My God help me - only a bit melodramatic and really very long

I?m floundering badly and just can?t make a decision, and I?ve confused myself so much I?m going to have to use bullet points Confused

I think I need a double pushchair

DS is 20 months, DC2 due imminently

DS was in a sling for the first 5 or 6 months and hardly used a pram, but I guess with a toddler to run around after / bend down to / pick up I may well use a pram more for this one and really ought to get one

Sooooo I had more or less decided on a baby jogger mini (leaving the 2nd hand / new version debate until later)

But already DS walks a lot so:

? Question no 1 ? would I be better with a Phil and Teds so that I don?t end up buying a double, using it briefly then going back to a single? A P&T would do right the way through wouldn?t it?

Now I am unreasonably prejudiced against Phil & Teds, no reason why, I just don?t much like them, they seem huge, and the little baby is in a kind of tunnel under the bigger baby, but may be they like that?

I can see it is a practical solution, and had I bought one the first time around I wouldn?t be having this dilemma now.

So?.P&T?s

Seem to go for not much less on ebay than new (I was planning on 2nd hand)

BUT I am confused by which model to look at; I have established that the explorer is the newest version. This can be got for £392 new with the doubles kit.

? Is the explorer very much better than the sport (which I would be looking at 2ndhand and cost about £250 ish)?

? Can it be folded with the doubles kit on?

I was drawn to the vibe a) because I am a sucker and I think it?s prettier b) they?re not quite so ubiquitous, also c) it?s lighter I believe and I find the normal p&t?s cumbersome and unwieldy and d) because it has a carrycot attachment. I also understand there are a version 1 and a version 2.

? Are there major differences between the 2 versions?

? Does the vibe have other advantages over the explorer or is it just for posers?

? Does the carrycot attachment (peanut?) face you or is it away facing like the cocoon?

? Does the explorer have a carrycot attachment?

And the biggest dilemma of all:

? Do I buy a new explorer or a 2nd hand version 2 vibe? (or a baby jogger ? still not entirely decided on that bit either)

Can someone just tell me what to do please? I?m hormonal and bamboozled Thanks Grin

same as me Mumswang-im dithering :)

BJCS is shorter even in longest mode than most P&T. Carrycot mode is the longest but it's only short term. P&Ts have a lot of 'wasted' space at the front and the doubles kits hang over at the back. They are an optical illusion! Lol re having too much choice. TBH just be very critical about how you use a pushchair and you will get the best there currently is. If you don't need to carry a bag or shop, get a P&T. For anything more look at the other options.

Guildfordnanny · 26/05/2011 21:41

Ok what do you use your current pushchair for.... don't just say to push or walk...lol....where do you go or will you go and do? What would you take or bring back? What is your storage space like at home? What about your car boot?

littlebrighteyes · 26/05/2011 21:49

i want double for

. when 10 month old and new babba due in in aug -start nursery -the school where im at -with my boys-is all uphill.....and even my town center -is uphill from where i live-and im not very strong-lol

. i would need somewhere for a bit of shopping to go -as i want to be able to go to shop on me own -with the 2 babbas-i live near a big supermarket so fitting side by side in not tooo bad-as the store is a big one
but in town possible wouldnt fit in smaller shops-but then i dont need to go in town for my food -with supermarket near by.

i have a car but not fussed about gettin it in boot as car small and we all not going fit in at same time anyway.......

so needed for walking-do u think i would copw with pushing baby jogger mini double for this?

Mumswang · 26/05/2011 21:51

I live in a small town with small shops with narrow spaces and often steps up and down

I will be carrying a big changing bag and often shopping

We walk lots in the country but tend to use a sling for proper walks as there are stiles and inclines etc. Daily walks are along roughish paths, but not full on mud, stones and puddles

My car is currently a mx5 so clearly that'll have to go but I don't imagine it'll be replaced with somthing with a huge boot. Certainly not an estate

I never use public transport (none around here)

Our door is wide (I think] and it'll live in the porch

I currently have a bugaboo xamelon which is perfick for us, copes with walks etc. Donkey too expensive

Don't want to pay ££££. Am happy with 2nd hand, but equally happy to pay a few hundred with a view to reselling when I'm done with it

Littlebrighteyes let's hold hands and dither together

I love my 3rd hand P&T as do DS and DD. BUT DH is very very keen on bikes and builds his own. The P&T pushes and turns like a dream thanks to his constant fettling - greasing the bearings, replacing worn parts. You can't fold it down to an umbrella like our old cheapo mclaren, but we have a sling and a scooter for those days.

