Tandem buggy for newborn twins?

Jojay · 02/02/2011 18:49

I'm expecting twins and we've decided we'd like a tandem buggy to fit round the side of our house and into our back garden - a side by side just won't fit.

I've come across the iCandy Pear and the Leebruss ABC / OBaby Zoom (which seem to be the same thing?)

Anyone know of any others I should be looking at, and any views on the above?

Muy initial thoughts are that the iCandy looks pretty cramped for 2, and the Zoom looks a bit better, but I haven't seen either in rl, only pics online.

I want something really comfy for the twins as I think they'll have most of their daytime sleep in there, due to preschool and school runs, so carrycots would be good.

Thanks

Baby jogger city select? They've just brought out a glider board that is compatible with it too. It is said to be available in more colourways this spring too.

Jane Powertwin...Jane probably do other tandem models as well but not up to date with them.

Shipscat · 02/02/2011 20:24

Another vote for the Jane here. I had the Powertwin and car seats, and absolutely loved it, and I could still push the boys in it at 3.5 years as the handling was so light.
I was sad to see it go to a new home!

I second the BJ city select. Much more roomy than the Icandy.

Graco quattro tour duo as well, takes two car seats, but is a beast of a pram.

The Maclaren Twin Techno keeps getting rave reviews from friends of mine. We have the single and it's fab.

eeyore2 · 03/02/2011 17:18

iCandy peach? (different from pear)

Jojay · 03/02/2011 20:29

Thanks everyone. The Baby Jogger City Select looks promising - I already have a City Mini single which I love, so I may be biased!

There don't seem to be many around second hand though, perhaps they haven't been out long enough.

Thanks again Grin

Jojay you were on one of the conception threads I was on- congrats!

Yes baby jogger all the way.

Jojay · 04/02/2011 13:23

Thanks oadcb - were you on the miscarriage threads? I lose track of where I've seen people, but I remember your name!

Twins were unexpected to say the least - it'll be dc3 and 4 for us, but we're very excited.

What's happening with you?

Jojay · 04/02/2011 17:51

Ooooh, best of luck - fingers crossed for you. But as I found out, be careful what you wish for Grin

Hi I don't have a double pram myself but my friend has 5 month twins and is now on her 3rd pram, she started on the firstwheels twin, but found it was too big and had to be taken off to move it through door ways and if the babys were asleep the carrycots difficult to remove to bring in.

Then she had a maclaren but again useless for the school run, the babys fall asleep and it doesn't fit through a door to bring them inside.

She then found this.... cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Kolcraft-Tandem-Standard-Double-Pram-/190495547207?pt=UK_Baby_BabyTravel_Pushchairs_GL&hash=item2c5a6b5f47#ht_8063wt_1139

(Hope that works) it a Kolcraft Tandam and its changed her life, yep it looks like a train but its really easy to push and move about, takes two car seat (most brands) with a basket type adapter like in a trolley, has heaps of space under & even has an ipod dock, with speakers...lol I might sound like a sales rep but judging by the recent change in my once house bound mate, I'd recommend everyone to get one!!

I've tested the icandy and the zoom and the zoom is definately much roomier and more comfortable then the icandy. I found it pretty easy to push although bumping up and down kerbs could be a bit of a pain. But, I did have a 3months old and a toddler in it so it was unbalanced. I also thought that the material on the seat units was a bit cheap looking; I tested the orange and grey one. Another problem with the zoom is you need a trailer to lug the thing around as it is mahoosive and has to be broken down into all the bits to get it in the car; if the car isn't an issue, then it's a good pram; with the seats facing each other, you can get loads in the storage basket Grin, and it certainly gets lots of interest from passers by!!

I wouldn't bother with the icandy; definately cramped. My teeny 20 month old was all scrunched up with her head right under the hood and the cosytoes wouldn't do up. also, the seat in baby mode was incredibly shallow, and DS kept hitting his feet on the bar across that becomes the footplate when in toddler seat mode. He hated it. So although it might be good for newborns, it'd only do for about 6 months.

I also had issues with the Jane powertwin, but again it was to do with heavy toddler in front and baby in the back, it felt really unstable going up and down kerbs like it was going to tip.

We had a P&T, but I appreciate that they are for a baby/toddler combo rather than two babies.

Sorry not much help, but I hope my experience of the zoom has helped a bit.

Dunoon · 09/02/2011 13:44

I tried out the city select and the icandy peach in JL with friend expecting twins. The City select was too long and unwieldy- a tank. The icandy much easier to move but carrycots look small and you can't have both facing you.
Surely with the powertwin you need to have both in car seats all the time which is not good for newborns?

Jojay · 12/02/2011 14:22

Thanks everyone. It's so hard isn't it? The lack of choice is frustrating.

I'm leaning towards the Baby Jogger, as it fits in the car boot and round the side of our house, and the seat units look large enough for toddlers, unlike the iCandy. It did feel a bit front heavy and long to push, but I'll just have to get used to that. I don't think any tandem with 2 kids on board is gonig to be as easy to push as a single, so I have to be realistic.

I think DH and I are getting our head round the idea that we are going to have to spend a small fortune on this, whatever we go for!
