best lighter-weight pushchair after quinny buzz...

well as per title really

DD is 6 months and seems to much prefer being forward facing, probably due to the amount of time spent in her baby bjorn.... I was very excited to choose pram, spent a fortune on buzz 3, bought dreami etc and to be honest she has been in dreami TWICE, and has never seemed that keen on the whole pram thing.

BUT my back cannot take carrying her for much longer so I have convinced DH we need a pushchair- have tried her in the buggy bit of the quinny and she seems to like it, but I am sick of the weight and bulkiness of the quinny... mclaren seems to be popular, what are peoples thoughts??

We had a quinny buzz (2006 version) - traded it in for a maclaren quest and love my maclaren, its so light and versatile (though forward facing only) after the buzz.

I love the baby jogger city mini. Folds up small in a second. Look up the video on you tube to see! If you get the matching baby jogger footmuff it's waterproof so you don't need the raincover. The fleece lining in the footmuff can be zipped out for warmer weather. The top can be zipped off to leave the base as a liner. The hood on the babyjogger can be pulled right forward to make a fab sunshade or to make it dark for a sleep. The basket beneath is really big. There is also a basket at the rear of the seat. You can add a bumper bar or play tray too. Baby jogger are much better quality and value than Maclaren in my opinion having owned several models from each brand after four children. I definately recommend baby jogger to my friends. All the comforts of a larger pushchair with the lightness and convenience of a smaller stroller. Got to love the handlebar on the babyjogger for comfort. Love the durable rubber grip. Doesn't make your hands soggy when pushing it in the rain like foam handles do!

look for the boots promotional code thread on this board. You can get an extra ten percent off their offer price. So £161.99 and if your a member of the boots parenting club or you join before you order you can get £25 of boots points for your advantage card too. The footmuff is cheapest at www.Kiddicare.com and they deliver fast and free. Is worth every penny and likewise said you won't need the raincover if you have it.

Another vote for the Baby Jogger City Mini - I love mine Smile

oh okay- I think one of my friends has the baby jogger city mini and to be honest though I liked it I didn't think it looked light weight at all!!

would you say this is a better buy than something like the mclaren xt??

thanks for all the comments by the way!

You'd never regret a Maclaren xt. Haven't used the BJCM but think anything would seem lightweight compared to that Quinny!

Have you also thought about trying a better sling? There are many different kinds that are quite supportive--you can carry much heavier babies!! Try a mei tai like the napsack or a soft structured carrier like the ergo.

sickoftheholidays · 15/10/2010 20:49

the bjcm weighs HALF as much as the buzz. to be honest, most pushchairs are lighter than the quinny buzz...... its only lighweight without the wheels and chassis, with the whole lot on it weighs 13kg, which is pretty heavy in my book.

The Mac XT isn't all that light - and the seat is not so ergonomic as that on the Babyjogger - they really can't relax so well in it - I did have a Mac XT - it wouldn't fit in the boot of our Zafira (all seats up) so it wasn't all that compact either. The babyjogger city mini will (if you quickly pop the wheels off which takes only seconds!).
I did regret my Mac XT - my child was not comfy in it - the pull out leg rest was "flimsy" and bent out of shape. The hood did not "darken" the seat that well for naps - the two handed recline (which I had to crouch behind the buggy to reach) wasn't "all that". I found the handles uncomfortable as a lot of the paths I use have a "camber" (they slope towards the fences/hedges) so I have to correct the steering - so much easier and less strain to my back with a one piece handlebar...these are possibly just my preferences - but truly I think children sit more comfortably in the babyjogger.

Maclaren have a habit of publishing the weights of their buggies < minus the hood and basket weight > so be aware of that when comparing weights of different buggies!
The XT is advertised as 6.8kg (without hood basket or raincover) - so at least 7.5kg - probably with the hood and basket

  • and the baby jogger city mini is 7.7kg - so very similar in weight - they both fold small - but I find I can fit the city mini in all my mates cars but the Mac XT wouldn't fit in all boots due to it's long length (even with the handles at reduced height!).

I do agree - the Babyjogger city mini has a more robust look to it - so it's easy to believe it could weigh more - it really is much lighter than it looks and does fold amazingly compactly for a pram that looks "full size" when in use! Wink

The wheels on the baby jogger city mini have sealed ball bearing units - and they do push along amazingly smoothly - especially compared to the maclaren!

I can acess the basket on the city mini really easily and it will hold loads - it's also far better made - and much stronger than the net baskets on the maclaren (that will snag after you put a few library books or some food packaged with "sharpish" edges in it)! The back of seat basket is also fantastic on the city mini - for keeping baby's hat or blanket to hand - or putting anything you'll need handy in it (wipes?!).

Try to get to a shop that sells both - view them side by side - feel them - look at the fabric quality - sit your child in - and see how comfy they are to make your own comparison.

For a more practical but easy to use sling - you could look at www.connectababy.com too.

Really comfortable.

Baby jogger city mini fani here

Scarlett175 · 16/10/2010 18:46

thanks for all the opinions, I honestly would never have considered BJCM before coming on here so its been very insightful...just convinced DH we need to go looky next weekend as we are away on hols in Dec and I want to buy before then....

plus had such a nightmare today in a carpark, struggling with the buggy bit of the buzz, plus the frame in my tiny clio boot, only to realise didn't have the right attachments on the frame :( the frame actually fell on me springing up in the process!!

honestly the crazy decisions us new mums make. I was so preoccupied with the look of the pram I don't think I ever considered the weight or size of the bloody thing. Til I nearly got flattened by it, flying out the boot!!

so hopefully can demo the baby jogger and have a easier experience....will keep you posted.

Have a look at john lewis. If you want one though buy from boots. My heavy 3yo is so easy to push in it