Congrats on the imminent arrival!

Guildfordnanny · 26/05/2011 22:52

Mumswang I think you have lots of choice - you can either look at a side by side, but if you dont mind something bigger then try and find a second hand Elite or Easywalker Sky Duo or Mountain Buggy Duo or Nipper 360 (but I dont know much about the latter but they get rave reviews). I like the City Mini but the wheels are more for smoother pavements and the storage is really hard to access. But I dont know how a side by side would cope with the narrow spaces. Can you not hang on for the Duet ;) The B-Dual, Verve, BJCS all cope fine with rough paths (and more for the first two). I think if you don't want a side by side, then I would suggest the B-Dual, BJCS or a P&T's souped up with panniers and as much storage as you can on it (but then that makes it wider!). Or look at the O'Baby / Baby Weavers Option but I know nothing much about those.

LittleBrightEyes - if you don't mind living on a knife edge re delivery times, and have the money (sorry I can't see page 1 at the minute) then do think about pre ordering a Duet, or look at the Nipper 360 as well because its very light. You would manage a BJCM fine, but the storage space is hard to access. I got frustrated trying to post tins of food individiually through the small gaps at the back and bottom and then having to refill the carrier bags up again when I got home. The lightest tandem to push is definitely the Peach but its a lot of money, but it may be worth considering getting a Peach Blossom (maybe new main seat and second hand lower seat just to get the adaptors) and getting a new carrycot, to see you through until the new Blossom kit comes out. It's definitely the easiest and lightest to push of all my tandems, and long term it would be worth the short term niggle of waiting / making do when you have two larger toddlers. I find the B-Dual the next lightest to push. It feels large, but its just the way it is laid out - perceptional. I like the newborn space at the bottom where it lies flat. A P&T or similar may well work well for your age gap but once again you would need panniers. The Donkey is very light to push too - but expensive. But again you have a good age gap for it.

I don't know if that helps at all? There is a lot to think about...and I have to say the more tandems / doubles I see, the more boggled I get. I have a Mima Kobi coming tomorrow which should be very interesting :)))))

FriggFRIGG · 26/05/2011 23:02

really guild!!ShockcGrin
id love a look at a mimi kobi!!!
let me know what its like! Grin

aswellasyou · 26/05/2011 23:24

Oh wow!! I fell a bit in love with the Mima Kobi while pretending we had the money for it looking for a double pushchair. I'm excited now and I won't even see it!

Guildfordnanny · 26/05/2011 23:33

Yes FriggFRIGG - I only found out for sure about half an hour ago :D (My day begins at 10pm once the baby is in bed). I will be taking photos galore - its a UK exclusive for Best Buggy. I just hope...hope...hope...that my 2 year old isn't too big for the seat otherwise I will be begging and borrowing a smaller toddler from somewhere. But even if she is, it will be a good comparison for size with the other pushchairs she is in. I am more than a little excited :)

FriggFRIGG · 26/05/2011 23:34

im bursting with excitment, and im not the one getting it!! Grin

i have an 8 month old you can use Wink

Guildfordnanny · 26/05/2011 23:38

Guildfordnanny · 26/05/2011 23:56

saoirse86 · 27/05/2011 11:37

Are you near birmingham? aswellasyou and I both have willing 8 month olds!! Grin

Guildfordnanny · 27/05/2011 16:31

Lol no much further north. But my 2.5 year old amazingly fits very nicely. Am very surprised and glad that I don't need to borrow a random littlie from somewhere.
