What is the difference between the Quinny Buzz and the Speedi?

I'm toying with the idea of buying one of these secondhand to use when DC2 arrives in July. I'm not keen on using my Pliko Pramette because I felt DS never laid flat in carrycot mode and I couldn't steer it with one hand as it has two handles rather than one.

I would be purchasing a buggy board to go with it for DS (will be 3). The Speedi sermsto be cheaper secondhand but everyone I know has the buzz. Any thoughts?!

The speedi is a 3wheeler jogging/all terrain pushchair
It's as big as the other all terrains, definitely not for public transport
but then, the buzz isn't either!

JoyceBarnaby · 30/03/2011 13:08

So, is the Speedi actually bigger than the Buzz?! That's not very speedy!!

The Speedi has 3 pneumatic wheels for off roading or around town, it's not too big but not small either and the seat is forward facing only and suitable from 6 months I think.

The BUzz has 2 pneumatic wheels at teh back and a stupid unstable little wheel at the front, very little storage space as the basket is actually a bag that you fix on and the seat can rear or forward face but is a solid bucket seat rather than a lay flat one so again can only be used from 6 months.

II would say it's bulkier than the Speedi.

upyourdiva · 30/03/2011 15:04

Speedi 12.6KG I was wrong it is suitable from birth.

Buzz 12.8KG.

BikeRunSki · 30/03/2011 15:07

The Speedi is HUGE.
I hated my Buzz. To cumbersome for town, not robust enough for countryside, rcikerty, a bugger to steer, crap folding mechanism, tiny shopping basket, tiny pushchair seat, not good for public transport as in 2 pieces.

upyourdiva · 30/03/2011 15:30

IMO there are far better than Quinny on the market nowadays, which is a shame because from what I've heard they used to be very sturdy before they put fashion before practicality, it all depends on what you are after.

Do you need something suitable for walking in in town/off road?
Do you use public transport or have a small boot space?
Is storage an issue?
What is your budget?
Do you want forward or rear facing?

Not wanting to sound nosey just the general questions you need to answer when buying :o

I have the Speedi and have taken it on the bus no problem. Yes it is larger than a little town buggy which can be frustrating, but plus sides are it is incredibly stable, versatile, comfortable, and brilliant on rough terrain.

From birth you would be using it with the Dreami carrycot? This is a flat cot that clicks into the frame and I think it fits either the Speedi or the Buzz. Make sure you get the brackets for this - they should come with the frame but double check if you are buying second hand. The maxi cosi car seat also clicks into the frame the same way.

I found this the best part - if the baby was asleep in either the carrycot or car seat when I got home I could just unclick and not wake them up. Also the carrycot is like having a spare moses basket for putting the baby down to sleep downstairs (bonus!).

We are now using the Speedi with second baby (9 mths old) who sleeps brilliantly in the main part. It is so comfy compared to our other smaller buggy as the foot part is adjustable up or down so you can make quite a flat bed without their legs dangling in mid air. Worth its weight in gold.

We have now finished with our Dreami carrycot but I haven't got around to ebaying it yet. Message me if you want more info.

Thanks for all comments - much appreciated.

Upyourdiva - my budget is £200 absolute maximum for everything, including buggy board. I realise this really reduces my options!! I would mainly be using it in town, I never use public transport and the boot of my car is fairly roomy. In all honesty, the forward/rear facing thing isn't a big issue for me. I like the carrycot bit to face ne ideally, but beyond 6 months I'm not fussed.

Fannypriceless - yes, I was thinking of getting a carrycot. I will remember you - thanks!!

i had a buzz and loved it, i sold it because it was a PITA to fit in my tiny car, then i bought a bigger car,and another buzz!

i loved mine,my first one was £99 second hand with the carrycot, then i bought the carseat for £59 brand new on ebay, so it can be done within your budget.

with the speedi, baby has to forward face once out of the carrycot, whereas the buzz can parent face also, my lo didnt like the carrycot and screamed the whole time,so we ended up using the carseat when he was little (short journeys) and the seat once he was about 3/4 months(padded out a little)

IWillCountToThree · 30/03/2011 20:15

I'm not sure you could put a buggy board on the Buzz, Unless quinny do one specially.

