Bugaboo Bee Plus - which accessories to buy?

Hi everyone,

Having navigated the minefield of prams and (thanks to a generous grandparent) decided on the bugaboo bee plus - I'm now even more confused about which accessories I need to buy.

The baby is due early September, and I've been advised rather than trying to wrestle the little bundle of joy into bulky winter outerwear, I should get a sheepskin liner/footmuff for the pram or carseat instead.

Any ladies in the London area with fall/winter newborns who can advise what works best?

1/ Do I get the bugaboo cocoon for the newborns and line the pram with sheepskin for the winter? Will that be warm enough? And how easy is the liner to clean/dry?

2/ Could I get away by skipping the cocoon altogether and just get a winter/ summer footmuff ?

I've read the bugaboo footmuffs aren't flat therefore unsuitable for a newborn, but I wondered if something like this would be ok for a newborn? www.baababy.co.uk/footmuffs/kaiser-bugaboo-footmuff-bee-bee-plus.html (v pricey but if it lasts 2-3 winters, I'd consider it).

thanks in advance!

Hey, I had the cocoon for DS and would highly recommend it. Foot muff would be way to big for a newborn. Also the cocoon is so warm you wouldn't need a liner. Am thinking of selling mine as might ge rid of the bee plus, since we may need a double soon. Pm me if interested!Love the bee by the way, you will not be disappointed

I love the look of the sheepskin footmuff, however I think it will add a lot of weight to your light buggy and compromise the fold mechanism of the buggy. Personally is get the bugaboo footmuff as its light weight and not bother with the cocoon.

I personally would just buy the bugaboo footmuff,my daughter was an october baby but i did'nt buy my bee till she was 5 or 6 weeks (i had a cameleon as well which i used from birth) anyway she would of never fit in the cocoon so i just bought the footmuff and she was lovely and snug in it and had plenty of room even with a winter coat on which i don't think she would of had in the cocoon,on saying that if i had of used it from birth and someone else was paying maybe i would of got one,but i would def get a bugaboo footmuff as they are really good and you will get your money's worth as they last as they fit upto a large toddler and they are lovely fleeced lined, also comes in handy that they zip off to use as a liner which i think you need on the bee + with a younger child.

I have the Bee plus and my 6 week old loves it as do I and her Dad! I think that the cocoon is necessary for newborns. It is very cosy and keeps her secure as it comes with a head support.

I too am due in September and love how easy the bugaboo bee looks. It really seems to do everything! However the sales person in John Lewis said the cocoon isn't suitable for a winter baby because it wouldn't be protected from all the winter weather and now I'm concerned too. Has anyone used it in the winter months? And does the bee actually lie properly flat?

Hi, I had the bee plus from birth and loved it. I used the cocoon up to about 7 mo and my baby was a June baby! In summer I just unzipped it, as he needed the head support so it was more of a liner. So snug! Although it doesn't lie completely flat strictly speaking, it is flat enough for newborn. Honestly, it's so nippy and now it's just like a stroller for us andi love it. One thing it can't do is anything other than paths or shops. It's ok over well mown grass, but anything gravelly and you have problems as it isn't built for off terrain. So now we are looking for a 3 wheeler for trips to parks etc. But on the whole it's my everyday buggy and I love it. I was going to sell it, but can't bear to part so looking for 2 nd hand3 wheeler instead!
Good luck and let s know how it goes!

Oh and sales person in JL is speaking rubbish, my son was so snug even through all that snow we had last yr!

mamaesi · 23/04/2011 21:25

get the cocoon. that is the only accessory you need. i love love love my bee plus by the way. best baby purchase ever!

the cocoon makes the baby flat, head supported and its cosy than ever. i cannot imagine it not being fit for winter thats rubbish. simply put a warmer jumper, extra layer of clothing if concerned!

when baby finally out grew the cocoon... which was a while as you can remove the head support, then i got a sheepskin.

Friend had a winter baby and he was as snug as a bug in a rug in the cocoon.

I had the footmuff for my bugaboo bee (original version) for my October baby, and have got a lot of wear from it it still fits her now at 2.5. No need to buy the cocoon really unless you want to, it means you'll have to spend more money later as you'll need a footmuff of some kind for the following autumn/winter when the cocoon will be far too small. I just tucked a blanket in with her as well to make her extra snuggly when she was tiny.
