in the basket for shopping if I was to use it everyday - it was perfect for our holiday at the seaside - not taking up much room on small crowded footpaths - or in gift shops - and still being capable at the beach.

I am proposing to sell all other buggies in order to get the MB - but cannot decide on the Swift or Urban Jungle - the swift seems the obvious choice - but is the Urban Jungle really that much bigger? If it's only a tad bigger - them maybe it'll be better for the long-run as I'm thinking the seat will be bigger for our growing boy. Plus you get the rear wheel suspension too in the Urban Jungle model...

But will the Urban Jungle fold quickly and easily enough for the bus? It's hardly an umbrella fold. I don't use buses often - infact only rarely...

If you have a Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle or Swift - can you say what you like about it and if it's ever inconvenient in any way?

Also - is the quality good - have you had any issues with the build quality of your 2010 or later model?

I bet the freerider could be used the same way. Looks v similar.

Sorry, meant bet the freerider mb scooter board could be used the same way as the mamaboard by trends for kids.

To be honest I wouldn't. The Freerider is plastic and has quite a low kg recommended weight whereas the Mamabard is wooden and designed for adults.

Freerider looks v strong. Is solid and sturdy (heavy) compared to the micro scooter. I don't know why its only good to 15 kg. .. unless its to do with the back axel of the buggy not being so very strong.
I shall take heed, I've emailed mojo about the mamaboard.

It is solid and sturdy but I still wouldn't put more than a child's weight on it! I would think the weight is to do with the back axle as well but then again as we know British Standards only require testing up to 15kg on pushchairs. You could always go and try one out ;) Let me know what is said re the Mamaboard.

Not heard back about the mamaboard yet. Maybe I should telephone.
I finally got Ds to let me hook the freerider up to the buggy today. He much prefers to scoot along on his own. However he struggles a bit with the width and weight of the board compared to his microscooter which is very light. He is only just 3y though.
I do like that the freerider is easy to transport on the buggy when not in use, and it certainly speeds things up when you do hook it up to the buggy.
It's a little tricky to walk beside on the swift chassis as the rear axel is narrower than the urban jungle, leaving less room to walk at the side of the board.

Try phoning them:) They are lovely. Ask for Chris or Ian and say I sent you! My daughter is a whizz on her scooter but I know the Freerider is too large for her as yet. I saw an urban jungle yesterday in Gap. I am looking forward to seeing the difference again at MB HQ next week. I need to measure my car boot and see if they fit.

MonkeysPunk · 09/06/2011 16:15

Sometimes I still wonder if I should get the urban jungle, assuming it has more growing room, but a lot of the charm and usefulness of the swift lies in its compact and lightweight design.
If you're at MB headquarters please do ask them about lubrication of factory fresh buggies, they're really doing themselves a disservice if they're sending buggies out dry. They underperform when not lubed!

I've got the swift and the urban, the swift the pre-takover and the urban the 2010 version. I much much much prefer the swift. I got the urban as we walk 1.2 miles each way to preschool and we went back to a b board to speed it up and the swift is fine with the board the urban is just perfect. However, it is just that little bit too big for everyday 'urban' use for me.

We took the urban to Cornwall last week and it was fab on the beach, took me up and down the sandunes, up and down 30 steep and twisty steps to the beach. My son looks lost in it though and when he was walking my dd got in and at almost 4 and a half she fitted easily and I could still push it with one hand whilst holding ds's hand!

The best bit for me is that the 2010 urban wheels and axles fit on the swift getting rid of the stoopid tiny wheels (that got us through the snow last christmas when I had both dc plus pressies in!!)

We have a freerider but neither my dd or I can get along with it, going on ebay later!! Fab fab fab concept but for us, just does not work.

Just found my pressure gauge tyre pump and gave my swift a proper pump up. It's even more slick and quick with the manoverability now. Underpumped tyres lead to a laggy push. It was on 12psi and is now on 30psi.
Still absolutely LOVE this buggy. It's so useful and practical and clever. It's also comfortable and luxurious enough that I want to use it all day every day.
Love love love the storm and sun covers too, in their neat little velcro pouches, always at the ready!

Just to add to this thread, the Mamaboard arrives next week and should in theory fit other pushchairs but you would need to speak to a TFK retailer for more information.
