Foot rest question can anyone help please?

My DS who is 2 has joint hypomobility and is small for his age. I have been advised by his OT to try and make sure his feet are supported flat when sitting i.e in the highchair or pushchair.

We have been using a Quinny buzz since birth and the more moulded seat and foot rest have been perfect for him. I'm now looking to get a smaller stroller (we're getting short on space) but would like to get something similar to the buzz that will support his feet and not leave them dangling over the edge as it were.
I was thinking about the zapp but was told it doesn't have an adjustable seat which is no good as he flops forward easily when asleep.
Does anyone have any ideas?

hi!

DD uses a BJCM it has a small foot rest area, big enough for her to rest her feet nicely,

(i have hypomobility, and im slowly realizing she also has it,so that was a good tip for me,thankyou!Smile)

FriggFRIGG · 03/03/2011 21:02

oh meant to say its also great for my wrists as it's so light. and the seat is really nice and tall.

Honeydragon · 03/03/2011 21:06

Zapp Xtra has recline option.....but BJCM is nicer IMO

FriggFRIGG · 03/03/2011 21:07
its a double in the vid,but you get the idea!

they also do a micro version, which has a bigger seat unit, smaller hood and wheels, and is slightly lighter,im selling one at the mo...

Zapp xtra reclines and has footrest that lifts up when seat upright. May be an idea to see one in person to see if footrest big enough for 2 year old.

adriennemole · 03/03/2011 22:16

Thanks tooloudhere good point about looking first to get an idea of the size. Although he is small for his age his hypermobility means he will need the stroller for longer than most children so that's something to think about.

thats why i recommened the baby jogger,DD is 2.6 and her feet rest at a nice angle,i think some will be too high and he'll end up with his legs really bent.it also has a seat back thats very large so it really will fit until 4-5years if in needs too.
you are most welcome to come and try mine if your near by,im in hampshire.
other wize,i think john lewis stock them,as do argos, and probably some independant nurseys,id just phone around and ask.

Honeydragon · 04/03/2011 09:08

If boots still have them someone mentioned they have a 28 day return policy so as long as you only set it up and try it for size I assume your ok to return it.

tooloudhere · 04/03/2011 09:10

another thought of a nipper 360, it weighs less than a maclaren type buggy but pushes really well. I know it doesn't have a footrest as such but the slightly reclined seat angle makes it really comfy and there is quite a short distance to the solid footrest bit. I have had the single and double of this and my kids at all ages have been comfy in it.

Baby Joggers have lovely ergonomic seats. Children sit "properly" in them - not hunched up or squished in - and there is great calf and foot support in the design.
Baby Joggers also have larger seats than most light buggies - so can easily last until your child doesn't need it. (I could fit my tall 6y old in if needed - who also had joint hypermobility).
Also - see the US weight limits for the babyjoggers- they can take the weight of an older kid without coming to any harm. (UK weight limit is almost always listed at the standard 15kg - as that is what British safety testing demands - so I now always go by the US weight limits when looking for a stronger built buggy! It gives me a better idea of what weight the buggy is capable of handling without reaching breaking point)

Thanks again for the advice.
I'm definitely going to look in to getting the BJCM. The video link showed older children using it so looks like it will last size wise and the supportive seat is also another bonus.

FriggFRIGG, unfortunately I'm not near Hampshire but thank you for the kind offer Smile

I had the BJCM for my big 3YO, it has a higher weight limit than most and the seat unit itself is pretty big.

The Mini City is a lot lighter to push than the Micro because of the larger wheels so this would probably be better for a bigger child.

It has a full recline and the footrest seemed to be at a perfect angle for my DS as it supported the back of his legs and he placed his feet on it like a step automatically which was also great.

fairylovessky · 19/03/2011 13:30

my daughter is also hypermobile, i only have a small car so a jogger (like above) wont fit in the boot, im nearly 6ft tall so need a high handle height, and my daughter who is 17months is the size of her 3year old cousin, she can not walk and can not support her legs on a foot rest because she can not hold her knees up. can you think of a buggy that would help her,

MonkeysPunk · 20/03/2011 10:52

The baby jogger city mini.
Take a look at the folded dimensions before automatically ruling it out. You will be pleasantly surprised. Alternatively take a trip to john Lewis or your local pram shop to see it in real life. x

MonkeysPunk · 20/03/2011 11:00

The baby jogger city mini also has quick release wheels so you can make it even more compact.
Alternatively the quinny zapp would be good for an older child who didn't need recline. It too takes a higher than average weight limit and has a good supportive sitting position. It is lovely to push. Great quality.
Another one to consider if their feet can reach the footrest would be the Micralite fastfold. It also takes a bigger weight with ease and makes light work of a heavy load.