JoyceBarnaby · 30/03/2011 20:37

Thanks again.

I have read the Lascal Maxi buggy board does work with the Buzz, but that it's the only one that does. I will double check!!

A friend of mine had a buggy board on her buzz. Don't know which buggy board it was, but you can definately get one to fit.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 30/03/2011 20:48

The Buzz is more of a travel system, carrycot (pointless) and car seat attach, the main seat can face both ways.

The Buzz is shit though, the front wheel is too small for the weight of the pushchair and sticks a lot. The frame creaks, you can't hang anything off it, the basket is tiny (and you have to buy it separately at a cost of £20!). You kick the stupid bag thing every step you take and it weighs a frigging ton. It's massive and won't fit around many shops, it barely fitted through my front door (a double buggy I has was narrower!)

You CAN get a normal buggy board to fit the buzz, but only if it's got a car seat on it or the main seat in upright forward facing (I think). If there's a carry cot on it then one won't fit at all.

Go to Mothercare and try and get round the aisles with either of them. Quite a good test of manouvering around shops.

Oh, and if you've had even a hint of SPD then don't even think about it.

M&P Urbo or Luna would be my preference.

Apols for the rant. I REALLY hated my Buzz.

JoyceBarnaby · 30/03/2011 20:48

Knitter - did your friend like using the buggy board with the Buzz, do you know?

OP posts:
sazm · 30/03/2011 21:05

i had a luna and it was AWFUL,the only buggy i've had that i can actually say i hated.tipped constantly, qukward to fold, and heavy for what it is,

i had spd and found the buzz fab, because it folds in 2 parts its light to put in the car, and easy to steer with one hand, and goes over most terrains (not mega off road, but enough for the park)the only time our front wheel stuck was when it needed lubricated,a spray of mr sheen, and it was good as new :)

JoyceBarnaby · 30/03/2011 21:09

That's interesting, sazm - I had been considering the Luna at one point!

OP posts:
JarethTheGoblinKing · 30/03/2011 21:14

Mine never tipped! It was brilliant.

Sazm, was yours a 3-wheeler?

I'll be getting an Urbo should we have another DC.:-)

JoyceBarnaby · 30/03/2011 21:19

Jareth - I've only just read your post properly - for some reason I missed it when reading before!! Don't know how!! Very interesting, particularly about the buggy board.

OP posts:
sazm · 30/03/2011 23:26

nope was one of the new 4 wheel luna-mix,denim coloured, maybe ok for a smaller baby,i bought mine for my 16mo,to replace our zapp,so lo could nap on holidays etc,
bought it and used it round the shops once,if he lent against the back of the seat it tipped backwards,so i couldnt recline him,and if he fell asleep i had to hold it up with the handle to stop it tipping back, and the way the harness was,if he leaned to the side,it tipped sideways!
i sold it (for half what i paid for it) the next week to a girl with an 11mo, who also hated it!

you can fit a buggyboard with the seat parent facing also, but not sure about when the carrycot is attached.

upyourdiva · 31/03/2011 10:31

The Bebecar Icon is a fab pushchair if you need something sturdy for walking and it is okay for shopping etc. The seat is reversible and lays flat so you don't need a carrycot and it folds with the seat attached. Not sure about the buggyboard though.

Push me Uno is also a good pushchair if you are on a budget and not bothered about rear facing when baby is older. This pushes lovely as it has nice big wheels and you can use it with a buggyboard with oplenty of space under the handle, my friend at nursery is a childminder and uses this one a lot for her own DD and mindees. It has a lay flat position and a liner which you put in so that baby can face you liek a proper pram and because it is the whole seat it does rear face until baby wants to sit up a bit. Her DD was 7 months before she turned it.
