How have mountain buggy made such a narrow double? Is it too good to be true?

Our twins are due in September and dh and I had pretty much decided on the Out and About Nipper (it will just get through our front door), but now I've discovered the new Mountain Buggy Duet.

It's a lot more expensive than the nipper but it's only 63cm wide. A single Phil and Teds is 66cm! How can it be so narrow yet still have decent size seats for children up to 4?! Does anyone know the answer?

If it really is as good as it looks on paper, and really does fit 2 maxi cosi car seats (staggered) on it then I really, really want one. I think dh is persuaded but baffled too so doesn't quite believe it.

You need to speak to Frigg about this! Grin
She's got one on order. I don't think it's long before they start sending them out. She started a thread about finding 'the one'. It does really look good for a double, especially because it takes carrycots.

Yes it's totally true. The seat sizes are near identical to the bigger Duo and they are bigger than the seats on the Baby Jogger City Mini. Believe me I have had my tape measure out. The stats and photos are here Mountain Buggy Duet It has been achieved by having a thin frame with only one bar between the seats. Yes it does take two staggered Maxi Cosi car seats - they aren't very staggered, more overlapping, unlike say the First Wheels or Easywalker. But unlike the Donkey the car seats don't add (or shouldn't add because we won't know for sure until it arrives) much to the width. I have seen photos of the car seats on. It's incredibly light to push, is suitable for children up to the age of 5 and has a decent storage basket. If you want one though, get your order in as some shops have already filled their pre order allocation. But believe it because it is one of my top double tips for the year - the other being the new iCandy Peach Blossom. If you want an idea of what the Duet is like, find a MB dealer who has the Duo and Swift on show. Take a tape measure and the side by side photo of the Duet next to the Duo and think about the Duo but on the smaller Swift chassis with the smaller wheels and you will get a really good impression.

The local shop in Dorset called MB for me and said they will be in the shops mid July. She didn't mention pre ordering but I'll ask. I don't think dh will let me order a pushchair without trying it. I have a feeling we'll be starting off using dd1's iCandy Cherry and a sling once they're born.

Do people really use pushchairs up to 5? dd1 was only in her pushchair when tired from 18months and at 3years we've put it at the back of the cupboard under the stairs. Was I lucky with dd? I never really thought about it.

I think to be honest it is a different kettle of fish with two children and it really depends on your lifestyle. If you simply walk from a to b or from the car into places eg doctors and out then you probably don't need a double. But one child walking is easy to manage both physically ie it's hard trying to push a pushchair, deal with wandering toddler / on reins, whilst juggling a shopping basket / getting things off shelves in a supermarket and then getting through the checkout. Also we do a lot of day trips where I won't expect my eldest to walk all day. But also time wise - trying to squeeze an outing between a babys feeds and a toddlers meals (however much you syncronise them) is hard! I like to get from a to b as fast as possible without a dawdling toddler. A double is just simpler!

guild knows best, having seen one,but i belive her and im so excited!
it really is 'the one!' the seats are plenty big enough,it's the chassis thats slim,no 'sticky outy' hoods or wheels, that often make up the extra inches!!
i've bought a 2nd hand MB double urban to tide me over!! Grin

Lol...I pushed it, parked it next to a BJCS to check that it really was that small, measured it, folded it, saw the carrycot on it, gave it a thorough check over and then lovingly stroked it as I left it :'( I can't wait!!! I am off to the P&T / MB University in a couple of weeks and am secretly harbouring hopes that one may be there....and if not it won't be long now as it's nearly June....and then it will be July :)

ohh guild how i yearn to be a fly on the wall at the p&t /MB uni

if you see it,give it a stroke for me....
