Bee plus seat slipping, anyone else have this problem?

I've emailed John Lewis and am waiting for a reply, I'm just wondering whether I might have missed something.

When I adjust the seat to the highest position then put my small toddler in it, the weight of him pulls it straight back down to the smallest setting again. Has this happened to anyone else, is this a design fault or did I miss a clip to hold the seat in position in the box? Grin

It's ok at the moment, but as he grows he's not going to fit under the hood.

Mine does it if there's a footmuff in place...No idea if it does it when i'm just using the seat with nothing on it...I know a few others have had the sliding seat issue with footmuffs.

EmmaNicole · 04/03/2011 19:13

Hi, I also have the same problem when the footmuff is on it. I've not tried it without the footmuff yet. It's annoying!! If you gather up the footmuff towards the back of the seat before putting child into it then it helps but if they wriggle about (which child doesn't!) then it falls back down again. I mentioned it on the Bugaboo Facebook page and Bugaboo told me to take it back to the place where I bought it from but I haven't got round to it yet. I've a feeling it's a design flaw, I'm just hoping it doesn't do it when the footmuff isn't on.

TuttoRhino · 04/03/2011 20:41

Mine does it as well. I suspect it is a design flaw. My footmuff has vertical slits so I don't see how they would pull it down especially.

jennieflower · 06/03/2011 15:40

Thanks everyone, well I do use a footmuff, a genuine bugaboo one, it's been doing it for a while now,I took the footmuff off to wash it the other day and it's still doing it without it so I think it's probably worn and will never stay in the fully extended position. John Lewis have asked me to take it into the store so I'll do this next weekend.

Blimey...I was hoping that it wouldn't do it once I take the footmuff off...I'll be well annoyed if it does!!

MonkeysPunk · 07/03/2011 11:02

Mine doesn't do it if the footmuff is not on - only if the footmuff is on (the footmuff buttons onto the back of the seat Just under the hood), the footmuff back being pulled downwards by child sitting on it does it.
If I'm careful when sitting child in buggy it doesn't happen though.
We LOVE our Bee+! Grin

I had exactly the same problem, complained to Bugaboo several times and eventually got them to send me a new seat unit. Made no difference whatsoever, obviously a design flaw. Its so annoying though and should not be happening to a product that costs so much money.

jennieflower · 09/03/2011 13:47

I just had a call from john Lewis, they've spoken to Bugaboo and agreed it's a fault, they're going to replace the whole seat unit. I also had a grumble about the bolts through the wheels rusting and they're also going to replace the entire Chassis and wheels.

I think they should produce some kind of rubber clip to hold it in place, it would stop this from happening, but sinc they're replacing the whole lot I'm not complaining!

thats good news - they only sent me part of the seat unit (the back bit) so you have to dismantle the whole seat which is a pain. i think i may ring bugaboo again then to see if it is a common fault and see what they are doing about it. i also have a major problem with the harness being far too short - anyone else got this problem?

MonkeysPunk · 11/03/2011 11:11

I emailed them about the harness on the bee+ being too short over our two year olds winter coat. I was using rear facing with both seat parts fully extended.
They told me they didn't intend it to be used rear facing with lower seat fully extended with a sitting toddler. However as there is no foot rest rear facing I extend the seat fully to stop his legs trailing on the floor.
Bugaboo suggested using forward facing with lower seat not extended to maximise strap length.

dinkdonk · 11/03/2011 11:50

Exactly what they told me but then my 2 year olds legs are not supported. really disappointed with bugaboo and the bee plus.

MonkeysPunk · 11/03/2011 20:27

I know I could add on a harness using the D rings (like one of those walking reins harnesses), but why should I?
I think even forward facing by age 4 - with a winter coat on the harness is not going to fit.
I don't think they checked the fit with a child in a winter coat - the harness is too small and they should replace with a longer harness.
Telling me not to have my toddler rear facing is really not an option - one of the selling points of the buggy is that you can have rear or forward facing only letting me know "they didn't intend it to be used this way" after I've bought it TO use this way is not good, and yes some toddlers like to rear face too!
Even forward facing - not extending the seat part leaves a short seat for a 2 - 4y old to sit on, so what happened to the advantageous adjustable ergonomic design? Why have all those inbetween settings then? If it's "fully extended" for little babies that can't sit up - then it's supposed to be pushed back in and forward facing once they can sit?

dinkdonk · 12/03/2011 10:01

totally agree with you! there must me thousands of people out there having the same problem. i have the same problem with my britax car seat - mothercare turned round and said well instead of putting a winter coat on her you should go and warm the car up before putting her in it!!! priceless. they didn;t say that when they took £300 for each car seat

EmmaNicole · 12/03/2011 21:04

And I'm having problems with one of the front wheels - sometimes it starts shaking madly and makes it really hard to steer properly. Anybody else have this??

suzie38 · 12/03/2011 21:26

Yes mine does that occasionally but only if i try going too fast with it.

MonkeysPunk · 13/03/2011 16:20

Mine does if the buggy is empty, or if I have Ds sitting up rear facing. Ie with less weight over front wheels.

MonkeysPunk · 13/03/2011 16:27

I have the dilemma that it works fine forwrds facing, and is still by far the nicest light buggy to use. I do love it. I have tried loads of others too. I love the ergonomics, It's so zippy to push.
I'm annoyed at the tight harness and that It's not so great to push with Ds rear facing sitting up. It is ok to push rear facing with ds reclined, but then the harness feels tight with his winter coat as in rear facing I have to extend the seat to support his legs.

MonkeysPunk · 13/03/2011 16:30

I mostly just want him rear facing at nap time with reclined seat.
I do think bugaboo ought to provide a bigger harness. My child isn't big for age. I shall see how it fits at 4y.

EmmaNicole · 13/03/2011 20:30

I love mine too. Had a Buzz 3 which was great for 12 months and then it just got too heavy. I've got a Mama and Papas Nuna which is also ace. Think I'm most in love with the Bee for its stunning good looks. For the money, I do think it should be faultless though and all the little issues take the shine off it. But I still love it!!
