phil and teds doubles- unfair on the child below?
krisskross · 10/11/2010 20:02
we have a traditional double buggy.
I didnt get a P and T first time round beacuse DC had not started walking when DC2 was born so i knew he'd be in pram loads and it didnt seem fair to have one of them below with restricted view. Also, I liked the idea of them sitting next to each other.
Now 16 months later things have changed and am thinking of getting a phil and teds second hand. DC1 still uses the pram a fair bit and i am still wondering if its mean to stick one of them underneath?

None of the children I have seen in them appear to mind!
LadyOfTheFlowers · 10/11/2010 20:34
None of mine ever minded. Sometimes the back seat was fought over.
Quite handy for a small toddler who can't walk far to hop in and out of.
rodformyownback · 10/11/2010 20:37
My niece and nephew fight over who will go underneath!
The one underneath can stick his head out to the side like a big dog out the car window. Plus his feet go in the shopping basket so he has easy access to the snacks...

No complaints from DS2 here. Children can quite like "hiding" under things - you only have to see them with a cardboard box.
We had no room in the car, house or narrow streets round here for any other kind of double so it had to be put up with anyway. The fact it's easy to push and manoeuvre made the difference for me - remember you are a buggy user too so it's a 3-way compromise .

Mine preferred the front seat but they would still rather go in the bottom seat than walk even when they were well capable of walking! So I figure it can't be that bad.
sazm · 10/11/2010 22:04
my lo MUCH prefers the back seat, quite often the front is empty lol!
mel2005 · 11/11/2010 15:08
my twins take it in turns in the back seat, they dont mind, i have the explorer now but when we had the sport and e3 they hated the back seat but they are basically the same. its only my car buggy as i have a mountain buggy for the school run etc. if you have a baby and toddler its great because one can pop in and out of the back seat (i had one when my older two were in a buggy)
Poogles · 11/11/2010 15:24
DS1 always wanted to go in the back - he only really hopped in when he was tired and wanted a nap. Seemed unfair to put DS2 in the back if the front was likely to be empty.
My nephew (same age as DS1) would always climb into the back seat if he was around and would get upset if anyone suggetse the front!

My DCs hated the back seat on our Vibe. Whichever one of them I put in there screamed blue murder.
Also if your toddler is hopping in and out you can have problems balancing the buggy. My eldest is quite a lot heavier than my youngest so needed to go in the front for the buggy to balance probably - this meant that every time he got out I had to switch my youngest into the front (or put a heavy bag in instead) to avoif the whole thing toppling over backwards.
If your DC1 is walking quite a bit have a look at a sit 'n' stand type buggy. We have this www.joovy.com/pages/pd_cabooseultralight.php and love it. It is much better than either my side by side double or the P&T and my DS loves it (much cheaper than a P&T too)

i used the sport daily for 6m for my then 13m old and my 2.5yr old. My older child used the back seat, could see fine out of the sides. he loved it anyways, and of course much preferred to walking esp over the winter.
