rear-facing three-wheelers: worth the expense?

I seem to be going round in circles here and could really do with some advice from those in the know! I'm searching high and low for a sturdy, rear-facing pushchair, probably a three-wheeler, that fits in the back of a small-ish car (Ford Focus). It also has to be suitable for a newborn or have a carrycot/ car seat that is. The Jane Slalom R seems very bulky when folded, and the Quinny Buzz 3 is more compact but a lot of reviewers say it's very puncture-prone, which sounds annoying!
But maybe an "all-terrain" pushchair isn't all it's cracked up to be anyway and for lots of country walks you're better using a sling/ backpack anyway??? Would be great to hear from any seasoned users out there!

my britax vigour 3 was pretty awesome...you can pick them up on ebay very cheap tooSmile

One went for £36 today...FriggFRIGG did your version fold with the seat unit attached to the frame??? Looking into the Vigour in detail it changed quite a lot over time.

FriggFRIGG · 01/03/2011 22:39

yeah it did,but if you took it off it was smaller iyswim....didnt know they changed so much Confused

Well your version has bars underneath that i can't quite figure out how they work...Does the seat slided along the bars??? Second version had the adjustable footrest and appears to fit on like the current B Smart version and the seat pivots where it attaches...Then it had the lie flat seat which then morphed into the B Smart.

I'd love a purple or yellow one...If i buy boring black with air tyres then someone is selling spare seat covers so i could get purple...Plus think it was you that said the air tyre one that works in snow...No idea if the Vista will actually push in snow.

QueenOfFuckingEverything · 01/03/2011 22:49

i have a vigour 3 and though it is fab in town it is hopeless off road - wheels get stuck, no air in tyres, tendency to tip over

we use a sling on walks

or occasionally the urban detour behemoth we had for dd who is now 7 and used it for 4 years! now they are built like tanks...

FriggFRIGG · 01/03/2011 22:49

it had two side by side sort of plastic hook shaped prongs under the seat unit which slid and clicked into place onto the bars...if that makes any sence at allHmm Grin

suzie38 · 01/03/2011 22:53

Did the seat have 3 positions??? Sounds interesting as it operates differently to my Vista, Frog and Cam...I like different Grin

What frigg said! Ours is the first Vigour, with the air tyres. It doesn't fold as small as the Jane Powertrack we had for ds1, but I so much more prefer being able to see/interact/chat with my boy! Wish they'd been around 7 years ago!

Ours is a yellow one Suzie Grin

COCKadoodledooo · 01/03/2011 22:56

Queen is yours the 3+ then? Only I use ours offroad pretty much daily and haven't had a problem at all.

Thanks for the tips everyone! Now thinking about a Mamas & Papas Sola or Ultima, they both have four wheels but seem to perform quite well on rough terrain. What a palaver this pushchair buying is!

air tyres are fab,and if your worried about punctures - you get a aerosol of tyre 'slime' which is about £5,it fills your tyres with jelly like stuff so you dont get punctures.

LaTristesse · 03/03/2011 13:58

I also have a Britax Vigour 3 and love it - suitable for newborn, puncture proof, can reverse the direction when the bub is older (my DS is still rear facing at a year). It's really light and so easily manoueverable too...
