Double Buggy or no?

DS is due at the beginning of January and also have a DD who will be 33 months by then. She isn't lazy but I know she won't really be ready to give up her pushchair by then as she does like her naps.

I was wondering whether it's worth buying a double buggy or just slinging DS until he is about six months and then re-evaluate the situation.

We are dependent on public transport and need a solution that would be good for weekend trips away/trips to the park etc.

Anyone have any suggestions, I'm confused Confused

Hi, I'm in the sae boat!

DD will be 28 months when newbie is born and I know at 2.4yrs I shouldn't be looking for a £££ fancy double but I can't bring myself to try and push a crappy one as I have a bad back and walk for miles everyday!

Am Confused too!

Buggy and sling sounds ideal TBH, once you're through the winter months DD be older (obviously) will probably be happier to walk or hop on and off a buggy board.

IME double buggies are all heavy to push.
The more compact/cheap ones handle like boats.
I think in your situation I would go with the sling when you're up to it and pram + buggy board when you're not.

(I have been the proud owner of 5 different double buggies!)

Yeah, I'm quite small myself so was worrying about the weight of a double buggy. I think I'll just use a sling for the first six months and see how we go, hopefully he won't be that big a baby Wink.

Thanks for the help!

Do get a good sling, if you don't have one already. Using a BabyBjorn or such like will kill your back.

There's a sling topic on somewhere on MN...

My dd1 was 29 months when baby arrived, got a new nipper 360, am now selling it after only 3months! It kills my back lifting it in and car and need a single for lots places and although toddler has ridden in it a lot and napped I think it's becoming a lazy inducing habit! She can walk, has been handy this week when she's been poorly but still not essential, may get a maclaren twin triumph and a single 2009 bee or a baby jogger city elite single....can't choose! But prob could have done better with second hand double and spent on new single......you will find you need a single for specific occasions eg I need one for short trips using car in and out to toddler groups and dance class where double won't fit and I still need hands free sling free for baby, I get too hot n bothered with sling and my back is done in from the double buggy lifting and car seat carrying already! Also the bee would be way cooler than a huge double! Already got lots of what the heck you piscine that for looks in smaller locations, usually wen toddler walking or running away and I can't catch up as buggy won't fit through the gaps she does!

I love my Phil & Teds beyond words, but at 33 months even I'd go for sling+buggy+buggy board+micro scooter.

AngelaBobby · 07/09/2010 15:25

I agree completely. I've just bought a double but the gap is only 18months. At 3, I'd give up! Angela. p.s I've been obsessed with buggies for ages!!

mummyistheword · 07/09/2010 15:49

Crikey typos.....I mean pushing not piscine.....got all excited thinking what buggy to get next!

mummyistheword · 07/09/2010 15:58

Just thought of another issue.....when out with the double.....baby in it happy, fed, winded and asleep.....toddler needs toilet......mummy has to know all loos within five min radius that can accommodate huge double, fretful toddler doing wee dance jiggle and frazzled mummy picturing poor toddler wetting self and having no change clothes......all because of the double buggy! Arrrrrgh bugaboo here I come. By the way I have a bushbaby cocoon and baba sling both of which are excellent in buggy basket for odd time out and toddler needs nap in buggy.

Just to say that I have a 2.10 and a 3 month old and mostly just sling and make toddler walk! Very occasionally take 2.10 in pushchair and sling baby and even more rarely take pram for baby and make toddler help push. Have never felt the need for a double buggy. Would second the need for a good sling - have a calin bleu but will be getting out the didymos when babe is a bit older, can carry a toddler in that for hours!

BTW we walk everywhere under about a mile and live at the bottom of a huge hill, so it can be done!
