Hello! DD is 15wks. As the weather is getting nicer and shes nearly 13lb I wondered when its possible to move from the pram fitting on the bugaboo chameleon to the pushchair? Can I do this now?

Having trouble finding out via their website...Any thoughts please let me know!

they recommend the seat unit from 6 months as until then, although the seat tilts back, it's still a "bucket shape" and your baby will be sitting in an unnatural position all day, even if it's fully reclined.

I put my DD in the seat unit at 8 weeks...She cried if laid flat in either the Bugaboo carrycot or the Silver Cross pram...My daughter was never floppy and held upright most of the time so i knew she'd be ok in the seat for short periods...Years ago nearly all buggies were bucket seats ie SC Wayfarer and Maclaren Dreamers and i'm sure most of those babies survived just fine.

The reason why they say not to put baby in the seat until 6 months is due to their spines being put under too much pressure. It certainly isn't a risk I was willing to take and kept DD in the carry cot/ appropiate age seat. You are also not supposed to keep an under six month old baby in their car seat for longer than two hours without a break.

PS...My DD sat by herself from 17 weeks old so definetely no problems in bucket seats once they can do that.

Hi! Thanks all. I wondered if it was 6mths recommended. Well not too long. Agree with those that say once she can sit unaided it's probably ok. We can't do that so for now will stay on pram. (I knew car seat piece maxicosi are good at being clear on that).

One last one; does the bugaboo need a harness with it do u know or is it safe enough alone? Mum mentioned it last night, can't say it had occurred to me so if u know please say!

Thanks!!!!!

The harness that comes with the seat unit is good enough...For the carrycot part i guess that's your choice...I did use a harness with my Silver Cross pram as the sides weren't as high as the Cameleon carrycot plus the pram body is much higher off the ground...I didn't with my Frog as at 8 weeks DD was hardly going to launch herself over the sides.

I moved dd quite early as she hated lying flat. I bought the cosytoes, which goes around the back of them, so that the seat was more cushioned for her. I think she was about four months old.

She's almost 4yo now, no permanent damage done.

No harness needed for the carrycot, as far as I know.

I think the spine pressure thing is rubbish.
How on earth did the human race manage before flat prams were invented?
I can see sense in a baby being positioned so It's chin is not resting on its chest, meaning their windpipe is kinked and possibly affecting breathing though.
A baby's spine is c shaped at birth, and gradually develops into an S shape.
