Hi, I need a pushchair for my 18 month old, we live in the country, lots of muddy paths etc and are 5'10'' and 6'4", I've had a bad back partly due to pushing buggies that are too low. Looking for something not too heavy, and preferably obtainable second hand. Any ideas anyone?
Thanks for reading!

Well, the baby jogger summit is a great option for your needs (not sure how available they are 2nd hand) and are not too expensive brand new (as seriously good off-road prams go). The handbrake gives you much more control and is great news for a bad back, as are the 16" rear wheels. It's lighter than a mountain buggy. The wheels are very quick release so you can break down your buggy into sections for lifting in and out the car (and it won't take long at all to reassemble - just seconds).
The handlebar is tall and also - the baby sits quite high up - so you won't have to stoop to see to them.

The all round suspension is fantastic - and also saves you receiving the "jolts" up your arms (which can also pain a bad back).
So - it's main advantages, aside from being fantastic offroad are: Tall handlebar, Handbrake (to control speed and for easy stopping without straining the back at all), and all round suspension - which cusions no only baby - but you from any jarring or jolts on rough ground, and lastly the very large rear wheels which make going over rough obstacles a breeze (uneven terrain off road - and stupidly tall kerbs in an urban environment) - which makes less work for your arms/torso - again protecting your back. Wink

I'm 6 foot and have had an urban detour from mothercare (well ebay!) and currently have very old quinny 3xl. Both have height adjustable handles and can cope with off road

Thanks very much both of you. Trawling through ebay! If the babyjogger seat is high up does that reduce headroom? My children are also tall for their age! In case anyone with the same problem comes across this, I found out yesterday that you can buy longer handles for a Micralite which we have already, it's not bad off road but I imagine a 3 wheeler could be better.

No - there's loads of headroom in the babyjogger - it's got a very big seat and plenty of headroom.

The micralite does some light off-road well - but - would become unstable on very rough ground as the rear wheels are close together and most of the weight is transferred to these rear wheels. Yes the longer handles help with this issue - as it gives you more leverage to balance the pushchair yourself.
The micralite is great with their off-road wheel kit (ATK) for the front wheels - but sadly micralite have stopped selling these - so you'll have to keep a close eye on ebay to get some 2nd hand. The 3 wheelers are better for serious off-road stuff IMO all things considered.

I think our micralite's too old to fit the ATK, I looked into it a while back, and yes generally on rough ground, snow etc we end up pushing it on the back wheels alone. Do love how light it is though.

The wheels have to have a red dot in the center for it to fit the all terrain (front wheel) kit (ATK).

No dot but micralite suggested it might be worth trying one, never been able to see one to try though
