Side by side doubles and getting through doorways etc

I am finding my Tandem buggies too difficult to push now my kids are 17 months and 2.8

I have a side by side Mclauren which is easier to push but I do struggle to get it through certain doorways - mostly once I have shopping etc on it (I walk pretty much everywhere, including food shopping) and round the isles in the corner shop.

I am thinking about selling all my buggies, except a single stroller and using the money to get a decent side by side, probably the out and about nipper 360.

BUT I can't really afford it, so don't want to end up spending the money if I won't really get on with it.

Can anybody tell me about using a side by side a lot for 2 toddlers? And getting into shops, isles, disabled toilets, lifts etc?

Will it really be much easier than a tandem? I have loved my tandems until now but they both seemed to have suddenly got so heavy!

Another thing about a side by side is that they seem to have small shopping baskets?!

side-by-sides with air tyres are easier to push than tandems. the mountain buggy double urban is the narrowest i have found. i now have two and use one daily, i can get in the front door and internal doors goes through a door 73.8cm fine even though they are supposed to be 74cm wide. its ok with a difference in weight on either seat and you can pop two kiddyboards on the back. it goes anywhere off-road and is really smooth to push. its got a big basket but can sag after a year so i use one of those flexi chopping boards in the basket and i dont have a problem now. its also ok with loads of shopping hanging on the handle. the pre-2010 MBUDs are much better quality than the china built 2010 ones.
the nipper is wider than the mountain buggy and i have only seen great reviews about it and i know someone with 5 year old twins who stil uses hers and pushes it around fine so it must be good quality.

the nipper is really light compared to the mountain buggy

I last used a double buggy about six years ago, but there were lots of shops I couldn't get into and it was a bit of a pain. It was fantastic for our bank balance though as it was mainly boring big shops I could get into, rather than nice independent ones!

nipper 360 is 77cm and just fits through our front door, I haven't found many shops I can't get into and it swivels well so is very easy to manouver

I really wish I had bought one when I was pregnant with DD2. It just seems such a waste of money now when I won't use a double for much longer!
