phil and teds tyre pressure

i've had my explorer for a couple of months, haven't had a pushchair with blow up tyres before.

when the tyres are inflated to 22psi as per instructions it's really hard to push, but when i inflate them more the innertube pops out.

is it me?
am i too weedy?
or have i got duff tyres?

i've already sent it back once and kiddicare said i'd put it together incorrectly Blush
do you measure the pressure that you've inflated the tyres to?

Sounds wierd and like there's something wrong. I have an E3 and tyre pressure just isn't an issue, (TBH I've had it nearly 5 years and have only pumped them up a few times so tyre pressue doesn't matter much)it's nicer to have the tyres quite hard but i don't measure it.

stainesmassif · 10/03/2011 13:04

oh god, i really don't want to send it back again - it took over a week last time and i can't bear kiddicare arbitrarily deciding it's my fault and me not knowing enough about pushchairs to argue and then them charging me £30 for the pleasure
and breathe

Ok, so tell us about how it is hard to push. A P and T is pretty easy to push unless you've got a 3yo and a 2 yo in it. Empty it should be easy to steer one fingered.

stainesmassif · 10/03/2011 13:19

it's hard to push with a 2yo and a 12 week old. unless i've pumped the tyres up hard and then it's brilliant. i can push it empty with one finger, that's not a problem....

Have you got the front wheel on locked or swivel? i find it much easier on swivel.

HairyTruckDriver · 10/03/2011 13:31

sounds like you have the wrong sized innertube or tyre to be honest ..... you should be able to inflate them way beyond 40 psi without the innertube coming out

stainesmassif · 10/03/2011 13:34

the tyre says 22psi - the wheel says 35....do you think they've given me the wrong size tyre??

front tyre swivels

well tires and rims usually have pretty high tolerances so you can over-inflate them without too many problems - this is assuming that the tire is properly mounted and that the tire and tube are the right size and profile to go on the rim.

If I were you I'd go to a bike shop and ask them as they will know more about tires than any pram store

MooM00 · 10/03/2011 13:44

Do you mean the tyre or the wheel says 35psi? My tyres (an e3 though) say 35 but the wheels don't seem to say anything. Did the tyres come on the wheels with the inner tubes fitted?

HairyTruckDriver · 10/03/2011 13:44

also worth saying that when we had a phil and ted sport with double kit we always had the tires running at about 35-38 because it was too hard to push ..... science dictates that with these type of tires, the lower the pressure the higher the surface area contact with the ground and the harder you have to push!

stainesmassif · 10/03/2011 15:18

yy, got it wrong way round, the tyre says 35psi, the wheel has 22psi printed on it. i think you're right, bike shop is the answer. dh thinks the tyre is (to put this scientifically) 'baggy'

not sure why the rim has a pressure rating on it but it certainly won't relate to the operating pressure of the rim which would obviously be much higher than the tire
