Newborn - what to use instead of travel system????

I really don't have the ££ to spend a lot on a travel system for this next baby.

With DD I was given a 2nd hand Pilko M&P travel system which was fab. I picked up carrycot to fit it on ebay & it all worked really well until I give it all away and switched to a McLaren Techno when DD was age about 9 months.

We still have McLaren in great order but I can't see how it would be suitable for a newborn.

If you don't buy an expensive all singing/dancing travel system what are the options for a new baby??? I'm thinking 0-6 months? DD will be nearly 3.5 when baby comes so there's no need for a double.

what is your budget? have you looked on ebay?

ImWithStupid · 27/09/2010 20:49

What type of MacLaren have you got?

We have the Techno XLR which has the lie flat option for a newborn, think the Techno XT is lie flat too. We used this and DD is nice and snug in it.

You can get a pliko for peanuts on ebay second hand, def. go for the smooth wheel version though, the chassis are much better than the previous version. You can get a full travel system for a lot less than £100 if you wait for the right one to come up.

Thanks everyone - yes I will look on ebay closer to the time for 2nd hand travel system if I have to - but I was curious to know about other options & surely not everyone buys a travel system?

I'll check what McLaren Techno we have - it does lie flat though (if there's not too much loaded into the shopping basket). I just couldn't imagine a young baby in there, but with the snuggly thing you suggested Imwith plus the sling/front pack (which I'm about to use most for very young baby I guess) that might be a good combination.

I must admit the Pilko carrycot (navarto?) was marvellous. I used it as DD's daybed & just clicked her into pram when I was ready & off we went.

fmm - we have the xlr and have used it from birth with no problems at all, wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Thinking about it, John Lewis recommended the xt too but we went with the xlr for the travel system option as I needed it for trains when being picked up. My MIL got a 2nd hand m&p P3 and by comparison the xlr (I no doubt the xt) is a synch to manouevre.

when you say 'travel system' what exactly are your requirements? your needs?

the xt would be fine for a newborn especially with sheepskin or nice cosy footmuff.

You can get a little carrycot for Technos but no idea if it fits all models...Saw one being pushed for the first time yesterday.

fits on the xlr only does look nice tho.
