I have the mamas and papas Rubix.

dd2 is 14 weeks and weighs 14lb9oz. she looks a bit too big for the carry cot but the seat attachment is only recommended from 6months.

she is getting to the stage where she is desperate to sit up and see what is going on around her. when i put her into carrycot she cranes her neck and strains to sit up, often her head is a good 2-3 inches of the pram.

would you put her into the pushchair attachment in this case?

or would you wait it out?

Both of mine was too long for the carry cot past 2 months (head and feet touching). I didn't put them in the push chair until they could sit on their own (before 6 months in my case) I used the baby car sit instead and they were very happy sitting & still seeing me.
So I would wait for her to sit unaided, and use the car seat instead.

i really wouldnt reccommend using the carseat, its not a good position for babies to be in for too long, its not good for their spine and can affect their breathing,
i would use the seat unit, and put a towel rolled up in the 'bucket' part where their bum goes to make it flatter :)

thanks schrod i do use the car seat when i know she isn't going to be in it for very long. i just worry when she is in it any longer than an hour.

I never used it for more than 2 hours (which is the recommended time). It is not so bad if your DD is strong and big she is more supported in the car seat meant for her age than the push chair which is not.

My DD refused to lay flat in her Silver Cross pram and Frog bassinet from about 8 weeks so i resorted to using the Frog seat in a semi recline...Mind you my DD had a strong neck and back from birth, sat unaided at 17 weeks...Years ago most babies were in bucket seats from birth, though the Silver Cross Wayfarer did provide a wedge to make the seat flatter.

If she still fit in her carry cot (i.e wieght below 9 kg and length OK) I would let her be for the moment.

For my youngest daughter (now 10 months old) I have the babystyle oyster. The seat unit is recommended from 6 months but seems to lie back more than some buggies from birth, We started her in there from short journeys from when she was 4 months old and she was moved in there from just over 5 months old. Main reason being is she is very long and was uncomfortable in the carrycot. She has been fine, naps well in it etc.

She was also very strong. Had great neck control etc and was sitting unaided at 5 months old.

when you say unaided, do you mean completely alone?

dd sits up on our lap's but if i sat her on the sofa she would fall to the side.

*sits on our lap with our hands on her waist, but not supporting her head/neck iyswim!

Sat totally by herself but i realise it was very early...She sat and sat and sat and waited until 9 months to crawl though...We never needed to support head except for the first couple of days, I was the same and evidently walking around tables by 6 months of age!!!

SchrodingersCatFliesToOz · 16/04/2011 06:01

yes unaided means alone with no support, if she slide to the side, I think it is too early to put her in the push chair.
Mine were also very early and almost never needed head support. All the girls in my family where able to push their heads up from birth when on their tummy.
DD1 was bum shuffling at 6 months and DD2 crawling at 5 months and were both the size of a big 1 yo by then.
It is difficult to advise you on your daughter, but it seems that she can wait a little, in a month or so she will probably sit alone.
I almost never use the car so the car seat time was quite small. If you are using it in the car then put it on the pushchair I understand why you don't wan't to do it.
My carry cot had an up position where the baby could be slanted. If you used restraints in yours you can probably pop her up with a small cushion for short periods.
