MIL ran over our silvercross pop in her car...

It was DH's fault, he left it on the road. Hmm It survived remarkably well for the last six months or so, but the brake has now totally given up the ghost and it is just dangerous on buses.

What should I get to replace it?

DD is (almost) two - so theoretically don't need anything major, but she is a late walker and still can't go anywhere at all without wheels (I can't carry her very far for health reasons), plus am ttc so have potential newborn to consider Confused

Wish list goes:

Accomodate a buggy board comfortably. Or seats two in a non-huge-double way.
Folds and lifts one handed (use a lot of public transport)
Suitable from birth.
Couldn't really spend more than about £200ish, although am happy with second hand.

I don't really want to get the same again (although it was a fantastic pushchair, great value) because I've heard they're not great with buggy boards.

Fed up of trying to work it out! Does anyone have any ideas?

What about a Maclaren Techno XT?

LaWeasel · 07/03/2011 21:33

I chose the pop over the Mclaren originally, as I found it heavier... is it better with a board do you know?

OP posts:
LaWeasel · 07/03/2011 21:35

found the mclaren heavier that should say.

BJCM

SecretNutellaFix · 07/03/2011 21:36

I think the bigger wheels cope better with the extra weight, plus the seat unit seems to be bigger.

thisisyesterday · 07/03/2011 21:37

hmmm aside from the buggy board i'd have said a baby jogger city mini

folds one handed, really lightweight, very well made

they DO have a buggy board that comes with it, but the handle of the pushchair doesn't stick out that much and with the board on as well it's really difficult to walk with.

how old is your older child?

CarGirl · 07/03/2011 21:39

I have had many many pushchairs including my beloved bugaboo frog & cam, mountain buggies etc.

However I wonder about a graco mirage, they are very light, fold flat so can leave buggy board on and a huge basket so great for shopping.

There are not many gracos I would recommend but the mirage and the citisport which is similar but much smaller are great. You can only get the the citisport or citilite off ebay now though I think - it's about 5kgs and suitable from birth!

LaWeasel · 07/03/2011 21:40

DD will be two soon - but she has only be walking six months and we walk everywhere.

So even if it is a year before new baby turns up she will need something to stand/perch on.

SecretNutellaFix · 07/03/2011 21:41

The only problem really with the single handle pushchairs is the amount of room available for the head clearance of the child on the buggyboard.

CarGirl · 07/03/2011 21:44

Well the mirage and citisport both have ample room for the head - used a buggy board succesfully on both them as I have on many many other pushchairs!!

LaWeasel · 07/03/2011 21:46

I heard the bugaboo bee's board was good, but now you say it I wonder about her how well she would be able to stand. I suppose if it is in rear facing mode, she could stand further forward inside the handle iyswim.

No such thing as a perfect pushchair is there?!

OP posts:
LaWeasel · 07/03/2011 21:48

I'm not sure about the mirage having read the review, folding it while holding toddler and baby could be a complete nightmare.

One handed folding is absolute genius.

CarGirl · 07/03/2011 21:55

If you have bugaboo bee money then that is a serious consideration - they are great!!!!

Graco citisport is one handed fold but not in the same league as a Bee.

thisisyesterday · 07/03/2011 21:58

ahh see i missed that entire paragraph in your OP where you say how old she is and that you're ttc lol
had assumed you had a baby already, and an older child

tbh i would maybe get a cheapish stroller, and then think about a double as and when you need one.

buggy boards are good, but sometimes you just want them both strapped in, esp if the "older" child oisn't that old and still naps and if you walk a lot

LaWeasel · 07/03/2011 21:59

I could stretch to a second hand bee since the new one has come out they have gotten much cheaper!

My friend had one and I did really love it, but have never seen it in action plus buggy board.

OP posts:
CarGirl · 07/03/2011 22:03

I'd go for a Bee, if you decide you need a double just get soemthing 2nd hand to make do until you can go back to the Bee plus board.

LaWeasel · 07/03/2011 22:03

I haven't found a really cheap stroller I like so far. And I don't want to spend 100 just to have to buy another in a year.

Which is why I'm trying to anticipate what we might need! I really desperately don't want to end up with a double. We do not have the space at all.

OP posts:
CarGirl · 07/03/2011 22:09

Well the citisport is one that really shocked me. Something about the size of the wheels and the build makes it very easy to manoevre even with a heavy 4 year old in it or a one year old and a toddler ont he buggy board.

Bee is lovely.

If you were pregnant it would be different but the TTC could take a while and you really don't know how much your dd will come on in a year.

My latest to walk (17 months) is the one who gave up her pushchair weeks after her 2nd birthday. I pushed my empty frog to school and back twice a day whilst she walked for an entire year. She sat in it 3 times, once she must have been ill as she fell asleep the other 2 times were the consequences for running off!

LaWeasel · 07/03/2011 22:11

!

I can actually sort of imagine DD doing that. She is an independent little sod soul at heart.

And at least I will have a nice pushchair waiting for potential future baby.

Excellent. Will let DH know he owes me a bee now Grin

Here is a citisport just in case!

They were probably the best part of £100 new including the raincover tbh

It's strange because when my youngest was born my dc2 was 3 and 6 weeks and she walked every where and had done for ages as she was frightened of the buggy board! Dc3 was a pain in the bum and used a buggy board for years and like I said dc4 walked from 2 and then scootered from 3 Confused you just don't know what they're going to be like.

suzie38 · 07/03/2011 22:24

I just bought a brand new Citisport a week or so ago from eBay...It's to replace the one i bought for £8 from a car boot, back wheels looking a bit tired now and i just wanted a new one!!! Fantastic buggy, did me proud on a day out in London, this past Saturday...Light enough to carry up steps by myself with DD sitting in it...I highly recommend as well.

CarGirl · 07/03/2011 22:27

I've got a very bad upper back and pelvis issues, apart from my frog and Bob 3 wheeler it was one of the best pushchairs I used!
