Doubles on a bus?

I had sort of decided on a double 360 for when DC2 arrives in the summer. However, it now looks as though I will be without a car for a couple of months at least (but not permanently). Phil & Teds seem so much more expensive than the nipper and not everyone likes the "bunk bed" arrangement, and I do a lot of off road walking with the dog so don't fancy a fold up type pushchair. Has anyone managed with a double on a bus, and if so which was it? TIA.

My sister got the nipper double - as it's the same width as a standard wheelchair (apparently), so it would be able to get on the bus.
She did use it on the bus for a while, but then in her area they changed the bus rules so that only standard single or double buggys (with 4 wheels) and NOT 3 wheelers could be used - so then she had to walk everywhere instead!
Check with your bus company what they will or won't allow.
Also see www.kiddicare.com for that Britax B Smart on offer (was £299 last time I looked), as that is a similar idea to the phil and teds - but I thought the britax looked better made - and had roomier seats than the phil and teds (which I loathed as it had a cheap "made in china" feel to it - and it pinched my fingers every time I folded it - and my kids unthreaded the strap buckles and threw them away, and then my elder child figured she could stamp her feet hard in the fabric footwell and put enough pressure on the front wheel beneath to bring the buggy to an unexpected halt which was very irritating indeed!!!)

I've had a First CLass City Twin (78cm wide), a Baby Jogger City Mini (76cm wide), a phil & teds e3 (standard width) and a Mothercare Urban detour double (86cm wide - a beast of a pram) on our local buses. I couldn't even get a P&T on a bus going to the next town though due to the bar up the middle of the entrance!

There are so many different bus configurations so even the same bus company buses aren't the same on all the routes where I live. So TBH I'd have a ride on all the routes that I would normally take and see what sort of size the doors/pram park bit is and see if you can see anyone taking a double on.
