Help! Best pushchair with carrycot for St Ives holiday (cobbles)

We're going to St Ives for 2 weeks when baby will be 3 weeks old (am 6 months pregnant). Last time we were there (DD was 5 months) we had the Bugaboo Bee which really juddered about on the cobbles. So I'd like to get a pushchair with carrycot that has decent suspension and folds down small enough that we can fit some other things for our holiday into our Mazda 6!

Any ideas? It's a toughie, I know!

Put her in a sling? Not very helpful I know. But I can't think of any pushchair that would glide over cobbles.

I was going to say that St Ives is vairy Bugaboo turf.

Yes, I think I will get a sling, thanks, any recommendations? Sorry that's a whole different thread, isn't it?

I'm also very keen not to spend too much money on this as it's only for the first few months - so am looking to buy second hand.

Was thinking perhaps Quinny Speedi with Dreami carrycot, but I would guess they don't fold down very well?

I agree with iskra no matter what you get it's going to be juddery!
If you're going to have to deal with the cobbles anyway but need something lightweight maybe a s/hand micralite with carrycot?

I'd go for the sling personally though.

im planning on using my micralite superlite with carrycot should be nice compact fold chassis is umbrella fold then just the carry cot to handle. Has airtyres on back but still not so sure how it would handle cobbles? Am also 6m pg, we are planning our cornish holiday when i am 8m pg instead!!

Bargain Micralite and carrycot, fab pushchair, compact fold and you can buy all terrain wheels for the front which handle rough ground pretty well but you do need to remove to fold. They are great for snow, ice, sand etc.

If you are looking for a sling then it all depends on you and your needs.

A stretchy rap seems to be the most popular for newborns but there are many you can try out.

This one is good for the money but a little tricky to start so practice with a teddy and there are videos you can watch.

Do you think you will do much slinging? If you would, I'd get an Ergo with an infant insert - they cost around £60 though when I got DD's, so I wouldn't get it if it's just for this holiday. You can get pretty cheap wraps though. Have a look on Ebay.

Hi
Thanks for your responses - I hadn't considered the Micralite, but it seems great! 'Which' like it, and it's not too expensive second hand.

On the subject of slings, its likely I'll end up having a CS :-(, so I'll need something that doesn't hang down too low. Also didn't want to rely solely on sling if tummy painful, etc, etc. Saw a thread on slings after CS that suggested a ring sling or a pouch sling - thought i might try this one www.littlepossums.co.uk/slings/pouch-slings.htm#hsap but I also have a bad back so again, sling might not work.

Thanks so much again. Off to trawl eBay!

Are you insane woman? Grin Going on holiday 3 weeks after a section? I'm proper blase about most stuff but I wouldn't consider it!

I'd say whatever you choose needs to have large tyres and ideally air filled. I pushed my nephew around St Malo in a P&T. Was marvellous.

However, I'm planning neither as my holiday is 'off' for this year as I'm due on July 29th so I've got a Loola as it worked fabulously for our lifestyle last time.

Yes, well we booked it before we knew I was pregnant!

We're going to stay in a house, it is still in GB, so it's not much different to home, really. And I'll have DP with me which I wouldn't if we were at home. I had EMCS with my first baby and was pretty OK by 3 weeks. Oh and DP is a doctor, so he'll keep an eye on me.

Fingers crossed, eh?

Based on suggestions on here, I bought a Micralite Fastfold secondhand off Gumtree with carrycot and all terrain kit for 100 quid. I love it! Much easier to push than our Maclaren Quest.

Aha, considering all those factors, you'll be fine!

I hate Maclarens anyway. I think they're the Mondeo of the pushchair world. There's a bit of snobbery in that I must admit, but also the fact that everyone bangs on about how good they are (Mondeos and Maclarens) and we had one blow up on us at 4 months old (Mondeo not Maclaren!).

The Triumph I had was rickety and had tiny wheels so you felt every bump (as did dc) and the wheels would always get stuck on uneven paving let alone cobbles.

Enjoy your holiday. I hope the weather is good for you. When are you due?
