I'm researching for a friend - she is quite taken by the stokke, but wants to know is it stable? what is the suspension like? is it as good as the bugaboo? she had a bugaboo last time and got on very well with it.

Stokke is very stable, yes. Narrower than average, and lighter, too. I think better than bugaboo - the height is the golden factor, as you can really chat to them and they can see what's going on. DS hates a normal height buggy now. He still uses his at 26 months, and he still loves it. I really like that the footrest is adjustable so they have proper foot support at every age.

It's a bugger to work out at first, she needs to be warned - but once you have the hang of it, it's brilliant. Having said that it's very much an urban buggy - it's useless on country walks. If she doesn't live in a city then I'd think again.

I adore mine, really love it, but we live an urban lifestyle. I have a bad back as well so the adjustable height of the handle and the lack of bending to tend to the child matters. I have a Silver Cross POP for holidays that I just lent out and never use, as it knackers my back royally. You can walk straightbacked and steer with one hand with a Stokke. Really good buggy. Worked from birth and at every age since. The high chair function is also a godsend.

mmm just wondering why you say its no good other than in the city - is the suspension good? thats one reason she loved the bug, as she said every other pushchair made her teeth rattle she could feel every piece of grit, whereas the bug was smooth, and whats smooth for her was smooth for baby.
I can see that the wheels would be hopeless off road, but then again bugaboo arent too cracking in deep mud.

The wheels. I think the suspension is fine, but the small wheels are useless in severe mud or pebbly terrain. I'm comparing it with the buggy my mother got for him for her own use, though, which is a Mountain Buggy terrain pro (fixed wheels, extra thick ones customised for serious hill walking - yes, she is a proud, rural, and slightly precious granny!). That's a bugger in cities as the fixed wheels have almost no manuverability, but a gift in the country.

Best option is to try both in-store if she's near any shops that offer that choice. Frankly if she has a bugaboo already that would sway it for me - I'd not buy another for my second when I have a Stokke already.
