Has anyone used one of these for flying? Is it worth getting one? And if I see one without wheels on ebay, is it a fake???

Def. worth buying. The ones without wheels are the earlier models, they are cheaper. To be honest, the wheels arent that useful, as if you are pushing your baby (and carrying the bag over shoulder, its very light when empty) you wont be putting the pushchair in until last minute, then handing it to the gate staff as you board, so you wont be wheeling it as such. If you are checking it in as luggage, then you will want the wheeled version as you will be lugging it ready packed up.

Thanks for explaining that about the wheels - I have just bought a wheeled one on ebay, am hoping to carry him onto plane in a sling and check the buggy in - one less thing to worry about. Thanks for your help.

Probably not what you want to hear- but Iwouldn't bother with the bag.
Checked in my bug in a travel bag last year and the bag and buggy both got totally trashed. The bag is massive and heavy and I think the handlers find it a total pain. We didn't know that you have to report damaged baggage there and then at the airport as it is an airline issue so lost out as neither airine nor traveinsurance would do anything once we had lest the airport. Now have a very bent bug cam.
This year we bought a lightweight Maclaren (cost about the same as the Bugaboo bag) and took it to the steps of the plane. It was so much better and was straight in and out of the hold so very little chance of damage. If I ever fly with thre Bug again I won't bother with the bag or checking it in

hmm, see what you are saying rightsaidfred, but you probably had an exceptionally bad experience. I personally would not travel any pushchair without a travel bag on a plane, as I have had 2 out of 5 trashed now.
I dont think the size or weight of the bag is an issue certainly, its smaller and lighter than most suitcases which are checked in, so that really doesnt affect things. The main problem is that when you check baggage in, suitcases etc get landed on top of it in the truck on the way to the aircraft, then it gets chucked in the hold, then more cases land on it, then it gets taken off the other end and chucked in another truck.... well you can see how they get damaged.

oh, and yes, I would def. be in favour of pushing all the way to the steps of the plane/departure gate. That way the chance of damage is much less, as it goes on top of everything, and comes off first.

Are you talking about the Bee or the Cameleon bag? Ours was the Cameleon and the bag was massive- almost twice the size of our suitcase and very unwieldy.

sickoftheholidays · 30/09/2010 17:46

clearly I have very large suitcases then LOL
I admit it wasnt the easiest to carry around, but better than than get a scratch on my beloved bug............

We had the bag for our Cameleon, mainly because it was off-white but also because we didn't know if we could check in a 2 piece pram (we could have).

It worked well, took up less space in our car and hire car at the other end and kept it all clean and in good nick.

Used a sling at the airport when DD was wee which was much easier than in and out of the pram and mean no faffing getting on and off the plane. Definitely recommend sling as long as poss.

We also bought a Bee+ when DD was about 15m. Decided not to get the bag for it; it's black so less prone to general scuffs and thought we'll take a chance on it getting damaged rather than spend more ££ on a BB bag. So far so good, have flown 4 times in the past 7 months with her and either checked it in or taken it to steps of plane every time and all good so far.

I think it's worth buying for a Cameleon TBH. You can always sell in the future and recoup a bit; I think when your pram costs that much it's worth protecting.
