Hi everyone, I am driving myself mad thinking about whether or not I will need to buy a double/twin pram once my new baby comes along.

I have a little boy at the moment who will be 2 1/2 when I have the new baby.

I would like your experiences & advice on whether I will need a pram to accomodate both children and if so what you suggest?

I am really struggling at the moment to make the decision.

Thanks,
Kerri

I had same dilemma and got a double nipper, couldn't have done without for those slightly longer shopping trips, walks in summer, handy hiding place door older child or they can sit in there for snack as you may hav to stop more often or unexpectedly for baby, also mine liked being like her baby sister for those first few weeks and having a seat! Got a Phil and teds now but miss the nipper sometimes! Phil and teds better now as dd1 is now three and walks everywhere but handy to have back seat for her to hop in on way home from playgroup at lunchtime, just a bit too much for her distance wise and it's still so cold, nipper was easy to push with diff weights in actually easier one handed than p and t as it's shorter I think, lower handle etc, I guess I could have got a good second hand one though, that's an option if you aren't sure then you can buy something else when baby a cowpoke months old and at least you've had option of a double in those first few tiring weeks! Unless you drive everywhere and hardly walk when you arrive I think most 2.5 yr olds appreciate a seat at times and if you get your errands done quicker that's more tine to play with the children or rest when you get home! Good luck!

Yes definitely!

I think you could probably get by without if you had to but a double will make life much, much easier!
My eldest is coming up to 2 and I still use my P&T all the time.

yes you need one my DD is 2.6 and DS is 4mo.
i would be a mess without a buggy!

ive tryed about 6 or 7 doubles and i'd go for either a britax b dual or a baby jogger city mini double both are fabby!

i have the britax atm,i had too get rid of the bjcmd as it fit through every door i encountered except my own!

nb.i dont drive,my DD would love to walk everywhere, but it is a logistical nightmare to let her! she often has wild tantrums when tired, screaming and throwing herself on the ground, without a buggy to restrain her in,id never get anywhere Hmm

I wouldn't.

My gaps were 2yrs almost exactly and 22 mo and I never had a double. Used sling and buggyboard.

And no, we didn't (and don't) drive everywhere (which is what everyone always says).

Why don't you try using a sling for the baby, and borrow a scooter for your DS. Then you can try these combos for a few weeks and see how they go:

Scooter + buggy
Sling + buggy

If you get a good sling for babies and tots, such as a beko, mei tai or ergo, then you can also have your son on your back in the sling when the baby's in the buggy. There's loads of info on the web about slings. Buying a sling + scooter is far cheaper than getting a double buggy, and will last you years.

And be prepared to be very patient with your son while he learns to scoot...then, when he gets really proficient be prepared for your heart to swell with pride! It's a bit scary for a while watching them when they start to get really good, but before you know it he'll be an expert.

I thought I would need one as DD was 3 just before DD2 arrived, 2 weeks after DD2 arrived DD1 decided she had to walk everywhere so I got rid of my double nipper. However now I have recovered from c-sect and diesel has become astronomical I am now walking miles. Have tried with buggy board (ok arund town) and sling (not good on my back) and have got a maclaren techno twin coming from ebay. I reckon I will prob use it for 6 months and then sell it on for what I paid for it (or thereabouts) if I look after it.

no - get a buggyboard (I walk at least 5 miles a day like this)
