I kno this is wrong section but what age would you all put your babies in a bed, im thinking of putting my 14month old into his junior bed, as i want to put my 5month old into his cot, shes tiny but kicks her self to other end of moses basket, ive got a bed rail for him & a stairgate for his room, whats your opinions ? ?

My DD1 went in at 20months when the new baby came. I would say give it a go, DD1 slept in a bed at 16months on holiday and loved it.

I put DD1 in a junior bed with rail at 10 months, she developed a hatred of her cot but would happily fall asleep anywhere else.

DD2 was 3 yrs , she was so tiny I never gave it much thought.

With the rail and stair gate, and nothing in the room that could cause harm, I don't see any problem.

I find it so much easier to do bed time and story with a proper bed.

you can but try! Might actually be easier to keep them in it at that age?

dd went into hers at 20mo because she all of a sudden decided that she was toilet trained and therefore had to be able to go to the loo at night herself. She was really teeny for her age and she couldn't even climb up to a normal single so we got the junior bed for her - she's 4 and still using it. Never needed a bed rail, our junior bed had sides on it at the head end, like this

was about to say (too enthusiastic with my pressing of 'post')Blush
Go for it. It will make him feel a bit more grown up without taking a big risk. He'll be fine, imho. We still have the stair gate on - be prepared to make it a long-term fixture Wink

Thanks for ur quick replies.

He knows the right way to climb off bed/sofa, i just think it makes more sense as our junior bed matches nedroom furiture & the cotbed doesnt. I really wanted to try this & the HV said go for it but last few days ive been thinking he doesnt sit still for longer than a minute & i tried to sleep him in my bed but just wanted to run around typical boy. I think im guna try it for a week if no joy then will have to buy another cotbed

don't dump it after a week if it doesn't work, stick with it Wink

I remember posting on here that I needed velcro sheets and sticky pj's to stick DD in her bed with (!) A few days later when we just put her back every time she got out, she got the idea that she needed to stay in it!

Northernlurker · 25/09/2010 23:36

If you want to do it then go for it but don't feel you have to. I've kept all of mine in their cots till after three - in fact dd1 was 4 when her bed arrived for her birthday Grin She did have a big cot though that she could get out of very easily and safely.

piprabbit · 25/09/2010 23:37

When DS learnt to climb (flip?, tumble?) over the cot rail. At about 20 months.
He did it twice and I was at Ikea the next day - it's quite a thump to the floor from over a metre up.

LauraNorder · 25/09/2010 23:41

DD2 is 20 months and has just gone into a normal single bed with a bed rail and a stair gate at her door.

She's much earlier than DD1 who was about 2 and DS who was almost 3. I think she is just so desperate to be like her older brother and sister.

I have never used a junior bed. Good luck!

2nd birthday present for both of mine. DS got a little tykes car bed (from ebay, £80 bargain) he loved it so much he happily stayed in it when going to bed.
With DD we took the sides off her cot bed, sprayed the whole thing pink and put floaty princess curtains and fairy lights in it.
Both kids really LOVED their beds, and were more than happy to cosy up in there to go to bed. Make it an adventure to be in there, and they wont have a problem keeping them in bed.
