Wintering up a Bugaboo Bee

Mummagumma · 20/09/2010 11:45

DS needs his Bee cosified for the cold weather ahead, but DP and I can't agree what to do. DP wants to get a Bee footmuff, but I'm thinking something sheepskinny, if there's something out here that fits (liner and footmuff I guess?). DS had the Bugaboo Cocoon last winter when he was a newborn.

I know next to nothing about pushchair stuff - please someone give me some guidance!

www.SNUNKIE.CO.UK do made to measure custom footmuffs/liners/whatever you like in a huge range of fabrics for a fraction of the bugaboo price and they are lovely & very well made. Heres mine www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=5663579&l=7d2046d640&id=675580777

Wallaboo footmuff? Made from sheepskin. You can get them cheaper on Ebay though.

I've got a Snunkie footmuff too. Mine's here www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=203874&id=110105732343534&ref=fbx_album

It is reversible so the fabric part can sit on either side. Am currently using it as a liner. I love it!

Liz79 yours is really cute. As is your son.

oh yes thats a lovely one, was toying with that idea.

How does one fold a bee with the footmuff on? its long and drags on the floor when folded, going to get mucky :( and bee harness is PITA to keep removing it

LetsHaveAnotherOne · 21/09/2010 19:28

If you get the snunkie footmuff you should be able to zip off the top to fold the buggy with just the liner in place.
I've ordered mine ready for the cold weather! Grin
It's not really a pain undoing the harness once you get the hang of it (using a couple of teaspoon handles to release the white clips behind the seat).
I've ordered matching strap pads - they velcro on and are better than the original ones provided (as you can velcro off to wash regularly without undoing the harness).

how about one of the lodger bunkers? i'm getting a wrapper for new baby due in december, but seen the bunker in the shop and they looked really cosy and had a liner thing on the inside and all fleece on the outside.

:)

LetsHaveAnotherOne · 21/09/2010 21:47

The lodger bunkers are okay - but the problems I can forsee with using them on the bee or bee+ is that you cannot remove the top part (it's all one big wraparound thing) - and there's no way you could fold your bee with the lodger bunker in place!

The 2nd problem with the lodger bunker - is that they have a limited lifespan - as soon as your childs legs are too long to fit in it you will have to give up using it.

If you buy the boxed reversible SNUNKIE for the bugaboo bee - it has 4 way zips - meaning you can open the foot end to let an older childs feet poke through (they'll possibly have mucky shoes anyway by the time they're walking age) and the other advantage of it is that you can completely zip the top off (fold and squidge it into your change bag) and fold the buggy - without having to take the harness out of it. Wink

I have the footmuff and it folds no probs with it on, doesn't make it any bigger. DD is as snugasabuginarug in hers, so I would recommend. It'll break your fingernails getting the damn thing on and off though!

LetsHaveAnotherOne · 21/09/2010 22:08

No - use teaspoon handles pushed into the slots of the white clasps that hold the harness in place to gently ease them off - I saw it on a youtube video - no more broken nails - easy peasy! Smile

The bugaboo footmuff looks fab - I'm not sure how long it is - or if it'd fit my 2y old for long. It also looks as though the zip doesn't open at the foot end, to let longer legs poke through. Confused

Liz79 · 21/09/2010 22:47

The white clips are fine, its threading them through the gaps in a zig zag and getting it through the 'rung' bit above there. Is it not a bit fiddly to zip the top on/off often?

ruddynorah · 21/09/2010 22:52

i have the footmuff on mine. no problem with folding.

LetsHaveAnotherOne · 21/09/2010 23:20

I don't really have to fold mine very often - only the occasional bus journey - I would of course prefer a bugaboo footmuff if I was convinced it would fit my child (who is already 2y) for a while....so I've gone for a custom snunkie instead which I know will last until we're done with the pushchair (in about another 2y!) Wink
I'm sure the quality of the genuine product is fab - just our boy is tall - and wears shoes (as he walks a bit now) so if the bugaboo footmuff opened at the foot end it would be perfect.
Also I read the genuine bugaboo footmuff doesn't fasten onto the bee+ by anything other than the harness (older bee footmuffs for the 1st generation bee reputedly buttoned onto the seat unit where the hood does - which seemed a very good idea!)..does the latest bee+ footmuff not slip down the seat at all?
Snunkie are making mine with fastenings to stick onto the seat frame - not just fasten in by the harness.

We got the Bugaboo footmuff in the end - was browsing ebay and one came along, so I bid for it. I love it! And DS seems very comfortable in it.

trick to folding the bee with footmuff in place without getting it mucky - tuck the bottom of the footmuff up under the main part of the footmuff - lifts the bulk out of the way of the fold, and keeps the foot end out off the mucky floor.
