Can anyone help with my ridiculous list of requirements?

I am thinking of getting a new (or second-hand) pushchair for DS2. Currently DS1 (3.3y) is in a Maclaren Quest and DS2 (9 months) is in a sling. I want to encourage DS1 to walk more but as we often go long distances and live in a very hilly area I can't just abandon the buggy altogether or I risk carrying 2 children. So I think I need a pushchair + buggyboard combo, but for various reasons the Quest isn't really ideal for us.

My ideal pushchair would be rear-facing, be able to deal with roughish terrain (no mountains around here but a lot of dodgy pavements and muddy tracks) AND be compatible with a buggyboard. Does such a thing exist? Or will I have to compromise on the rear-facing aspect? This is quite important to me- ideally I would carry DS2 in a sling for a lot longer, but I think it's not going to be practical.

If anyone who knows about pushchairs ( I am fairly clueless) can advise I would be extremely grateful!

Sounds like an O'Baby ZeZu might suit your needs? My friend has one, it has a step on the back for her older boy and younger one is rear facing. It's a 4 wheeler I think.

Lisa, that's the longest username i've ever come across!!! Be a b**r for me as since i cleaned cookies up my laptop's not saving usernames and passwords so it'd take me forever to log in Wink

I can't help with the buggy recommendation, but I might be able to help with a sling recommendation! What are you using at the moment? Would you like to continue slinging if it would be comfortable, or would you prefer to use one only occasionally in the future?

lol its normally just lisad123 :) but like to change it :)

Thanks for all the ideas- I will look into them. Sometimes I wish we'd just bought a Bugaboo when DS1 was born rather than a series of not-quite-right pushchairs- might even have been cheaper in the long run!

BertieBotts- thanks for the offer of sling help- the problem is not so much DS2, who is very comfy in a woven wrap, but transporting DS1 without recourse to a pushchair. If I don't take a pushchair I end up carrying DS2 plus shopping and dragging a protesting DS1 along- and sometimes it is just too far to expect him to walk. If I do take the pushchair he refuses to walk at all. Hence me thinking that a buggyboard might be the answer- DS1 can just hop on when he gets tired but he will still get some exercise, and I don't have to push him up hill.

Or what about m&p sola or similar?

StarryEyedMama · 06/03/2011 12:27

Bugaboo Bee would prob be the answer (you can get the older version quite cheaply on eBay atm)

movingsoon · 06/03/2011 15:41

britax b-smart was called the VIGOUR comes in 3 or 4 wheel options will take a buggy board very well made

Honeydragon · 06/03/2011 16:59

the foot plate on the front of the vigour is a great little seat. I've done this plenty of times- on occasion even with my friends 5 year old Smile

emsyj · 06/03/2011 17:13

I've got a Mutsy 4 Rider and you can put the seat rear facing or front facing - it just clips in and out. It has proper tyres, not just hard wheels, so is good for rough terrain - DH uses it on the beach without any problems.

You can get a Mutsy buggy board, but I don't have one (as only one DC at present) so no idea if they're any good. If you can use the buggy board with the seat rear-facing then it might be what you're looking for.

The bee is nice, but it is no good on rough surfaces IMO - have two friends with bees and they are lovely, but quite light and not great 'off-road' IYSWIM. My Mutsy is a proper monster!

upyourdiva · 06/03/2011 17:44

Is size an issue?

This is a bargain and a fab pushchair for different terrains and it's not actually that massive although a bit bulky IYSWIM.

Also takes a buggyboard.

Thank you so much for all the suggestions everyone. I've just measured our front door and I think the only way that some of these suggestions are going to fit through is folded up. Are buggyboards easy to take on and off? Or can you fold some pushchairs with them still attached ?
