Small car owners (Eg Clio sized) what travel systems/prams are you using and how well do they fit your boot?

Am on my first child - getting an isofix as I have a 3 door and it'll easier....I can't afford to change car right now - so am wondering what you are all investing in for your space challenged boots?

Baby jogger mini with car seat. Carrycot if you want.

Ideally waiting for new 2011 model released April.

JimmyChoo17 · 23/02/2011 17:59

Im not due until July so can wait - Thanks I'll have a look online at that...

Google 2011 baby jogger carrycot.

They have made improvements.

Otherwise baby jogger select if you want Rearfacing / option to make into a double.

No idea if select may be too bulky though.

Oooo I like how that folds up easy and has the car seat adaptor for early days.

Just watched the demo

I have an old style clio (04) and a quinny buzz, fits great with room to spare for shopping!

JimmyChoo17 · 23/02/2011 18:06

I have a 52 plate so our cars should be the same shape. My boot seems so tiny so thats great to hear you can fit pram and shopping in....

Am googling that too - Did you get to try any of these in your car before buying? Hoping halfords etc will offer that sort of service

I have a Bugaboo Bee and a Maclaren, though not so much room for anything else with the Bee.

UrsulaBuffay · 23/02/2011 18:21

I bought the car after the pram, used to have a ford ka! Still used to get the pram in. Don't use the carrycot mind but used to ram it in the front footwell :) Mothercare will let you try out prams in your boot as will John Lewis.

:)

Mamas and papas pliko pramette fits lovely in our fiat pinto with room for shopping, coats, change bag etc :)

Also mamas and papas ziko herbie fitted nicely but had to take the parcel shelf off (which wasn't a problem) as you had to take the seat unit/carrycot off this one to fold. :)

CherryPie3 · 24/02/2011 07:46

Obv that should say punto, silly iPhone self corrected!!

MooM00 · 25/02/2011 10:34

M an P pliko pramette fits easily in our citroen saxo.

LittleDonkin · 01/03/2011 22:22

The Mamas and Papas Urbo is nice and compact.

gemmalou123 · 02/03/2011 00:27

loola is FAB, also zapp xtra. I have new style corsa and both fit UNDER the boot divider bit leaving 90% boot free. also no probs with either, dirt cheap 2nd hand, reasonable new also. common so easy to get spares/extras

sum10 · 02/03/2011 00:46

The loola up takes up a lot of space in my boot (VW polo). I take the seat unit off and then fold the frame.

saoirse86 · 06/03/2011 12:46

I used to have a punto and a Quinny Buzz. The frame was too big to lie flat with the wheels on and I hated having to take them on and off when they were muddy/snowy so I had to put it in upright with the parcel shelf off. Also I was using the carrycot and it left not much room really and was awkward to get in.

Maybe getting one where you take the seat/carrycot/car seat off would be good for you. So you can just have the frame when you're shopping and then clip the car seat on.

Some ideas:

babystyle oyster You need a separate carrycot and car seat (maxi cosi or babystyle) needs adapters

cosatto mobi doesn't need separate carrycot I don't think

Quinny Zapp Only suitable from birth with the car seat but really really tiny when folded.

Quinny Buzz

mamas & papas urbo really small and flat frame

There are loads TBH.

If you're buying a pushchair from M&P, a couple of their car seats are really heavily reduced at argos at the moment.

NinjaTurtle · 06/03/2011 14:37

We have a Ford Ka, the Mothercare Spin fits, just. It can also be used with the maxi cosi cabriofix, it's own car seat and a britax one I think. It's a struggle to fit it in, mainly just use the frame and car seat for short journeys, but I guess the Clio boot is a bit bigger, so it would fit better.

Also have a bugaboo bee for longer outings, fits perfectly when folded in both rear and forward facing mode, and fits with the parcel shelf, unlike the spin. The bee also has adapters available for the cabriofix and you can get the newborn cocoon for when they're tiny. I would have gone straight for the bee if I had my time again, it also fits in the rear footwell if the boot space is needed!

I drive a Rover 25 at the moment but about to swap it for a Kia Picanto. DD is now 13 months and I only use our travel system (Britax Vigour 3) for walks from the house, but I'm led to believe from other postings that it will fit in the Picanto boot with the wheels off, and the boot is tiny! We have a Mamas and Papas Nipi buggy and that fits fine in the Picanto boot so long as I take the parcel shelf out. An umbrella buggy that has shorter handles would fit in without taking out the parcel shelf.

I suppose it depends where you live, I very rarely needed to take the carrycot in the car with me as I would either walk to the local shops or have DD in a front carrier if I went into town, as it is far easier to walk around shops and look at things that way! If I just wanted to nip into the supermarket for a couple of things then I would sometimes take the chassis of the Vigour and slot the babyseat onto it. We found that fitting the chassis and carrycot in was a bit of a squeeze even in our Focus boot but they don't use a carrycot for very long, DD was too long to fit in ours by 4mths!
